Scenes 5 to 8

Scene 5 ~ The Three Hunters

The Two Towers Scene 5

The scene changes to Aragorn lying with his ear to a rock

ARGORN: Their pace has quickened.
They must have caught our scent.
LEGOLAS: (running up the hill, shouts to Gimli) Come on, Gimli!
GIMLI: (comes panting up the hill) Three days and nights pursuit.
No food. No rest. And no sign of our quarry, but what bare rock can tell.
Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, trailing behind, are seen running along the top of the mountains and hills
The scene changes to see Aragorn's hand picking up Pippin's fallen elven brooch
ARAGORN: Not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall.
LEGOLAS: (stops) They may yet be alive.
ARGORN: Less than a day ahead of us. Come.
LEGOLAS: Come, Gimli! We're gaining on them!
Gimli appears falling and rolling down the hill
GIMLI: I'm wasted on cross-country.
We Dwarves are natural sprinters.
Very dangerous over short distances.
They arrive at a brow of a hill looking down on the plains below
ARAGORN: Rohan. Home of the Horse-lords. There's something strange at work here. Some evil gives speed to these creatures. Sets its will against us.
Legolas runs ahead.  Aragorn shouts over to him
ARAGORN: Legolas! What do your Elf-eyes see?
LEGOLAS: The Uruks turn northeast. They are taking the Hobbits to lsengard.
ARAGORN: Saruman.

Scene 6 ~ The Burning of the Westfold

The Two Towers Scene 6

The scene changes to Isengard seen standing in a circle of smoking pits.  Saruman is inside, eyes closed, hand held over the palantir which is glowing with flames
SARUMAN VOICE OVER: The world is changing. Who now has the strength to stand against the armies of Isengard......and Mordor? To stand against the might of Sauron and Saruman......and the union of the two towers?
The camera pans over Barad-dûr and takes our eye up the tower until it reaches the eye at the top
SARUMAN VOICE OVER: Together, my Lord Sauron...... we shall rule this Middle-earth.
The trees of Isengard are being ripped down, and thrown into the pits.  Saruman is seen walking through watching the orcs feed the furnaces, molten metal being poured into moulds and helmets and weapons being made.
SARUMAN VOICE OVER : The Old World will burn in the fires of industry. The forests will fall. A new order will rise. We will drive the machine of war with the sword and the spear...... and the iron fists of the Orc. We have only to remove those who oppose us.
Saruman watches as yet another Uruk-hai is born from the ground.
SARUMAN: I want them armed and ready to march within two weeks!
ORC: But, my lord, there are too many! They cannot all be armed in time, we don't have the means.
SARUMAN: Build a dam, block the stream, work the furnaces night and day.
ORC: We don't have enough fuel to feed the fires.
SARUMAN: The Forest of Fangorn lies on our doorstep. Burn it.
ORC: Yes.
Back inside Isengard, Saruman is talking to a Wildman
WILDMAN: We will fight for you.
SARUMAN: Swear it.
The Wildman cuts his palm
WILDMAN: We will die for Saruman.
Saruman is outside now, surrounded by a group of Wildmen
SARUMAN: The Horse-Men took your lands. They drove your people into the hills to scratch a living off rocks.
WILDMAN: Murderers!
SARUMAN: Take back the lands they stole from you. Burn every village!
The Wildmen cheer and run off.
They are seen running into a Rohan village with flaming torches.

SARUMAN VOICE OVER: We have only to remove those who oppose us. It will begin in Rohan. Too long have these peasants stood against you. But no more.
A Rohan lady (Morwen) is seen saddling a horse and beckons to her children
MORWEN: Eothain! Eothain! You take your sister. You'll go faster with just two.
FREDA Papa says Eothain must not ride Garulf. He is too big for him.
Morwen lifts the children onto the horse
MORWEN: Listen to me. You must ride to Edoras and raise the alarm. Do you understand me?
EOTHAIN: Yes, Mama.
Freda starts to cry
FREDA: I don't want to leave. I don't want to go, Mama.
MORWEN: (holding Freda's face) Freda, I will find you there.
Morwen glances at the running people and sees the masses of Wildmen coming into the village
MORWEN: Quickly! (the children ride off) Go, child.
As the children look back they see the village being burnt and the villagers being attacked by Wildmen and Uruk-hai
SARUMAN VOICE OVER: Rohan, my lord......is ready to fall.

Scene 7 ~ Massacre at the Fords of Isen

The Two Towers Scene 7

Eomer is leading a group of Rohirrim through the fords at Isen.  They find a group of slain Rohan soldiers lying.
EOMER: Theodred. Find the king's son!
The Rohirrim dismount and being searching
ROHAN HORSEMAN: Mordor will pay for this
EOMER: These Orcs are not from Mordor.
Eomer turns the head of a dead orc and reveals the white hand of Saruman on his helmet
ROHAN HORSEMAN: My Lord Eomer, over here!
Eomer runs over
EOMER: He's alive.

Scene 8 ~ The Banishment of Eomer

The Two Towers Scene 8

The Rohirrim race back to Edoras.  Eomer is carrying Theodred in front of him.
Eowyn is looking out from the front of the Golden Hall, she rushes into a bed chamber where Eomer is kneeling next to Theodred on the bed

EOWYN: Theodred.
Theodred has a bad head wound.  Eomer gestures for Eowyn to look under the covers.  She sees the huge wound in his abdomen and closes her eyes.  They exchange sorrowful glances

Together they goto speak to King Theoden.  Theoden is sitting motionless in his chair, wizened and old

EOWYN: Your son is badly wounded, my lord.
EOMER: He was ambushed by Orcs. If we don't defend our country, Saruman will take it by force.
Theoden shows no reaction.  From behind him Grima appears
GRIMA: That is a lie. Saruman the White has ever been our friend and ally.
THEODEN: (mumbling quitely) Grima. Grima. (Grima kneels down next to him) Grima.
EOMER: Orcs are roaming freely across our lands. Unchecked. Unchallenged. Killing at will. Orcs bearing the White Hand of Saruman
Eomer drops a orc helmet and it rolls over showing the white hand of Saruman
GRIMA: Why do you lay these troubles on an already troubled mind? Can you not see? Your uncle is wearied by your malcontent......your warmongering.
EOMER: Warmongering? (grabbing Grima) How long is it since Saruman bought you? What was the promised price, Grima? When all the Men are dead, you will take your share of the treasure?
Grima glances over Eomer's shoulder as Eowyn is walking out of the Hall... Eomer follows his eyes and sees him looking at his sister. Eowyn pauses and exchanges glances with Grima then walks out frowning
EOMER: (squeezes Grima's face) Too long have you watched my sister.Too long have you haunted her steps.
Grima looks over Eomer's shoulders as two guards approach Eomer and pull him off
GRIMA: You see much, Eomer, son of Eomund.
Eomer struggles to free himself from the guards
GRIMA: Too much. You are banished forthwith from the kingdom of Rohan......and all its domains under pain of death.
EOMER: (is punched by the guards) You have no authority here. Your orders mean nothing.
GRIMA: This order does not come from me. It comes from the king. He signed it this morning.

Grima shows Eomer the manuscript banishes him from the Kingdom of Rohan
