Title: Time for the Genre question again.....
Post by: Edge on October 16, 2006, 09:05:33 PM
1. Pop/pop-RnB/pop-rock    (Examples; Girls Aloud/Destinys Child/Busted.)

2. Dance/Trance/Techno     (Examples; Ministry of Sound.)

3. Country/Western     (Examples; Johnny Cash/Willie Nelson.)

4. Nu-Rock (Examples; Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Evanescance.)

[NB: I will NEVER refer to it as 'Nu-Metal' as the term is inaccurate.....]

5. PROPER Rock (Examples; AC DC, Guns and Roses, Queen.)

6.  Studenty Alternative (The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Lily Allen, all that kind of thing.....)

7. Classical (Mozart, Film Scores, that sort of thing.....)

8. Heavy Metal (or sub-genres)   (Examples; Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Emporer, Morbid Angel, Amon Amarth, Iced Earth, Napalm Death, Bloodbath and any other genre I've missed.....)

9. Blues (Hendrix, Clapton, BB King, T-Bone Walker.)

10. Jazz (Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, that sort of thing)

Mine is Heavy Metal, reasons are obviously because of the way the music I listen to takes a great amount of skill to play, a good amount of technical ability and innovation as well.....it makes me happy, it makes me feel good, I love it when people tell a co-herent story through song- metal tends to have that in abundance it tends to have a lot more epic feel to it than a lot of music just short of Classical, Blues and Jazz.....

In short, I think it's the greatest form of entertainment in music today, and that'll never change.

Your turn ladies and germs..... :P

What's your favourite music style, and why?  8)

None of the above :)

My favourite genre is Ska in its many forms

Trad Ska like Toots and the Maytals, Prince Buster
2-Tone ska like The specials, Madness, The Selecter
3rd Wave like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Reel Big Fish, Suburban Legends

The reason I like ska is just because of its upbeat nature, they can sing about the most depressing things on the planet but because of the upstrokes + Horns its still quite a upbeat song
Stuff like metal i can listen to in small quantities before I get bored (its all too samey for my liking) Ska however has such a large range of sounds etc that I never get bored of it

People always say how technically proficient metal players are but tbh I cant see it anyone can learn to play an instrument fast, I could get upto the speed of Dragonforce if I spent long enough practicing however music like Ska actually needs really good timing and great technique (Ska horn players are among the best in the world)
This is the reason that I have said I will never play in a metal band as its just so unfulfilling as a bass player

I could go on forever but I wont as people will get bored :D

I don't really have a favourite, though it would probably be 'Nu-rock'... or 'Heavy Metal'

Mainly because I grew up with my brothers sitting me on their lap at the age of four with them going 'Listen to this! Listen to this!' and playing Metallica and stuff like that :8o I grew up listening to stuff nobody in my class had heard of ::)

It's become the only type of music that I like, so if my friends try and play me something like Girls Aloud, I have to wonder how they can stand to listen to that crap

One strange thing, is because of the sitting me on the knee and playing me music which is now considered 'Oh, this is a classic!' I'm embarrassed to be able to sing a long to them all, know all the words, and know who sang it... my friends look at me as if I'm a freak ::) :P

My families quite musical so I find totally random songs on my ipod every so often. Last week I found a reeeeeally sad song by Bernard Fanning... which I have successfully forgotten the name to.

Hehe I was never allowed to listen to pop!

OMG! We're doing Reggae and ska and mento and rock steady and R&B in Music at the moment and it is our teachers favourite type of music so he SINGS to it and it's so annoying 'cos he goes on and on and onn... ::) We're planning to switch one of his CDs with Slipknot or something :P

Meh I just dont find it interesting I cant listen to more than 2/3 Metallica/ Dragonforce/ Maiden songs at a time
However I could happily listen to a whole album or two in a row from a band like the Suburban Legends etc

I disagree with the whole 'anyone can play an instrument fast' idea, because much of what speed metal bands like Dragonforce do is sharp, articulate and accurate to the letter pickwork, surgical tapping and a number of different techniques that are performed to a degree of accuracy I've rarely seen in any musical form.

I personally think unless you've an infinite amount of time on your hands, no life, or else are at school and have x amount of free time; then finding the time and tutilage to get up to that kind of accuracy, let alone speed which is less important would be very hard indeed. Speed is not the important factor in guitar by a long shot- if you haven't got the picking frequency and accuracy to be able to play your music in time, you've got nothing.

