Has anyone seen this yet? My boyfriend and I saw it last friday and I thought it was great :D There are some flaws obviously (such as Tonks and Lupin having almost no role at all >.>) and it felt a little too rushed in places, but I still really liked it!

I thought Luna was perfect though! She really played the part well :D Bellatrix was great too, I found the accent funny.

SPOILER ALERT [For those who haven't seen the film or read the book..]

I didn't like how they didn't show Harry's grief though, it was like he didn't really care that much about what had happened to Sirius, and as we know from reading the book - he really did. >.<

I was also quite disappointed about Snape's flashback, we didn't really get to see them properly at all! I was so excited about seeing the young Lupin, Sirius, James and Lily :( Hmph!

I saw it on the weekend, and I was dissapointed with it, to be quite truthful :(

I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, it was an excellent film - but it felt very disjointed, and it didn't explain itself as it went along.  For people who have read the book, obviously it would have been easy to understand, but some people who haven't, I'm sure they were confused!  I was just lucky I read the book!

I liked the secret Defence club part they kept in, that was good, and the fights at the end, but like you said Isie, they didn't show the grief of Harry for Sirius, and I felt it ended very abruptly.  I felt it needed at least another half hour or something.

Overall, excellent film alone, but when compared to the book, not so good!

Last Thursday, me and my boyfriend and a few friends queued for 5 hours, were the first ones in and my god we all came out of the cinema so so disappointed.
There was so much left out it's so unreal, the end especially, I mean..the whole Dumbledore speech where he tells Harry everything was reduced to what..2 seconds...argh!
NO MARAUDERS!! Well, very little. So upset, I really wanted to see them. :( The "Harry-is-a-snake-and-bit-Mr-Weasley" thing...what happened! Nothing was explained, nothing! Argh! No Harry grief...er...yeah random...no two-way mirror or anything >.<
Sirius' death failed to make me cry as it did in the books, it was so...rushed...my god.
David Yates' take on the film was good though I thought, it just needed a better script.  ::)
Umbridge was amazing, haha I loved her, so nasty! I'm glad they included Grawpy, it was so cute with the bell thing with Hermione haha. Luna = loooove, perfect! She needed a bigger role though. Bellatrix was amazing, though Helena Bonham Carter is always amazing so yeah. Ministry fight bit was amazing, I wish i'd gotten to see it IMAX though.

I hope the book raises my HP spirits.  ::)

I have to agree.,....the books are waaaaay better than the film! You feel so much more involved when reading the books and Sirius's death was devastating, however in the film it didnt make me feel anything! They missed out so much i wanted to see.

Luna Lovegood was a great character, she was played so well! And Umbridge was so nasty it made me dislike her...so i guess they got that right too!
It was still good though, i'd see it again :)

I wish they'd make extended editions which includes more of the book!

I watched it a couple of days ago and absolutely loved it :D
Though Luna was really well portrayed and I gotta admit her voice is kinda sexy in that innocent dreamy kinda way

as for Nymphadora Tonks  :PP :PP :PP :PP :PP :PP :PP :PP
Just wow  ;D

Cant wait for the next book now and then Half Blood prince in 2008!

i totally agree with that part!

and how could they leave out quidditch (esp. with harry being captain this year!) and hermione and ron being prefects... i think they used parts they didnt need when they shouldve added parts from the book to make it flow better. it was good...very dark but i think they shouldve made it a little bit longer and added more.

I cant believe i forgot about tonks too!!! her look surprised me (in the books i know its says shes young but i always thought of her as kind of well... not ugly but certainly not as good looking as that)
and i LOVE luna...

one thing that is really bugging me... only harry and luna could see the thestrals right but when they were going to london none of the other characters were saying or making a fuss about riding something they couldnt see... i know that hagrid told them about them and stuff but it just looked too easy that they would jump on to an invisible flying "horse".

I have to admit, I have never enjoyed a Hary Potter film at the cinema.  I don't know why but I prefer to watch them on DVD.  Maybe its because I expect much and get disappointed at the cinema or maybe, I go over it in my head and then watch the DVD and get more into it......perhaps I'm just downright weird!  *nods*  Yep, thats the one!  LOL.

