'The trees and the ents' said Treebeard. 'I do not understand all that goes on myself, so i cannot explain it to you. Some of us are still true Entsand lively enough in our fashion, but many are growing sleepy, going tree-ish, you might say."

I don't think the hobbit is nearly as complicated as LOTR. I still think they should make it as an animated film. ;D

I imagine the Tolkien society are considering offers - Newline won't be the only film company looking to cash in on the success of LOTR. They might palm us off with it being delayed over red tape but chances are its about money. 8)

I'm a hopeless Tolkien freak and proud!

I don't. See, I was introduced to LOTR through the films. Actually, through my pastor's son, who told my brother...anyway. But they definitely shouldn't try another go with The Hobbit as an animated film. The last time they did that, it was messed up.

"God is the Lord, of angels, and of men-and of elves."-J.R.R. Tolkien

And I shall be telling this with a sigh
somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood and I,
I took the road less traveled by
And that has made all the difference.

To the class of 2005-Rock On!

eah i know. I mean i would just like to read the hobbit and use my imagination as to what the characters look like and stuff. I can read the LOTR books now without hearing the actors voices and seeing theyre faces.I mean i LOVE the movies passionately but still....

The Hobbit is a much quieter book, much lighter and I think it would have to be marketed very carefully. You really can't compare it to LOTR, it's a very different kind of story and I think that's where the trouble lies. My concern is that in an effort to cash in on the LOTR success, they would feel the temptation to make it a darker story and that would just be wrong. :(

Exactly!
The Hobbit is really more of a children's fairy tale... there's not as much depth as LOTR and like you said PJ may try and make it deeper and darker so as the LOTR movie fans who haven't read the books will not be disapointed in the prequel. :-\

I know what you mean T_E...
I can stll kind of read through LOTR using my imagination but there's always that little bit of the films in there...
And now there's a huge number of fans who just love LOTR for the movies the killing and the battles. Take the TTT playstation game for example it's just from one fight to the next. No break just fight fight and kill. But we know there's so much moe to it... :-\

Death is just another path, one that we all must take.

but dont u think that it would be nice if this world that is being overtaken by media could for once, just this once, pick up a book and read the background of LOTR???

in LOTR we had Arwen sticking her nose everywhere....and in the Hobbit we will have LEGOLAS as part of the dwarven company sticking his nose everywhere eh? :o??? please nooooooooooooo!

Finally! I've found someone else who hates Legolas (sorry, all you Legolas fans, but I just don't like him!)

And, yes, the hobbit is a great book, but it would also make a great film!

I hadnt thought about it like that. Perhaps people who hadnt read the books wouldnt understand they are so different.

Time slowed, reality bent, on and on the eggman went

Hey," said Shadow."Huginn or Muninn, or whoever you are. The bird turned, head tipped, suspiciously, on one side, and it stared at him with bright eyes "Say neverermore" said Shadow. "F**k you," said the raven. It said nothing else as they went through the woodland together.