Really honestly speaking, examples of huge picking accuracy would have to be Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhodes, Eddie Van Halen, Alexi Laiho, BB King (Slow at times, but very accurate) John Petrucci, and maybe let's say the likes of even Malmsteen and Michael Angelo Batio.....the former two playing at lightning speed while being as accurate as Legolas at an Orc shooting contest!  :P (Dispite their lack of songwriting ability.)

People take the p-i-s-s out of DF for playing fast- I'd ask those people to look at how accurate, how in-time and how well articulated that playing is, rather than picking up on the speed issue.

I will never be that speed, and I'm pretty sure my accuracy will never be as clinical, and I've been practising guitar for well over a year and a half.....it'll take me a long time to be even at a slow but accurate Iron Maiden standard.

Angelus, cool down man, it's not everything to everyone.  ::)

By the way, I apologise that Ska and Punk isn't up there everyone- please feel free to put it down if necessary.....I knew something was missing.  :)

Title: Re: Time for the Genre question again.....
Post by: xthepoison__ on October 21, 2006, 09:11:24 PM
Man this is a hard one as I love many different genres of music.
And also I kinda get pyschological as well when it comes to this kind of
topic so bare with me lol.

I love Heavy Metal music very much. I love bands like Dragonforce, Slayer, Iron Maiden,
Metallica, Motorhead etc as their music is so interesting and how technical they sound and
how well they play the guitars and drums etc. Listening to metal music I feel helps me release
all the anger and frustrations that I have or ever had.

I also love Punk music too. I love bands such as Sex Pistols, Anti Flag, Agnostic Front etc.
I like Punk music because of the music but I think it's mostly because of the whole attitude
and their views on the world and life in general and I share the same views as some punk bands.

I also like Hardcore/Screamo music as well. Yes some of you may think that it's like emo music
but it is very different to emo music and the emo lifestyle in my opinion. I'm still learning a great
deal about this particular genre of music so do bare with me lol. Hardcore/Screamo bands like
As I Lay Dying, From First to Last, Underoath, Norma Jean etc are truly amazing bands.
I love Hardcore/Screamo music because of the vocals (they scream lol) and listening to this kind
of music helps me get rid of all the anger, frustration and pain that I have. The music and how
technical it is is another thing that makes me interested in this genre. I'd say Hardcore bands
have a rather "punk" attitude too and I can relate to Hardcore/Screamo music very much.

Nu-Rock and Emo music is a huge guilty pleasure of mine. I will admit it.
Country and Western music is another guilty pleasure and so is Studenty Alternative too.

I cannot stand Pop/Rap/RnB/Dance/Happy Hardcore/Drum and Bass music.
It doesn't appeal to me whatsoever. Happy Hardcore as well as Drum and Bass music
should not be considered music in my opinion. It's just noise and it gives me severe migraines.
Happy Hardcore is just disgusting, the vocals are awful, I'm still to this day guessing whether
they've got a hamster high on helium singing the vocals or something else.
Rap is another horrible genre, talking about how cars are cool as well as shooting people
and calling us females "hos"..that is not cool. And Pop, well that's just cheesy.

Ok, enough from me now lol.

Well...Well I like Oasis...and I like Take that's new song (SHUT UP!!!!) and the Hoff obviously LOL ahh JUMP INTO MY CAAAAR     Think the Hoff has a category of his own it is...the so cheesy it shouldn't be a singer category

I love country and western..Love ma Tim Mcgraw and my John Williamson...TRUE BLUEEEEEEE  ::)
Love a bit of my Westlife...
hate a bit of Evenescence and My chemical romance..what a load of bollocks..
I like my Lordy :D
erm who else do I hate let me think yes Fall out boy...bollocks!!!!!
Like a bit of robbie Williams...bit of the sugababes...
a teeny bit of the daniel bedingfield...
Love a bit of Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams...
Like a bit of Meatloaf and Queen

Oh dear...genres...*gets scared*

Im never quite sure what to choose. If anyone asks me, I always say 'alternative'. (yes...I know..quite a vague answer...)

I really dont believe that I do actually listen to one genre of music. I listen to older stuff like The Beatles, America, The Beach Boys, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison and The Doors. I also love classical music  - Beethoven and Yann Tiersen being my favourites.

