I didnt like this one that much. It was a kind of boring. Maybe because I saw the movie first. I couldnt get into the stor. The whole getting to Bree took such a long time. It became interesting from the council o Elronmd. Maybe I should read it again to see what I think of it now :P

now...and to me it seemed to slow down at that point...all the getting to Bree and then on to Rivendell....that was just so exciting...

Lessa...you know I got that feeling too..glad it wasn't just me...sometimes my ideas are a little farfetched...but it was like since Frodo was meant to do this thing.....doors opened and closed when they were supposed to...like with Sam...not that they were already friends...but the made it because of him...I think that he was there for that very reason...and look at Merry and Pippin...Eowyn would never have been able to kill the witch-king if he (Merry) hadn't been there...

Has anyone ever felt that through many paths especially the ones that change our lives there seems to be a force guiding, or forces...help mates perhaps..sometimes life saving helpers be they human or unseen.

I have just finished this book for the second or third time again and every time I read it I seem to like it even more, my mum doesn't know how I can do it! When I first read it I got really bored in the Council of Elrond but everytime I read it I seem to like it even mroe because I learn a lot more about the story behind the Ring and other characters, the adventure only really starts at the end of the book to carry on in TTT so it's easier to read (Well I think anyway!)

I find it boring (sorry :( ) but I really want to read the LOTR books. Do you have any avice for me?  ??? Is there anything I coud do to make my reading easier?

Thank you! :)

I think the first or second time of reading, you find certain chapters a little difficult to read, I do remember finding the Council of Elrond, really "long", and I was interested in getting down to the action...

Patience is a virtue...because, I went on to really enjoy the whole trilogy, and I have read it over and over, almost every year since I first did.
Theres so much to learn, even now, i read them, there is something I missed the time before, or remember distantly.

I love reading the LOTR, because theres so much going on!

Lady A  know exactly what you mean. I have read lotr every year for over 20yrs and see something new every single time. Either it's something I missed or it's smething I see in a diferent way as I get older and experience more of the vagaries of life.

Was that "Lady A" me Lessa? If so just call me Ellie!

Every time I read this book I always seem to find something that I missed before, especially in the Council of Elrond chapter and Treebeard in TTT, and sometimes in the simplist chapters at the very beginning I find soemthing I over looked before, I have only read the books twice (I'm on TTT for the second time now) But I have already seen things I missed before the first time around and I am sure that I'll spot something new next time around aswell. LOTR is really the only book that I have read that's like that

I attempted reading The fellowship of the ring about 5 years ago but I couldn't get into it at all. I thought the first half of the book was very slow- introducing so many people and coming to terms with the many languages, creatures and landscapes Tolkien described to us.

However a few years later I read the whole book in one, a once you get past Bree and meet Strider you're gripped.
I found that I fully appreciated The Fellowship of the Ring all the more after reading it again. Although I suppose that is true  for many books!

The chapter The Council of Elrond thoroughly confused me the first time, and I confess that I may have scanned some of the bits. The talk of "Isildur's bane" and Boromir's part in the story confused me utterly although it all became clear in later readings. ;) :)
