Not sure if this has been posted or not but:

'Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have mended their strained relationship. The two were bitterly and publicly fighting over profits from the Lord of the Rings franchise.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Jackson would produce The Hobbit and its sequel, both prequels to the Rings mythology.

Principal photography is expected to begin in 2009 - with films being staggered for a release in 2010 and 2011.

The movies will be shot simultaneously.'

I have to say I'm not sure it is, actually. I am reserved about joining the "isn't this wonderful" camp and I am more sceptical about what these films will actually be. Mainly, The Hobbit is not two films, and most reports talk about "The Hobbit and its sequel" and I am worried that they're going to invent whole stories for film. Furthermore, there may also be an irritating desire to place certain people in The Hobbit who didn't necessarily play much of a role in the book, e.g. Legolas, Gimli, Galadriel, Aragorn, Saruman, the Nazgul, etc.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us

Well I for one can't wait. The book was nowhere near as intricate or immense as LOTR but I enjoyed it nevertheless. I know some people don't take kindly to tinkering with plots and characters but I'd rather have the opportunity to see what PJ does with it. Wonder who they'll get to play Bilbo?
Erm...actually, I didn't know there was a sequel to 'The Hobbit' other than LOTR  ??? I'm sure you'll enlighten me Lessa :P