Anyway, the DVD comes out in November so I'll get it then and watch it to death or something.  Then, maybe, I'll have something good to say about it.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

« #8 : September 18, 2007, 08:20:05 PM »

There's a lot of detail that you miss when you watch it the first time on the big screen that you can pick up on when you watch them on DVD in your own time.  Particularly when you've read the books and you suddenly spot something that the book covers but you thought they'd missed in filming.

« #9 : September 19, 2007, 12:05:43 AM »

I personally wasn't happy with it either, but i definately enjoyed it more the 2nd time i watched it. I think Luna stole the movie for me, she was everything i expected her to be. I'll still buy it on DVD although i didn't particularly like it, I think the Goblet of fire or Prisoner of Azkaban has been the best HP movie so far. Knowing how the series ends has kind of ruined Harry Potter for me now .. :(

'I stand in Minas Anor, the Tower of the Sun,' she said; 'and behold! the Shadow has departed! I will be a shieldmaiden no longer, nor vie with the great Riders, nor take joy only in the songs of slaying. I will be a healer, and love all things that grow and are not barren. No longer do I desire to be a queen.' ~ Eowyn "Return of the King"

I have to agree with everyone on this one. They cut out so much in the movie which was disappointing.
The only good points of OOTP was Luna, she was really good and I imagined her to look and act like the actress who portrayed her.
Same goes for Delores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton who plays her kicks ass) and Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix, only HBC can play her in my opinion.

I too was disappointed with the lack of Tonks, Quidditch and even characters like Draco Malfoy.

However, I was happy with some parts, I mean I got to see Voldemort who is one of the coolest villains ever.

and how could they leave out quidditch (esp. with harry being captain this year!)

Harry isn't captain till HBP. Angelina is Captain.

Although yes, it would have been great to see some Quidditch - especially, for me, Harry and the twins beating the crap out of Draco...  Alos to see Ron being Keeper - and Luna's hat.

I'm going to stick my neck out here - For the most part, I don't think they could have improved upon the film unless they had gone for at least 4 hours worth.  There were bits that bugged me - the whole thing with Cho Chang, not Marietta, being the one who gave them away, was more than a little annoying; and of course, I'd have much rather seen more of the Marauders, and certainly more of Sirius and Remus. (fangirl. *swoon*)

But, and this is a big but - the acting, for the most part, was the best yet (barring some of the amazing stupid lines they give Emma Watson.) The new actors were perfectly cast (barring Arrabella Figg, but again, this is just my opinion) - especially Bellatrix and Umbridge. The music was by far the best; so much more story in it than in the other soundtracks.

And for all it was as short as the first film, and therefore HAD to cut out so much - it still worked as a bloody good resume of the book. (btw, I've seen spoilers of cut material that is going to be put on the DVD... MORE SIRIUS!!! (And Lupin has more than one memorable line... Really. It's true! ;) )

The thing is, the films are never, ever going to be the same as, (either as good or as bad) the books. Just like with LOTR (btw, I'm not suggesting that either LOTR books or films are on a par with HP.). They're just not. Because the producers do not have the money, and the directors don't have the time. (screen time, that is.) The same goes for every single film that comes from a book. And when you accept that, it's a lot easier to go and enjoy the film. And of course everybodys tastes are different.

Randomly, the only two films I've seen more than twice at a cinema (and I am not a cinema go-er) are Return of the King and Order of the Phoenix - both of them i've seen four times at a cinema (and I broke the ROTK EE Vhs I had through over watching.  :o ) I don't know what that says about me. Probably that a geek and her money are soon mesmerised.  :X:

Oh I so wanted Liz Smith to be cast as Arabella Figg!  I love her to bits!  She was brilliant in that children's TV show about the family of pirates.....god what was that called?  *think, think, think* (OK, on checking IMDB, it was called "Pirates" -  thats original, and her character was called Abigail Blood!)

And then, of course, she played the granny in the Royle Family and Letitia Cropley in Vicar of Dibley.  hehehehe

I've only just seen this film about a week ago, how sad is that?
My sister went to see it in the cinema when it first came out and I couldn't go because I'm always working.
This film has to be the best of them yet, I was on the edge of my seat when the V was inside Harry's head.
