perhaps it's because the three groups are dealt with separately so whilst reading the first part you don't know what the other groups are doing.

It was abit boring so I just watched the film instead

That's a shame, because the film version it nothing like the book.

I know it isn't, and I'm really annoyed that I've given up but it was just the whole actually finding time to sit down and reading it.

When you start reading The Lord of the Rings it can seem daunting when you're thinking it's 1200 pages plus the Appendices at over half a million words with The Hobbit, The Silmarillion and others to go along side this seminal and famous work.

Just read for half an hour everyday before you go to bed and you'll get through it quicker than you think. Forget about the length of it and just enjoy the story. A time will come when you'll think that in actual fact the book is far too short!

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us
