Reading THE STAND by Stephen King. It´s the uncut version of the one published in 1978.
It is really gripping, I must say. I am a huge fan of King, and when I read on the blurb that it was reputed to be his best I bought it at the drop opf a hat ;D
But I do warn, that in my opinion it is not King´s best novel. The first 50 or so pages tend to drag on with no real purpose other than building the key characters, which is a little tedious at times.
But after those bits, typical Stephen King genius seeps through and I´m engrossed!
It really is original, despite the overall base of the plot being a little clichéd.

I would reccommend it to any horror or King fan. I´m on the 672nd page, out of 1142 :o ;D :P

While I´m here, has anyone read "Tommyknockers" here? :-\ I´ve been wanting to read it for quite some time but first I´d like to have overview of it ;)

I've read the Stand too and thought it was an excellent book ;) I've read Tommyknockers but I wasn't that knocked out by it to be honest...his best has to be Pet Semetary in my opinion :)

Just finished Forsyte Saga volume 1 and starting on 'The Bad Mother's Handbook' which my hubby got me for Mother's day

A light little book called "The Pirates in an adventure with Scientists" by Gideon Defoe.

Bit like George McDonald Frasers "Pyrates" thinking about it.

I am now reading 'to kill a mockingbird' by Harper Lee again, but this time I am taking out useful quotes and sticking them up in random places around my house to try and remember them for my english lit exam! I do like the book so it makes it easier, if I despised the book, I would probably fail the exam.

Runt: What's the color of love, Pig?
Pig: What sort of love, love?
Runt: Don't know. But you know the way things, they got a color. I wonder what the color of love is.
Pig: Jesus, Runt. You could read a thousand think books and never know the answer to that quiz.
Runt: It's be a good one to know, ah?
Pig: It'd be brilliant, Runt. It's around here somewhere.

The Fellowship of the Ring!

"God is the Lord, of angels, and of men-and of elves."-J.R.R. Tolkien

And I shall be telling this with a sigh
somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood and I,
I took the road less traveled by
And that has made all the difference.

Has anyone read a book called Obernewtyn? I've just finished reading it and I really liked it!

I am the Patroness of Intellectual Activities, the Mistress of Strategy, protector of Athens. Everything turns into nothing where there is no wisdom. Be wise, give me the golden apple, and you shall have all--for I am Athene, Goddess of Wisdom.

Oh, that's a good book, much better than the movie, the ending isn't nearly as tidy but tidy endings are overrated. ::)

Just finished 'The Bad Mother's Handbook' by Kate Long. The title doesn't do this book justice, I expected a light hearted look at motherhood and instead found a story woven with issues about teenage pregnancy, Senile dementia, abuse and adoption. It's both funny and moving...a little gem.

at the moment I'm reading "The Vampire Lestat" by Anne Rice. I've read it before, but really felt like refreshing my memory.

I love the Vampire Chronicles - have you reas all the others, too?
It is just such a pity that they end on such a strange note (Blood Canticle).
