If anyone has already started a thread about this, then I apologise, but I can't find one, so meh.

Anyway, has anyone read The Children of Húrin yet?  I finished it a couple of days ago (I had to wait a whole week to go and buy it because I wasn't even in the country ::)) and I think it was worth waiting for, if only because Alan Lee's illustrations were absolutely beautiful.

I was wondering what other people thought about this?  None of my friends at school have read it (or have any intention of reading it) and I need to discuss it with someone! :D

Woohoo, ok.  At the moment I chat to my bookcase about it, and I don't get quite as much out of it as I'd like.  Yes, I am insane.

I look forward to it! :D

As far as I can garner it is the whole story done as a single narrative.

I have to confess, I have not read it yet. I would like to say The Fall of Gondolin done as a single narrative - I think that would be fantastic!

Children of Hurin? Is it the extended version of Narn i Hin Hurin from the Unfinished Tales? ???

It is - it came out about two weeks ago and is the complete text of the story.

Has anyone read this book yet? Can we have a review?

I don't buy hard backs so I'm afraid you'll have to wait for my review. I am looking forward to the read as it's one of my favourite themes from the Silmarillion.

Ive started reading it.  I found the first 2 chapters quite hard going, had to keep re reading them.. but now its onto Turin's story its getting really interesting

Its written in the style of LOTR... what Id call old fashioned English... but still its a good read!  Im really enjoying it!

I've just started reading it, read a few pages now and I'm really liking it :)  It's nice to know more about Hurín and Turín.  Especially as Turín is my favourite character in Tolkien's world :)  Along with Aragorn, for other reasons (A)  hehe!

I think Turin is quite arrogant!  He caused a lot of deaths and heartache that he neednt have if hed been a bit more considerate for his men.

I wonder I thought this story published in the Unfinished Tales about Turin was complete. Did Tolkien ever write it as a single narrative in the LotR style? In the Unfinished Tales the story seemed to be rather like the Silmarillion or have Christopher Tolkien edited it so much? ???

I don't think he was arrogant, I just think he always tried to do the best but it was never the right thing to do.  I just love the complexity (sp?) of him.  I mean, he may have caused heartache, but he sure did feel it himself alot.

He just has a depth to him that I was drawn into :)
