Faith, Courage, Love

« : May 17, 2006, 12:03:15 AM »

I’m finally done with all my exams so I’ve actually got time to be on here now. So let me now officially say, LET THE SUMMER GAMES BEGIN!

In the land of Faerun there is a city called Water Deep, one of the largest trade cities in all Faerun. This is because it is accessibly not only by land but also by sea. Water Deep, like any other major city in Faerun has it’s good parts of town, where all the wealthy people live and where all the nice temples can be found and also the heroes garden(a great beautiful garden where people often meet and reminisce about old adventures or plan new ones), as well as it’s middle class areas where you will find many more people of less wealth as well as the Plynth (a mass temple to all the gods), and then it has it’s lower class areas down by the docks were there is not so much as one public temple and you had best not be out after dark if you want to live to see tomorrow. In this part of town it is not at all uncommon to wake up in the morning and find a dead body in the street outside your apartment building.

One evening in the early spring a Paige came into every tavern, bar, and Inn in all of Water Deep. The Paige would walk silently over to the bulletin board (where new jobs and new adventures were often posted) and post up a single piece of parchment. They would then exit in very much the same manner. After they had left some taverns there was a rush for the bulletin board to see what had been posted, it other, higher class taverns, only a few very well dressed adventurers would calmly walk over to see what was so important that it had been posted there.

That night in the Portal (an especially rowdy tavern in the middle class section of town that got its name from a large well looking opening in its center that served as a portal into the upper reaches of the Under Dark) it was much like the first situation I described. There was a mad rush for the board and a burly male dwarf got there first but the parchment had been posted so high up that he could not reach it. So there he was standing on his tip toes and then finally jumping to try and get it. Finally he jumped just high enough to get a hold of the parchment and when he hit the ground again he found himself toppling over backwards into the crowd. When he finally got his wits back he realized that there was a female Halfling sitting on his chest pulling at the parchment yelling, “I got it first! You saw it Kyla I had my hand on it first! If this fat oaf hadn’t grabbed it and pulled me down off your shoulders I would have had it for us right now!”

“Must you make such a scene Runa?” Came another female Halflings voice from behind them.

“YES I MUST! I had it first!!!!!!” Runa pushed and kicked at the dwarf. “Give it back you fat oaf!”

“I’ll do no such thing missy!” Growled the dwarf “Now get off me chest!”

Then from behind the bar came the cool voice of a male dwarf. “Either settle it now or take it outside. If I wasn’t so fond of the lass I’d throw the both of you into the portal right this instant.”

Before this the bar had been full of the sound of rowdy patrons who had moved to see the commotion. Now all was dead silent as they waited to see what Runa and the dwarf would do. Then something rather unexpected happened. Runa stood up, keeping her grip on the parchment with one hand and offering the other to the dwarf to help him up. The dwarf ignored the girl’s hand knowing all to well that a halfling of her size could not lift a full grown dwarven male. He managed to get to his feet without letting go of the parchment. Then Runa looked him in the eye. “I’ll arm wrestle you for it.” She said with a grin.

“Now that I will not do lass. It would be unfair of me to take such advantage of you.” The dwarf was speaking loud now so that all could hear him.

“So you would deny me my right to challenge you for what I feel is rightly mine?!” Runa scoffed “What kind of dwarf are you?”

“Now wait just a minute there lass!” The dwarf growled “I only refused ye’ ‘cause it din’ seem right to be takin’ such advantage of ye’.”

“It would not be taking advantage of me.” Runa said quickly. “I’m a dwarf just the same as you. The only difference is I’m female. Are you implying that I’m not as strong as you because I’m a woman?!” Runa looked a bit annoyed and very insulted now, but very serious all the same.

The dwarf looked baffled at this girl. How could she claim to be a dwarf when she was clearly a halfling, rather large halfling, but a halfling all the same.

Then came the small halfling voice from behind Runa again. This time it was but a soft whisper. “By all the gods do not tell her she’s a halfling. You won’t live to see tomorrow if you do.”

