Title: Keep calm and carry on
Post by: Anne on March 30, 2012, 03:33:53 PM
Based on the events of the last couple of days (for non UK people, the Prime Minister when talking about talks to avert a strike by fuel tanker drivers said people will be sensible and just top up their tanks from time to time - half an hour later there were queues a mile long at every petrol station) I think that if that poster had ever been used the whole nation would have committed mass suicide.

xx Yay for panic buying  xx

I have to admit to being a tad disappointed that the petrol crisis never really got going.  I was looking forward to being unable to go anywhere unless on Shanks's pony (Shanks is very generous about loan of said beast). But because everyone went a bit mad and started panic buying at the Morrison's petrol station, I couldn't get past the queue to get onto the car park and do my grovery shopping. I was out of Pot Noodles completely.

I kept calm and carried on.  I made my own Pot Noodle from old bits of bank statement out of the shredder, a handful of hamster food and an oxo cube.   :P

My boss was telling me about the fact that one of his (six year old) daughter's hamsters died.  They spotted this late at night and put it in the garden so that the live hamster didn't have to share a cage with its deceased friend.  They were woken early the next morning by their daughter telling them that it was such a lovely day that the hamster had decided to get up early and sunbathe on the lawn.

Well, I hope nobody thinks that that little girl's hamster died as a result of eating my Dunkirk spirit make do and mend Pot Noodle. :) I promise you. It doesn't even contain nuts.

No, no - no blame being attached to your pot noodles.  From the telling of his story, there was a certain element of not keeping calm and carrying on once things had been made clear - maybe I should have mentioned your noodle solution as an example of how it should have been done?

We are a panic buying nation, drop of snow and the shelves are empty in the shops, a ray of sun and ice is double the price and sold out (this being particularly bad, ice being free and rather easy to make).. Petrol however is very much needed with kiddies ect and the prices are annoyingly high still, struggling to remember the days £10 lasted the week :/