But im quite happy to listen to odd 90's type stuff, the wierd electronic-ish pop (I guess you could call it that...) like Ladytron and Daft Punk and a more modern band in that kind of style called Metric. And still with the 90's thing I love Radiohead, Hole, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Pixies. (and im a slight obsessive when it comes to Thom Yorke and Frank Black's solo stuff.)

Gah. And now and then I listen to punk-ish music, well I wouldn't call it all punk (some of it is this new thing they call 'screamo'.) But just to try and keep things simpler i'll stick it all in here - The Distillers, Billy Talent, The Blood Brothers, Death From Above 1979, Amen, Alkaline Trio, Biffy Clyro, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Long Blondes.

And bands which are perhaps not part of any genre! - like The Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros, The Mars Volta, The Dresden Dolls, Aqualung, A Perfect Circle and Bright Eyes. Oh, and occasionally I just turn into a freak sit in a darkened room listening to Nine Inch Nails, Tool and Aphex Twin on repeat. But the less said about that the better...

So...that was probably a waste of time writing all that, as I still dont have a bloody clue what genre of music I listen to...

Hmmm this is hard to answer because personally I like a mix.  I love the old rock bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.... after all they are just CLASS!

But there again I also like Linkin Park, System of a Down, Rammstein and NIN!  so...... like I said, I consider them all just heavy rock.... as in old and new if you see what I mean?
Title: Re: Time for the Genre question again.....
Post by: Ħoney In The Sunshine on October 25, 2006, 04:40:19 PM
Well I don't know that I can just stick with one genre either...I like a lot of different music. I'll list a few if thats ok:

Placebo
Jack Off Jill
Scarling
Foo Fighters
Darling Violetta
A Perfect Circle
Tool
Queens of the Stone Age
Portishead
Magic Dirt

The list could go on forever and ever. In the poll I voted alternative, it's probably the closest to any of the genres...

The thing that makes me laugh with genres is that there is such variation with what genre people put bands in,
One of my friends posted one of these myspace bulletins where you put a cross next to the bands you like and that makes you a certain 'genre' She said that none of the bands in the emo category were emo but IMO almost all of them were
[ ] Alkaline Trio
[ ] At the Drive In
[ ] Dashboard Confessional
[ ] From first to last
[ ] Further seems forever
[ ] The get up Kids
[ ] Jawbreaker
[ ] Jimmy eat world
[ ] The Juliana Theory
[ ] The Promise Ring
[ ] Saves the day
[ ] Something Corporate
[ ] The Starting line
[ ] Sunny Day Real Estate
[ ] Hidden in Plain View
[ ] Thursday

Thats the list of bands and in my opinion the only band in there that isnt is Thursday as I see them more as a progressive band like Coheed and Cambria, Dredg, The Mars volta

I have noticed this more in Emo and Metal music than anything else, I regularly see arguments of whether Bullet For My Valentine are Emo or Metal and the same with Trivium, Metal fans seem to be the most judgemental as if a band shows slight emo tendecies or influences then they instantly dismissed from the genre

Had I really known what the diff. genres represented according to him, I would've voted differently..

I voted "Proper Rock"..  But after reading the first post and seeing what is considered "Nu-Rock" I would've voted for that one..
Title: Re: Time for the Genre question again.....
Post by: Edge on October 26, 2006, 12:35:49 PM
Proper Rock music is very much different to the new stuff- for example, the likes of AC/DC, Guns and Roses and so on sound quite vastly different to Linkin Park, or Godsmack, or bands of that ilk.....they need normally to be separated so that people don't have the mass confusion  that it's one big bubble called rock.....there's many different forms, shapes, sounds and types to rock, and not all are in the classic rock style.

(On the subject of Trivium; we tend to be that supposed 'overly-judgemental' thing because in the most part, Trivium are a band formed of contrived elements of the most popular metal.....they have literally lifted and copied Metallica, Slayer (on the new album's solo playing) and Iron Maiden especially in such a way that it adds nothing new, nothing exciting, and nothing fun to the mix; what it does add however is masss frustration at how a band with talented instrument players can't seem to write a lasting, impressionable, decent song.....they tend to write terrible lyrics (Not even in the good way!) they have guitar solos and bridges that shouldn't be where they are in the songs, and of course in the old days that terrible post-Phil Anselmo shout that takes the complete wee wee out Pantera especially. It tends to be made up en-masse of (especially now) James Hetfield's vocals, Iron Maiden's general basics and Slayer's solo tone.....what I wouldn't mind is if they used this seemingly good combination constructively, and made awesome music, which you'd expect with the elements they have.....but instead they make sub-par music, that gets forced down our throats because Kerrap and (Rusted) Hammer push them there. In my opinion Trivium are ousted from the metal community as a whole because of the senseless shoving of the band down our throats, because of their lack of songwriting ability (I'm not talking just lyrics here) and most of all because of the softcore, Nu-M....erm....'rock' way the band's music comes across.)

