There is talk that New Line may actually go back to the drawing board, and create its own story set in a time either between The Hobbit & Lotr, as a prequel or a sequel that follows on from RoTK, should they not be able to secure the rights to The Hobbit.

Personally Im not sure if this is such a good idea. Anyway there is an article about this, and the complex rights issue over a TORn which can be found here: http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/8/1077156370

that was a good read.  really cleared things up for me, thanks Morgul.

i check their archives once in a while but i havent read much on this tolkien and rights thing lately.

lets all hope it woks out.  and think, we could be in for more excitement yet ;D

though i wouldnt want them to carry on from the fourth age as it would not be as tolkien intended.  as intrigued as i am about Eldarion and the reunited kingdom and Valinor ;D ;D ;D

Durin - There has been on argument between her and an older member about a topic that was started a few days ago.  Apparently it was copying from a previous topic.  The point is that it has been blown out of proportion, as it seems to have spread to other topics.

Can we please just forget about that argument about that topic now Lizzy?

Thinking about they could probably pull it off, if they followed on from LoTR.. although its not an actual book.. they could follow most of the history from the appendices, and it would be no worse than what they actually did to the LoTR story IMHO, the story of the Shire, following Merry & Pippin, the story of Arwen & Aragorn etc, most of it is already essentially written in print. They could go right upto the point where Sam and or Legolass & Gimli set sail over the sea.

Would be kinda nice to see all that history be told

Yep true, but they could use a bit of artistic licence.. much the same as they did with the recent movies.
might not be as action packed.. due to the lack of major wars.. but there were still a few skirmishes and stuff for a while, with the remenants of the dark forces.. perhaps enough to keep the blood thirsty fans happy.. besides its only one film, not a trilogy so it doesnt have to be as in depth. :)

It would be good to see how they would show the follow up, although i'm not sure  if alot of Tolkien fans would be happy, you know? Because they would be trying to create something in Tolkien's world that he never really wrote about in detail. I personally, think it would be great to watch.

A follow up!  Sounds TOO strange to me.... hope they dont!  Its like theyre trying to cash in on the ME thing... without really caring about whether it would work or make sense ::)

Just read this....

Q&A with Peter Jackson - by someone who was there:
'I was privileged enough to attend a showing of RoTK at the Director's Guild, where Peter Jackson attended a Q&A session. I met him afterwards, and had time to ask him only ONE question. Here's what I chose: "Would Andy Serkis and Hugo Weaving also be willing to return to their roles for THE HOBBIT?" Jackson's answer was "Oh, I guess they would...(after thinking)...I'm SURE they would."'
(Andy Serkis played Gollum, Hugo Weaving Elrond)

I bet, Ian M, Ian H, Andy and Hugo would all come back for the Hobbit. I wonder who they would get to play all those dwarves! LOL!

I don't know. Sir Ian Holm looks a bit old to play Bilbo in the Hobbit in my opinion.

They could make him look younger. They did it at the start of FOTR. I reckon they could pull it off! :)
