Band of the Painted Man

As always with my roleplays I ask that anyone who joins tries to write as much as possible in their posts

(I apologise... this post is a little long but I had to try and make sure Id explained it properly)

This roleplay is based on the books by Juliet Marillier and I have used her words for some descriptions of characters.

In a time where the Túatha Dé Dannan (The Fair Folk) and the Fómhoire (the Old Folk) still roam the land, many of the Lords fight for land, laying seige to each others Keeps. It is a world where those with the power or the money win. A world where the right or wrong alliances make or break others. In this world, there is a band, a band with no alliance. A band who are infamous throughout the land. A band that fights for money alone. A band who are able to do things others believe to be beyond the impossible. This is the Band of the Painted Man.

Every member is an outcast of society, "rescued" from their previous existance by the leader. Every single one of them would be dead were it not for him. He has given them a reason to live. These men are proud of what they do, proud of their prowess, of the knowledge that they are the best. If they cannot achieve something, then noone could.

When they join the band, they forget their previous life, it no longer exists, they are no longer who they used to be. Each one takes on a name, a name that suits his personality, a name of an animal - their is only one without the name of an animal, their leader, Chief. Along with their name, they all recieve tattoos across their body and face, tattoos of fur, scales or feathers. Tattoos that show their identity. Parts of their clothes often represent their identity.

A couple of examples for you to get an idea of what I mean:

Dog - Half of his skull is shaved, and the other half left alone, where it hangs wild and knotted. Around his neck he wears a a strip of leather threaded through three great claws, perhaps a wolf's, though this would have been a bigger wolf than most men would see in their lives, or wish to see. This man had a face pockmarked with small scars and feral yellow eyes. His chin is etched with a neat pattern, the ink marked in the skin in cross hatched lozenges from lip to jaw line - fur.

Snake - He has markings about his wrists as of twined serpents and over his tunic he wears a strange garment that appears to be fashioned of snakeskin. The flesh of his face is etched and coloured, this time on the brow. A design of cunningly interlocked scaled, and a forked, venomous tongue drawn down the ridge of the nose.

Name: Chief
Age: 23 though is fact, the way he acts, and his looks make him seem much older than this.
Description: His is a face such as you would never have seen before, even in the most fanciful of dreams. On the left side, the face of a youngish man, the skin weathered but fair, the eye grey and clear, the mouth well formed if unyielding in character. On all the right side, extending from an undrawn mark down the exact centre, an etching of line and curve and feathery pattern, like the mask of some fierce bird of prey, the circles about the eye, the suggestion of the predatory beak around the nostril, the mark of the raven. The pattern extends across the entire right hand side of his body, and his head is completely shaven, revealing the same pattern across the right hand side of his skull.
Other: An incredibly strong man, unforgiving, proud and highly respected by all his men. They would leap to carry out his orders at a single word. This man is the most feared of all the band. This is the Painted Man.