(PPS: I personally hate Bullet because IMO they're a bland, boring band with some of the worst vocals, lyrics and songs I've ever heard.....nuff said. Thankfully though, I can ignore them, they're not quite big enough as to be shoved into my face at the mo, so I'm happy enough just ignoring their existance.....I wish Trivium were the same case in that respect.)

(PPPPPPPPS: Whoever changed the poll and added Punk and Ska, I thank you, you're a legend!  8) :D)

Title: Re: Time for the Genre question again.....

I would certainly agree that there are different kinds of rock..  I wasn't arguing that..  :-\

I was just saying that I didn't understand your variations of rock as you listed them or even as you defined them..  But I s'pose I should've looked to see what exactly the first post said before I voted away without really reading..  ::)

Is there somewhere that you derived your definitions from or is that just your own interpretation of the different genres of music?  And it's not a criticism, just a question..  ;)  :P  :)

I would say that their new stuff is, their real old stuff (private eye etc) was actually Punk and was pretty good, but stuff like Time to waste and Mercy me for me would fit into the emo genre, add that to the fact that like greenday they have started wearing makeup etc I would call them an Emo band

Make-up doesn't make them Emo, lol, thats a stupid thing to say.  And their music is miles away from Emo, the new album is mellow-er than their old stuff, but it's not even close to Emo, it's just punky metal.  If you listen to the lyrics, it's not 'EMO-tional' at all, hardly!!

Title: Re: Time for the Genre question again.....
Post by: Edge on October 27, 2006, 03:49:18 AM
Yeah, it's my own interpretation, but I'd like to think it's an understandable one given the massive scale that Rock has, the basis was on the fact that most other polls allow for sweeping generalisations in genre- for example, there's nothing similar between Queen and Limp Bizkit whatsoever, but in some polls they would be lumped in together in the same poll without much reason other than the fact that it was convenient for the poll starter at the time.  ;)

Makeup does not make an emo band.....Marylin Manson is far from Emo.....lemme tell you.  ;D :P ::)

(.....however it tends to me to be characterised with whiney singing and falsely overdone lyrics and titles that try to add an aura of mystery and enigma to what is otherwise a boring and bland experience.....

PS: That last passage was edited by someone..... >()

I am a massive fan of Alkaline Trio, and I know all of their lyrics.  You take one song, to prove it?  The entire 'Time to Waste' album is far from emo.  The lyrics arent emotional at all, if you read them - and UNDERSTAND them - they usually take the p!ss, or they're being weird and odd and strange.

Besides, they can't be Emo as they're good, so ...

There We Are Then!

Eep! How can I chose? I like loads of stuff! =].
Let's see. I'm more of an 'indie' kid as such, I love bands like Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, The Maccabees, Maximo Park, The Kooks, Morrissey, Placebo, Blur, The Gorillaz, Ordinary Boys, Babyshambles, Franz Ferdinand, Kubichek!, Field Music, The Young Knives, We Are Scientists. My favourite band in the whole world being The Futureheads.
However, I also like: Muse, System of a Down, Reel Big Fish, Sublime, Funeral for a Friend, Taking Back Sunday, Panic! At the Disco, Men Women & Children, InMe, James Morrison, Michael Bublé, Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits, Chris Rea..I don't know. I like Indie, I like Rock, I like Britpop, Thrash, Alt, Punk, Classical, Ska..All of them really?

I guess if I really had to chose then I'll have to click "Studenty Alternative", since I suppose that is the definition of "Indie" ?

I'm into a lot, minus cheesy pop, hardhouse, dance, trance, r n b, etc. I'm not really into 'heavy metal' as such...I've tried to like it but it just doesn't excite me.
Title: Re: Time for the Genre question again.....

