that is one spectacular picture. Why are they planning to decommision the Hobble telescope is beyond me. I hope they rethink the idea.

They're getting rid of Hubble?!!
They can't do that. I may be wrong, but to my knowledge, it's the only telescope positioned in orbit. It's the only place you can get a proper view of the stars and into space without all the interference from the polluted atmosphere and all the light produced from our civilisation.

I think it is something to do with the problems NASA were having. Something about maintenance being cost prohibitive.

Lessa, you're right about the cost of maintenance - and now the safety issues dogging the shuttle program pretty much drove the last nail in the Hubble's coffin, as servicing missions to the Hubble need the shuttle.

Such a shame as we've learnt more about the galaxy and the universe from Hubble in a few short years than we did over 1000s of years from the ground.
