i hav jus read all five books in a row and they are all rubbish compared to fotr except the hobbit of course lol!

Not only was there no rushing....but ,for the record,the council at Elrond is my favourite part,the one which allows everyone to go deeper in what concerns the true meaning of the book,that old boring stuff about friendship and sacrifice for what you believe in...that stuff that I love so much!

Even though that chapter is long, it still gives a lot more background, you get to meet the fellowship a little more...

Tolkien? Rubbish!

I have started reading all of the books. And have seen the films. And I love the Fellowship of The Ring. Its fantastic. Orignally Frodo was my favourite. And thought he was braver than any of the rest of the fellowship. But as all three came out, I think I loved Pippin and Merry the most. Being captured at the end of the first film, being brave.

Sam is also one of my great favourites...maybe the fellowship would have failed without his help.If I only think about how many times he prevented Frodo from putting on the ring,how many times he gave him the courage to go on even when he didn't have any hope left for himself...He's definitely one of my heroes.

Sam is a fanastic character. The role he takes to look after Frodo is so amazing. He's wonderful. The perfect friend you'd ever want. I wish I had a friend like that!

i used to hate anything to do with the LOTR now i watched all the movies just like a week ago i LOVE anything to do with it-i deserve a prize only jokin- but yeah last night i decided to start the fellowship of the ring anf to tell the truth its really hard to get into for me anyone got any advice on how to get me too keep reading!?

Yeah, skip the long descriptions, that did it for me.  

Plus I also skipped a lot of the songs too.  Just to get the story moving faster.

Once you have read it and got into the plot etc, then you can go and and read it again.  You will find then that you are more inclined to read all of the descriptions and can get clearer pictures in your mind.

But I would say (only guessing tho)  that having seen the films it would be easier to skip descriptions and put in the pictures from the films if you take my meaning.  

I read the books well before the films came out, so as I said, the last comment is only a theory of mine!   :-[

Why not try it, give it a go.