I guess i had to say heavy metal, but that's because more genres could be included under that category. Proper rock is also a good alternative... The thing is, I'm still a child of the nineties, and I still enjoy grunge the best, my favourite being Nirvana (obviously). But I don't mind, and actually I listen to a lot of System of a Down, Saliva, In Flames etc, but also to Muse, Dead Can Dance, Johnny Hollow and the likes.
So yeah. a hibrid :P

Well, i sat there and debated for a while on what i really like most as i'm a bit of a mixture of things, but i guess my true loyalty lies with Country Music. I'm very fond of alot of country music, from Keith Urban, Little Big Town, The Wreckers, Billy Ray Cyrus, Poverty Neck Hillbillies, Rascal Flatts, Sara Evans, Rodney Atkins.. i guess i could go on and on and on naming artists in that area.

But to counteract it, i'm pretty much found of people from other areas too, Bryan Adams, Jon Bon Jovi and Goo Goo Dolls just to name a few! but yea i'm jabbering now, i've chosen country music..

OK first of all, I would like to thank Edge for telling everyone exactly what
Trivium are about and I totally agree with everything you say about them.
And oh my gosh, the "there we are then" got mentioned..sorry that made me
smile cos I say that like all the time haha.

Anywho, back on topic. Can I ask who said that Alkaline Trio are emo?
Seriously. Are you kidding me? They are not emo. Their older material is
definitely punk, it's obvious. Their newer stuff I will admit is mellow but
it's damn good and it's more rock than emo IMO.

I'm afraid to say that Heavy Metal/Thrash Metal/Death metal whatever you wanna call it has to be the most popular of all really. Favourite bands of mine are Chimaira, God Forbid, Slayer, Satyricon, Pantera, Children of Bodom etc etc.

It is, it's just being called "studenty alternative" :P

Indie's probably one of my favourites too, along with metal (although I don't like all that screaming stuff.. I like Iron Maiden, Nightwish, Within Temptation.. That kind of thing :P) and classic rock (or proper rock as you called it)

I like the screaming stuff, sometimes.  "Screamo"  xD

Whoever mentioned J-Rock, I officially like you very much lol.
J-Rock, yes rather under-rated and all that but it is really amazing.
I've recently got into a lot of Industrial music. Bands like:

That's a hard one, I love pretty much anything from heavy metal to dance really. Aslong as it's got a good beat I like it. I'd say either "proper rock" (as you've said) or heavy metal would be my overall most listened to genre though. Or maybe ska, you can't beat ska! I like the smaller lesser known ska groups though, local bands for example.

I could only vote for one, so i went with heavy metal. I like rock as well, and alternative, and classical too, and loads of other stuff. So you couldnt possibly put my tastes down to one genre.

Sorry to burst your bubble there but I hate Ska.
I just find it really bland and boring.
I also hate Indie or "studenty alternative" music as well.

Genres for me are:
Heavy Metal
Classic Rock
J-Rock
Industrial
Metalcore
Hardcore Punk
Psychobilly
Rockabilly
Grindcore
Death Metal
Black Metal

^^ They are the best genres IMHO.

No, they're not the best genres, they're the genres you like, there's a difference. :)

Seriously, if I was stood on a cliff and somebody started playing My Chemical Romance, NOTHING would stop me taking that jump! :P

They were OKAY until they got commercialised into the whole 'Oh look at me I'm EMO!' thing ::)

Yeah I totally agree Ear. My Chem suck.
Their album before "Three Cheers to sweet revenge" was rather interesting but nah, not my cup of tea.
And haha to those daft comments after my post. Not my fault if you don't like what I have to say, not my problem.  :D

genres are stupid, they lead to people getting labelled which is also stupid. i likes what i likes and dont like what i dont like. yeeeeeah. i find it hard to put some music into genres anyway...so i pretty much listen to anything.  ::)

I've got to disagree with that last statement.....

Music is catagorised into genres because each genre sounds different, are composed in their own ways and not to mention the fact that genres help to make it easier for people to sift through the many thousand songs released a year....

People are labelled unconciously in our own minds anyway, music itself isn't the cause of that- the cause of that problem is us being human and conversely judging people by design and first impression rather than some random perception of what's beneath the appearance. We're not mindreaders- we as animals need some form of identification for strange people, that's what it's in our nature to do, it's our instinct when it comes to strangers. Unfortunately for idealists and to be honest people in general, that's the way we are.....no matter how many times (and I've tried.) we try to run away from it. The only thing we can do as individuals on the subject of labelling is to do our best to remain objective by being mindful of our tendency to label people, at least, that's how I try to beat it anyway.

