Gandalf didn't use his magic more because it was their adventure, he said so in the book! Only when they could do nothing else did he use his magic.

If its one thing i like about the books, its the way they take you soo far away but keep you in reality

I agree. Except he had much more significance than gollum in my opinion though cause he was really their friend!  |

Yes.I agree with Estel.In LORT Gandal is really thir friend.And in the hobbit ofcourse.
I wonder why Gandalf seemed so unpatient with Bilbo when he is supposed to eb the most patient maiar

hmm, if it wern't for gollum the ring won'tve been destryed yet if it wern't for gandalf in part then frodo wouldn't have done it in the first place, on the same lines if it wern't for gandalf Bilbo wont have got the ring in the first place...  |

Yes I agree.Its kind of compliacted isnt it?I think that if it wasnt for Gandalf none of this was going to happen.Bilbo was just going to spent the erst of his life sitting quietly in his hobbit hole.

I think....to break it down me peeps...that the quest, however interesting  would have failed if either Gandalf and Gollum werent there. They are both vital, therefore they cannot be pitted against each other. lol |

I think Gandalf plays a hugely significant part in the books. It's all his doing, which made Bilbo go on the adventure, and then Gandalf sent Frodo away with the ring, i mean obviously he would have been in danger so he had to go, but you, Gandalf's a bit of a trouble maker if you ask me!
Anyway, yes i think we should move onto the third chapter!

I'm not so up-to-date with the hobbit at the mo, but i'm reading at the mo, and have been VERY busy, so i'll hopefully get past chapter 3 tonight! I have lots of time tonight to sit down and read!
