Following the disaster in London . . .

East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency ( ICE ) " campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston.

The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency".

In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them.

It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do.

It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.

That is a really good idea. I am certainly going to use this in my mobile. I suggest everyone do it, too.

Wouldn't they contact someone off your phone book list anyway?

Yes but you could have a dozen numbers or more and which would be the right one.

ok this strikes me as a good idea and a bit pointless at the same time!
if its a really bad accident then the chances are that the phone is gonna get trashed as well as they arent particularly strong,
plus a lot of people already have contact details etc in their wallets anyways!

I always ahve my phone on me... and ........ MAYBE............ it WONT get trashed

Well, I already have "home" in my address book, which I've set as my I.C.E.1 anyway, but as Lessa said, most of us have hundreds of numbers on there, I know I do, how do they know who to contact? (admittedly "Home" is a pretty good indication that this is where people who know me most might live, but for all they know I could live alone!)

There's also loved ones, best friends, in my case my fiance, I'd want contacted if something happened to me... so I'd say this was an excellent idea!

I've put it into my phone anyway...

It's not as if it's going to take up much memory on the sim card...

It basically means in case of an emergency...not every single emergency will destroy your phone

It could be simply that you've fainted and they need to ask if there are any special treatments that you need after all.

Hello there

 My teenage son and I have done this, it proved to be an excellent idea as my son had a seizure whilst out in town and when the paramedics got to him they used the number and I was able to tell them what medication he took and what dose.
It was extremely helpful as he had lost his sos bracelet earlier in the week.
