Tolkien Info etc

We would like to build some sort of mini Encylopaedia here for Tolkien.

We would like to start with the basics...

Id be grateful therefore if you would like to say write about your favourite place in Middle Earth or your favourite character, or favourite "thing" etc.... if you could either IM it to me, or to Elbereth or Durin ...

and you will be credited for your work!

By everyone on the site contributing, we should be able to build something almost unique to the WWW

who is he  whered he come from..  how old is he  what did he do  whered he go to Any interesting little facts

lets see how much info we can get about him

and show me your fave pics of him, from the movies or artists..

ok lets see we know he is a maia (Olorin) in the service of Manwë and Varda also of Nienna and a counsellor to Imro.

It would seem he was there from the beginning. By the third age 1000 Sauron had become a big problem so Olorin was specifically appointed by Manwë to leave Valinor and Aman in order to aid in the quest against Sauron. In the mind of Varda he was not the third in importance but first and wisest.
He first met Cirdan at the Grey Havens and was given  the Red Ring, Narya, to aid him in in his quest against Sauron.

Also on that piont about Narya, Gandalf had great skill in manipulating fire to his will, this was probably due to his possession of Narya - the fire ring.

Two other little facts
Gandalf means Wand Elf (wrong because he is infact not an elf, but that is what the name means none the less)

also his prefared drink is Red Wine

Ok, so what can you tell me about Denethor  (dont know a whole lot about him, apart from the obvious )

Denethor married Finduilus (20yrs his junior), Imrahil's older sister. She died at just 37yrs old.
He became the ruling steward at the age of 54.

i think what we need is some proper research here.  i mean its good people coming here and helping like this but we need structure.

this is for the main site, with links here on the forum for people to use more easily if they need to.
so if someone wants to help then please IM Me, EG, or Elbereth and let us know your area of "expertise"

anything else we need help on we will then come back here and ask for help on filling in the gaps.