The dwarf didn’t know what to do. It was then that he realized the whole tavern was staring at him. “Fine.” He said grudgingly. “I’ll arm wrestle ye’ but don’ say I din’ warn ye’.”

In a few moments a table was cleared, Runa sat on one side, the dwarf on the other, and the rest of the tavern patrons were crowded around watching with anticipation. The bartender stood at one end of the bar holding the parchment which he would give to the winner.  Patrons began setting best on who they thought would win. “I put five coppers on the dwarf.” “Well I’ll put 7 on the half, I...I mean female dwarf.”  “Ten on the male dwarf.” Then from across the room came a wise male voice “Ten gold says Runa wins.” Now it started. At first the dwarf seemed to be at an advantage, but then Runa seemed to master up strength that none had ever imagined she could hold. The dwarf was almost beat. From somewhere in the crowd someone whispered a spell ever so softly and the dwarf’s muscles seemed to bulge to an even larger size. After this he started to win again. Runa’s hand was almost pinned. Then from behind Runa came that same small female halfling voice. “Come on sis! You can do it!” At this point Runa seemed to find new strength within her. It was not long at all before the dwarf was beat. There was much groaning and complaining as coin was handed out.

Runa Jumped up onto the table triumphant. And all cheered. Then the bartender handed her the parchment. She looked at it and groaned softly. “Kyla there are too many big words on here will you read it for me.”
Kyla grudgingly got on top of the table and read the paper. The contents were as follows.

To all adventurers who are brave and true to their country,
In the south the city of Bristol has been destroyed by orc raiders and
worse. Therefore, two days hence there shall be a scavenger hunt held
to decide who shall get ownership of this land, as is tradition. All
those who wish to take place in this scavenger hunt should meet at

There was a sign on the wall of the heroes garden that read

                              In oder to compete
                               there must be six
                               in your party and
                               of at least three
                               diffrent races.

"What does it say?" *asked Runa quietly so that hopefully only Kyla heard her.*
"It says we need at least six to our party and of three diffrent races." *Answered Kyla quietly.*
*For a moment Runa was quiet as she counted silently on her fingers.* "That means we need three...no four more people and umm...." *She was quiet again for a momnet. All this math seemed to be very taxing on her mind.*
*Kyla could see her sister struggling and decided it was best not to let everyone in the world know her sister was not that bright.* "Two other races sister."
"Yeah thats what I was just going to say." *She paused to remember.* "Four more people and two more races other then dwarf. That might be hard to find."
*All the while Kyla had been looking around at those who were loitering outside the heroes garden looking for parties of their own.*

Ehlanna read the sign and cursed under her breath. How was she supposed to get her own land when she had to work as a team. She sighed and looked around. Who could she work with? She saw the two dwarve women and headed over. "Have you read the notice?" She asked politely.

(just to let you know they are halflings  and they look like it, but Runa thinks she is a dwarf.)

*Runa looked up at Ehlanna and then back at her sister.* "Will he do?"
*Kyla immedietly thumped Runa over the head.*
*Runa looked rahter upset and hurt like a dog that had just been kicked, but she said nothing.*
*Kyla looked up at the stranger that had just talked to them. She took a step toward her and said in a little more then a whisper.* "Forgive my sister. She is not quite all there if you know what I mean." *Then in a louder voice and as if she had not yet said a thing to Ehlanna.* "Yes we read it and we were just looking around to see if there was anyone around who looked like they might be in our same situation. Are you looking for a group by chance? There are only two of us and were quite small but more then able. Runa here went down inot the Portal by herslef for four hours and came back up with six drow heads. Not many can do something like that and survive. Just ask anyone who's been down there. They'll tell you how tough that is."

Ehlanna folded her arms and raised an eyebrow at the two halflings. "I am on my own at the moment. But with the three of us, we only need three more, and two other races," she said. "I am Ehlanna, a ranger from the north. I came here in order to gain some land. I can hunt, fight and track proficiently, as well as skin animals, tan leather... anything thats needed."

