A ban on the general sale of swords and a licensing regime for sales of non-domestic knives and other bladed items were announced today.

Legislation, to be introduced to Parliament later this year, will make it an offence for anyone to sell swords in Scotland other than for a legitimate purpose specifically exempted in law, including religious, cultural and sporting purposes.

Retailers wishing to sell swords under the exemptions will need to be licensed and comply with mandatory licence conditions, as will any business dealing in non-domestic knives and other bladed implements such as machetes."

Does this mean the UK next ?  Will mean the end of collections that people want... i.e LOTR sword collections :(

you will be able to buy them for reenactment purposes the article said. So it seems that you now collect swords in order to participate in reenactments E G

She would need to register with a reenacment society, and the other issue is that LOTR memorabilia doesn't fall in that category.

I don't know if they will leave collectors alone but you will have to enquire.

Certainly things in that respect are due to change all around the U.K but I don't think that what you already own would be under threat of being seized by the authorities. I do know that because I know dealers who are not delivering to Holland and Spain, however it is a matter of wording and depends on the value of the item. If it is a £50-150 sword it will most certainly not be considered a collectible for serious sword enthusiasts, so what I am getting at is that in most cases the work of custom makers is not entirely under threat.
