I belong to that largest group of having read and watched the EEs of LOTR.  I really must get into reading some of the other Tolkien works though.

I haven't been a fan of moive before Lord of the Rings sequence . It was these three moives that made me a huge fan of they. I thougt these moives can touch my soul . 2 years past from Return of the King , however ,each time it appeared  in my head , very impressive!  It's a beautiful dream and never fade .

I've read LOTR and watched EE's of LOTR.

Well I've kinda read LOTR but I'm 13 and finding the use of language kinda hard to read so I'm going to do what Christopher Lee does and read them once every year .... it MUST get easier to read them that way.

Plus I'm a bit mental about the EE's of LOTR my friend Izzy is a bit sick of me... but she likes it when I talk about the dwarves 'cos shes a big fan of them.... ::)

I've seen the movies and they were very good. Except for Aragorn and his inability to remain on accent. He was all over the place. Especially whenever he was called upon to say "mordor".
I find the books to be somewhat close to toilet paper. All that singing and what on earth is Tom Bombadil about , if it wasn't an obvious thing that he's only included because Tolkien was too lazy to think of ways around certain situations then I don't know what is.
Haven't bothered much with the extended versions, since they apparently include some of the stuff like the singing which I thought was brilliant they cut out in the first place.
Now if it had Galadriel and Liv Tyler , whatever her char's name is in some sort of mud wrestling scene with aragorn/ then I'll be more interested. Two women and a guy is definitely the magic combo.

i think that tolkien was one of the best writers around.. he was able to convice the idea of a new world from the myths of this world.. creating a fantastic world of music and mtyh... which is not very easy... he is def in my top list and i have all the dvd extended versions of the movies.. really enjoyed them too!

casual fan indeed. what can I say  , I have loads of other interests and he's just NOT that great a writer. His style is older and plodding and he can't stand up to say , HP lovecraft for example.

That's fine , but if there is a lot of rosey eyed sheep mentality about tolkien that just doens't wash up when you actually read his writing. he had good ideas granted.. but his presentation of them was somewhat weak at points.
