Experience in Elvish

Have you ever tried to learn some of the elvish languages or others of Tolkien’s creation? First I was astonished of the vastness of the material available and the whole system of languages. So, I decided to ask if some of you have the experience of studying. What are your achievements in this subject?

I tried it once, but because of the (like you said) vastness of the materials, wich of some are no Tolkien Languages, but other types of Elvish, and the fact i was still in High School (didn't had time to learn another language besides the school languages).

My 'greatest' achievement is that i made a grammar list, so that if i want to make an elvish sentence, i can look it up.

Actually I didn't mean phrases, but ability to write/speak in Elvish. By the way, elvish speach sounds  in a very uncommon way. I didn't imagine it like Tolkien himself pronounces  it .
And yes, there's no much time left for exploring the language(s).
Have you tried any courses?

no, i know what you meant.  but the times ive thought it would be useful to know, are when Id like to write something in particular.. but since i can mostly loook it up...i havent had to learn it ... bad really eh!

Ive only come across one course on the Net... not sure how good it is..

Well, I suppose we're speaking of the same course at Ardalambion, course of Quenya in a number of lessons. Shame to say, I only downloaded it but never opened it since.
Speaking of phrases, I'm displeased to remember those without realising what each word in it mean. I know what means 'Mae govannen' but haven't a clue what 'mae' or 'govannen' mean.
There aren't many people who study Quenya or Sindarin, may be that's what prevents serious learning. I should very much like to read Elvish extracts in the books or watch the films's extracts with the elvish languages being aware what is written or said. Maybe that is an inspiration?

but you can't realiy learn Elvish because there is no every words you need to learn thi language...

When a needed word is missing, people can use either a find the word is other material (primarily the periodical Vinyar Tengwar), b use a known construction, or information in etymologies, to figure out the word, or c use words you do know to come up with a suitable alternative (e.g. tellarë for yesterday)

I had downloaded a Sindarin course but only after two years (now) I have managed to try and learn.

It's not as difficult as people made it look though. It just needs time, just like every other language.

And yes, I've become more familiar to the alphabet. Although my Tengwar characters don't have the caligraphy I'd like.
