I just opened this bottle of Powerade Zero, strawberry flavor..  The aftertaste is like lettuce..  I bet it has Splenda in it..  I hate Splenda..  Just checked and it doesn't have Splenda in it, though it does have an artificial sweetener in it..  -shrug-  The lettuce aftertaste is rather interesting..  I can't decide if I hate or if I can tolerate it..  :8o

That's kind of odd.

Have you tried any of the stevia sweeteners?  I have tried Truvia and the Kroger kind, and both have a slight but pleasant aftertaste of tapioca.

Sadly though the FDA hasn't approved stevia for use as an artificial sweetener additive in other foods.  Thus far I've not read of any scientific researched data on possible harmful side effects of stevia, but still it could be years before the FDA is convinced. I wish they would move ahead and approve it for diet colas. I have read too many bad things about aspartame to continue enjoying diet cola.

Splenda always leave a nasty taste in my mouth, which is why I hate it..  Aspartame is fine by me, though..  I used to drink Diet Coke all the time..  I've just recently started drinking Powerade instead..  Though I do sometimes get Diet Coke when we eat out..    I dunno, I've never tried Stevia, so I don't know what it's like..

It, like Splenda, looks and measures pretty much the same as natural sugar. That was always my gripe with NutraSweet. It was so potent and so fine that if one opened a bag and accidentally inhaled a little airborne, one might be sneezing or worse yet, nosebleeding afterwards.  Mind you it's the risk of increased cancer  and macular degeneration that steer me away from aspartame and saccharine. (Do they still even use saccharine in anything?)

Well, here's my thinking: just about every substance known to man will have some sort of effect on our bodies..  Some may be good, some may be bad..  I don't know that the proof is really there to convince me that aspartame is anymore dangerous than any other sweetener..  Splenda and Stevia could also be very bad for you, it just takes years and years of use to actually see signs of the negative effect that it may have..
