For it to not be a letdown, they just need to capture the feel of the book. They don't necessarily need to keep to it verbatim, because books don't translate to films like that, but if it feels right then it should be ok. Like LotR - TTT and RotK didn't keep precisely to the books, but they changed what they needed to make a good movie without losing the spirit of the story, so they worked.

I suppose that it would be possible to have the same kind of feel as PJ's movies, but I doubt it'll feel exactly the same.. I'm with you, hopefully it feels enough like LotR to make it worth seeing..

If they capture the feel of the book it should be a lighter film then.  I hope they do the dragon well - he was, well not my favourite character, but a strong character that I enjoyed reading. |

Sooo - they've got some people cast. Although some that I'd like to see confirmed still see to be rumours. And they've had to change whole sets of laws to get it made in New Zealand. Kind of wish they'd been forced to make it in the UK though ... might have been in with a chance as a hobbitess  |

Good news for those that haven't heard!: Peter Jackson IS doing the films (they'll be breaking it up into two movies) and they're filming in New Zealand.. Don't have a release date yet, but we can hope it'll be next year!