I'll be honest here and say I think it's incredibly idealistic just to off hand say that labelling is stupid, because it's what we do, we're human- we're collectively very stupid, very animalistic (Dispite people trying their best to disprove it.) and very averse to judging things based on their differences.....that's what we do. Without labels, there's collective chaos within any movement.....for example; could you imagine films being released without a label, and simply as a title? It'd be ridiculously confusing.....

That's not me saying that it is necessarily a right or ethical thing to do, especially on the subject of appearance labelling, but appearance isn't the issue; without genres, music would be a much less humanly interesting a subject, as it'd be much harder to sift through, harder and more confusing to talk about and most importantly, it'd be nearly impossible to specialise as an fan or as an artist in a way you feel comfortable. Genres provide rules and constraints for a musician and a band to try and fit, mould and hopefully enhance, shape and evolve.

If Blues for example hadn't have came along, Classic Rock may not have evolved or maybe even existed, as they were natural forms of evolution to offshoot creatively from.....same being for Blues leading to Metal as well.....Blues is the backbone for any serious metal band's basis.....

Genres are a necessary and important form of catagorisation most especially in my opinion for those of us like myself who pour much of themselves into their chosen forms of music, we see these things as being far more important than merely a 'casual' hobby.....as a musician of any class, good or bad, genres add structure and variety as well as influences to draw on.

I can understand people not wanting to be 'tied down' by genres, partly because I notice more and more people growing up in this age are trying their best to be as standoffish, as inoffensive and as crowd-pleasing as possible, and that's fine- we've all done it at some point; I myself was guilty of doing it when I was a teenager not so long ago, I can also put it down to people not being as interested in music as myself and others, I can also put it down to casual fans springing up (Which to be fair is a majority of people.) and just sort-of 'listening to whatever' which is very common.....Whatever the reason, I cannot agree with this fundamentally because music makes up too much of my life and my time for it to be in chaos, for it to be unstructured to find, for it to lack the ability to spawn the awesome community that I'm a part of, and most importantly for it to be unable to inspire me as a musician in a set field because of it then being a confused, gibbering mess of an artform, instead of what it is now.

That's not me saying that all music is great, genres also allow for commercial crap to be created and fed to people who sit and watch Big Brother and read The Sun and think American Idol and the X-Factor generates talent.....but that's not really the point I'm on.

Anyhoo, wow, it's been a long time from I launched into a rant like that; sorry if anyone got swallowed up in this, no offense is intended- just a mass rant from a tired dude thinking too much. :) I'll stop melting everyone with my random tangent while it lasts! I'm off to bed.  :P

yeah i agree..andwhat i said didn't really come out right heh. i just meant that to me, fair enough things have to be categorized but so much grief has come from it..especially with kids getting labelled chav or emo or goth. id just like to listen to anything and not have to be labelled as one thing. shame thats not gonna happen ::)

just a little reminder.

This is a topic where people express their opinion

that IS allowed.  everyone is entitled to think certain bands or music is the best.

Please dont be offended by people's love of different music

Trust you Icy to find the fun in any rant I go off on!  ;)

Sash, don't worry, it's cool enough if you feel the way you feel, it's perfectly valid for you to dislike labelling considering the fact that many use it as an excuse to bully, goad, annoy and insult people- What you had said before had come across very generally to me, and that's why I felt the need to make the point I did, not so much to argue as to put across another view. Your point is about your feelings and I totally respect that.  :)

Well, y'know me... ::) :laugh:

We all label each other, it's a natural Human thing to do.  Y'know, we give each other labels in work, in our social lives, probably from the time Man first evolved.  You know, different tribes, different customs...we're meant to be different.

I don't mind what people label me, although one of the girls in work said the other day, "You're a bit Emo ain't you?  But then you're also a bit Metal, and Trendy, and Girly....you're just Laura!" lol!  Is that good or bad?

I think if people label you, be proud of it anyway!  If they call you Emo, who cares?  If they call you Chav, who cares?  Just smile and laugh and don't even think about what it means, as long as you are yourself, then there's nothing to worry about :D

So thus, let us poke each other with sticks...until the dawn breaks on the day of reckoning!  *cue music*  :ivn:

I really don't have a peticular taste in music, I will listen to anything, but not cheesy pop, God I hate it with a passion.
But anything else I love, it just depends what mood I'm in.
If I'm all hyped up and stupid, I'll listen to dance rave music, but if I'm depressed then I'll go listen to something like muse. :-\