((Oooo I love this roleplay!! I joined it once before and I was really sad when it never picked up. *Runs off to find her characters* :P))

ame: Moreta (Mor-REET-ah)
Race: Centaur
Age: 473
Description: The equine part of Moreta's body is a strange mix between Shire and Arab. She has the grace and speed of the Arab horse, but the sheer size and power of the great Shire. Her coat is a beautiful glossy black, her tail also the same hue. On her human body, her skin is golden tanned and her hair again is black. She couldnt be classed as stunning or beautiful but she is attractive in her own right, with proud features, reminiscent of a bird of prey, a falcon perhaps. Like all centaurs, Moreta wears no clothes and is totally unashamed of her nakedness in front of others - to her it is perfectly natural.
Weapons: Unlike most centaurs, Moreta uses neither magic or bows. She has two single blade swords diagonally across her back, each hilt sticking up above one of her shoulders. Her hooves quite often come in to play as well.

Name: Keran (ki-RAHN)
Age: Unknown but looks about 30
Race: Werewolf
Description: Tall, broad shouldered and muscled to perfection. Keran's skin and face are weathered and tanned from a his outdoor life. Though not stunningly handsome, his rugged, weather beaten features do hold attraction for many. His hair is short, dark and spiked, his eyes a forest leaf green. He is rarely seen without his quarterstaff and is never seen not wearing his leather bracers.
Weapons: His trusty quarterstaff, which he uses like a master and his leather bracers which are leather covered in swirling metals that meet across his knuckles and rise in four lethal spikes - formidable weapons in the hands of those who can use them. Of course, Keran also has the ability to change into a wolf at will - during the full moon is the only time when Keran has no choice but to remain in that form.

Like a waves, momentary silence fell as they spotted her powerful and majestic form walking down the street, and then suddenly, the whispers started, spreading like wildfire through the crowds. A small smile played across her mouth as she heard them but it bothered her not a whit, in fact she held her head higher, more proudly. The centaurs rarely ventured from their own forest lands, in fact there were many who had never before seen one of her race. Most of her people disapproved of mingling with outsiders, and there had been talk of a Law to be passed, but Moreta loved to travel, to see new places and people. She was the black sheep of her kinsman. The echo of her hooves died as she stepped onto the soft grass. She had every intention of joining this quest and she had heard of the two halflings and their earlier exploits - talk always travelled fast in these places. They would be just perfect to join if they had not already found themselves a full team. Her gaze roved the open garden, she had been advised they were last seen here, and after a few seconds she finally spotted them and headed in their direction.

A second form followed the centaur, his eyes following her, uninterested in who it was she wished to see. He was one of few who knew about the centaurs, and he knew how truely dangerous they could be. If there was anyone he wanted fighting by his side, he was absolutely certain it was her. Ever since he had first seen her walking through the streets, a path opening up before her so that she didn't have to try and step around people, he had known he had to get her to join this quest and he had to be on whichever team she chose.

(Actully at the moment there are only 5 because I decided to hold the dwarf back in case I didn't need him. And I just realized the sign was incorrect. It was to read that there was to be at least 6 so you could have more if you wanted. So feel free to join and we'll just wait on the dwarf because I really don't know that I want three characters anyway. However if we can get enough people to make two teams that would be cool too. I never immagined I'd have that many in here.)

