First read LOTR in 1968. Still my favorite book!

Well, I finished The Children of Hurin, and I've got to say - if you like Greek tragedy where there's suffering galore and everybody dies at the end, you'll love this work. Let's see - there's torture, betrayal, murder, tragic deaths, incest, mistaken identities, evil - all you people who wanted to live in Middle Earth, I'm betting you didn't yen for the First Age!
I think I'd like to read a book about Earendil's voyage to Arda and the Valar's coming to Middle Earth to overthrow Morgoth - at least there's some good news and hope in that story (although it eventually led to the rise of Sauron).
Still, I think C of H was easier to read than The Sil - the former is a story, but the latter is a history.

I don't demand perfection - I will settle for excellence.
Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Two great myths of our time:
1. Everything called 'natural' is good for you.
2. Everything you read on the Web must be true.
