While listening to the Complete Recordings last time I've noticed that there's an elvish song in the Paas of Caradhras sung when Boromir is holding the Ring. I haven't realised it as a song, I thought it was just a chorus singing one sound. So, do you know the verse they are snging?

There are many moments like that, for instance when Arwen meets Frodo in Trollshaws before she speaks her 'Im Arwen ...' when you're unsure whether it is a sound or song. But in that scene with Boromir it's definetely a song.

According to this, the poem is:

Seduction of the Ring

I tuo, i macil -
Astaldaron mauri
Nai corma macilya
A lelyat túrenna!

Which translates as:

The strength, the weapon -
The needs of the valiant.
Be the ring your weapon
Go to victory.

It is worth remembering that it the whole poem is not heard in the song. The poem does occur in other places:

  • in the standard TFOTR soundtrack you can hear it in Amon Hen (track 16) / this is also track 5, disc 3 of the extended soundtrack;
  • The Forbidden Pool (track 13) in the standard TTT soundtrack;
  • it may very well appear elsewhere but I can't think of any examples of it at the moment.

Ahh, how unfortunate, you can find it on the Official Lord of the Rings Soundtrack website, along with an annotated score for TTT Complete Recordings.