"Those are all good skills and i'm sure they will come in handy at some point, but the real question is can you fight while also staying out of my sisters way? She tends to get a bit carried away at times." *Kyla kept a very serious look on her face while speaking. As odd as what she had said sounded she was most certainly not joaking.*
*Just then Runa spotted Moreta for she was not hard to see when all those before her parted. Her jaw dropped and her eyes became almost the size of saucers. Never had she seen such a creature before in all her life.* "Oooooo....Pritty." *She pointed at the centaur and spoke in a very loud voice so that everyone around heard her. and knew what it was she was refering to.*
*Kyla looked to where her sister was pointing. At that point her face got even reader with embaresment. How could Runa be so dense as to not realize how rude that was. She did the only thing she could think of. She smacked Runa upside the head.* "It's rude to point! And to stare for that matter! Do you want people thinking your some crazy wild halfling?!" *THe second after the word slipped out of her mouth she realized what she had just said and did the only thing she could. She pulled her shield off her back and crouched down this it in front of her at a slight angle so Runa could not hit her from the front or above. Why did she have to go and call her that?*
*Runa's face twisted with anger. Why did peoplealways call her that?! She was no halfling! She was obviously a dwarf! Were they all blind or something?! How could anyone mistake a dwarf for a halfling and why was it that it was always only her that they mistook for a halfling and not other dwarfs?!* "I AM NOT A HALFLING! I'M A DWARF!" *She was now yelling so loud that everyone in town that knew her, which was most everyone, knew that someone had just called Runa a halfing again and felt immedietly very sorry for that person. the next second her axe was out of it's sheath on her back and she was smacking her sisters shield with it. Their came the muffled sound of metal hitting metal with something in between it. In all her anger Runa had forgotten to remove the cover from her axe.*
*"Thank the gods!" Thought kyla. Now all I have to do is wait for her to tire herself out and then just say i'm sorry and buy her an ale or something before we leave town and it will all be over.*
"MISS!" *Called a well dressed gentlemen from inside the gates of the garden.* "Miss you will have to desist streight away! It is simply not permitted to fight in the city. Don't make me call the guards! I'll do it. I sware i will!"

*Something was wrong. Normally Runa would have been tired out by now. What was going on? Kyla was not sure she could last much longer under these blows. Her arm trobbed with pain. Why did she have to go and call Runa a halfling? It was sucha stupid mistake. Everyone who had even heard of Runa knew how dangerous it was to call her a halfling. Oh the pain! What could so do. As a last desperit atemp to save her hide she called out into the croud as loud as she possibly could.* "Someone cast calm emotions!"

Ehlanna watched the interchange with amusement, but her smile faded when the Halfling pulled out her axe. She stepped around the side, moving behind the Halfling with the axe, and, on her next upwards swing, wrestled the axe from her grip, chucking it to one side. "Now is that anyway to treat a sister?" She said quietly to the "Dwarf"

*Runa fought with all her strength when she felt someone behind her pulling on her axe. But just as she thought she was going to win her strength failed her and she could no longer keep her weapon from her atacker. As soon as her axe hit the ground she spun around with fists ready and was just about to hit her atacker when she realized it was a friendly face that she saw before her.* "But she called me a halfling!" *She yelled as loud as she could.* "I am NOT a HALFLING! I AM A Dwarf! A DWARF I TELL YOU! A DWARF!" *Her face was now a twist of pain, anger, and confusion.* "Isn't it obvious!?"
*Kyla sighed with relief when the blows stopped. Thank the gods! Someone had stopped her. She stood up tentativly, ready to duck down again should the blows continue. Before her she saw her sister talking to Ehlanna. She was rather surprised that such a person could have been able to stop Runa. They must have been very lucky, or maybe they outsmarted her. She finally realized that Runa was speaking and what she had just said. Here was where she must step in and apolagise for what she had said.* "Yes it's obvious." *She said softly beofre anyone else could say anything becaus eshe feared someone might be stupid enough to speak the truth.* "And i'm sorry I called you a halfling. I just get so frustrated sometimes when you don't think before you speak."
*Runa turned around to face her sister.* "You know I can't help it. I'm not as smart as you and I can't fix it."
*Kyla was just about to respond when the well dressed gentlemen from inside the gate interupted her.*
"I ought to ban you from this compatition for what you just did! You are not worthy of such a high honor as to be a lady and partial owner of a town."
*Before Runa could even move to grab her axe Kyla cut it.* "Now wait just a minute!" *She marched right up the the man untill she was so close she was almost standing on his feet and she put on the most intimidating look she could manige.* "Runa here is far more worthy of this honor than any other person here. She has fought and defeated countless enemied of this city and this kingdom that other people would have taken one look at and ran awya from. She is far braver than anyone I know! And it would be an honor to have her in this compatition!"
*The man was so astonished at the words of this small little woman that he could not even speak.*
"Thats what I thought!" *Kyla said triumphantly as she turned and walked back to her sister and the other people outside.*
