After having re-read the book one, thanx to K8's quiz, I believe that the Enwives if they are still to be found in Middle-earth dwell somewhere near the Shire. Why no in the Old Forest for example? There are the ungrown paths that no one is walking and the trees that show signs of activity. The Old Man Willow that grows or lives, that's perhaps a more suitable word, on the bank of the Withywindle did move. This probability of the envives being in the Eriador seems to be more solid than of them being somewhere in the East somehow. ???

That picture is amusing..  :P  ;D

But on a more serious note; I believe it was a hoax..  If there was reference to the entwives then more people besides those two would have found it..  It would be awesome for there to be reference to them and their demise, but I don't believe it..
