I'm suprised that you're all suprised by the "revalation". I though it was fairly likely from book 1.

Similar to Tolkien's Elves? Elves that "marry" for as long as suits them? Tolkien's married for life/ever.

There are going to be similarities, fantasy Elves (are there any other kind?) tend to be similar - either Tolkien-esque, or "fairies".
It did feel somewhat "Pern dragon", but as I've not really read other dragon books, I don't know if that's "normal" for dragon stories the way long life is "normal" for Elves.

Okay...I have this issue with the book...

Everytime you turn the page, it's like..."Oop, there go the Elves, partying again."

That really got on my nerves.

"God is the Lord, of angels, and of men-and of elves."-J.R.R. Tolkien

And I shall be telling this with a sigh
somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood and I,
I took the road less traveled by
And that has made all the difference.

Even the smallest star shines in the darkness

I relay enjoyed the books although I did notace alto of similarities to LOTR...including the title of the first book...

Eragorn...Sound familiar anyone?

But considering he wrote the first book at 15, I have to give him a fair amount of credit, as it captivated me. And you could relay see how his righting developed through Eldest.

And I can't Waite for the film!

Soon as the evening shades prevail,
The moon takes up the wondrous tale,
And nightly to the listening earth,
Repeats the story of her birth.

Whilst all the stars that round her burn,
And all the planets, in their turn,
Conform the tidings as they roll,
And spread the truth from pole to pole.

Yeah, the movie seems like it's gonna be pretty good.  I'm looking forward to it...and I'll be home from college the day it comes out.

Sweet.   8)

Do not grieve for those whose time has come...

whey well i've finally got round to reading them both!!! damn they were long, i think he could easily have halfed both of them but ah well!!
i thought they were brilliant, eldest was much better than eragon which i found sorta tedious... though i understand now that if he wrote that when he was 15... yeah it wasnt the best writing  lol but on the other hand.. yeah eldest had me captivated  :) didnt guess the twist at the end, although i knew that murtagh and the twins wouldnt have died i didnt expect the rest!
the LOTR similarities were a bit annoying at times but i think in the end the author finally made it his own!
i'm too afraid to watch the film now... :( haha anyone know when the 3rd books gonna come out??

Death is just another path, one that we all must take.

Ooh, I read these both at the end of last year... Eldest is definetly the better of the two....makes you wonder how good the final part will be in comparison!!

Yeah, they are similar to LOTR...and the name Eragon is very familiar.. I kept accidently calling him Aragorn...

But, there are enough differences between the books to keep me interested -I like the way Saphira doesn't actually speak, just telepathically links to people.
