Since the old topic was kind of getting a little big and was full of people who have deleted themselves and looked messy, I have decided to start a new topic.
Basically, all you got to do is reply to this topic and say what book you are reading at the moment. For the love of God, please do not be stupid and write things like "I am reading the TV guide" or "I am reading the forum". We don't want to know that!
Also, when posting, try and let others know who wrote the book instead of just writing the name of the book. If you have time, write a little description - it might get others interested!
I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This is the third time I have read it, and it needs no introduction! ;D
-
I am currently reading the book "Mossflower" by Brian Jaques. It is the follow up story after the book "Martin the Warrior" It's mainly about a land taken over by a tyrannical queen and how the dwellers of the forest fight back...Although it is a bit like the animals of farthing wood and watership down :P
-
I'm re-reading "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck, as a bit of revision before I go back to school.
-
God-Emperor of Dune, by Frank Herbert
-
I just finished Eragon, by Christopher Paolini, and Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. Cornelia Funke, if you didn't know, also wrote The Thief Lord and Inkheart. Two amazing books.

-
The Street Bible by Rob Lacy - it's really good :)

I am currently reading The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. I will not give too much away as there are many twists but the book is about a curator of a museum being found murdered surrounded by baffling codes which lead the characters on a journey through Da Vinci's artwork and the discovery of a secret society which unveils a truth that has been hidden for centuries. ENJOY
-
I have decided to re-read the Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn, starting with The Duke and I
-
I'm now reading book six of the Wheel of Time series, which is called 'Lord of Chaos'. The series is by Robert Jordan, and the books are set in a fantasy world :) It follows the lives of Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, Nynaeve, Elayne, and many other characters :)
-
I'm reading "The Hundred Days" By Patrick O'Brian - its one of the Jack Aubrey/ Stephan Maturin series on which the film "Master and Commander - the Far Side of the World" was based. The books are very very good and also historically accurate and just suck you into the lifestyle and times of the Napoleonic wars. The language is also true of that period with a lot of technical terms which make it a little hard to read at times but over all the books are fantastic!! If you liked Sharpe... ;D
-
I'm reading "How to Marry a Marquies" by Julia Quinn. Historical Romance - I love it. ;D
-
I'm reading A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers, a biography which is a definate change of pace for me, but I'm enjoying it a great deal...it's unbelivably tragic, it's ridiculously funny and for some strange reason, that combination really works for me. ::)
-
Im currently reading "It happened to Nancy" A true story of a girl who had aids. It is all her diary it is actually quite touching.
-
I'm reading "Brighter than the Sun" and I'm sure you can guess by now who it is by - Julia Quinn. I love her work ;D

I'm still reading The Neverending Story by Michael Ende... it's pretty good, better then I expected it :)
-
I tried that, totally confused me, it's like two books in one, and I just get confused by those sort of books.
-
yeah, true, it is like two stories in one book... I guess that's why two movies were made of it ::) But I don't mind that... it's not really different from having two books ::)
-
I'm reading FOTR for the umpteenth time. Golly gosh, can't remember the author though :-\ ::) :P
-
I'm reading Beachamp Besieged by Elaime Something-or-other ::)
-
The...Austere Academy (?) by Lemony Snicket.
But I'm really not in the mood for it, far too optimistic and generally cheery.
Eh. ???
I'm also in the middle of re-reading HP and the philosopher stone, which makes me a much happier piglet.
-
Im still reading both Sorceress by Celia Rees and The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman!
But I have been forced to read 'Its's ok, I'm wearing really big knickers' by Louise Rennison by my dearest friend Jemima, Who had the cheek to say I was like the main character Georgia! I would not go to a party dressed as a stuffed olive! ::)
-
I read 'De Tweeling' (The twins) at the moment. It a dutch book from Tessa De Loo and is about 2 twinsister who were seperated when they were 9 years old. Then when they are old again the meet again. One girl grew up in Nazi-Germany and the other in The Netherlands. They tell each other how they lived the war etc. It's a very very good book. I dont know if it's translated into english, but they made a film of it. It even had an Oscarnomination for 'Best Foreign Film' ;D
-
The Daring Duchess by Paula Marshall - Its a cheap romance novel. :P
-
I'm reading a couple of books, one of Jane Auel, in Dutch it's called 'de stam van de holenbeer', but I don't know how it's called in English, it's the first book in the series about Ayla... And I'm reading a biography on Madonna, and Kinderbesuch, and a book about Egypt...
-

~ I'm reading this fantastic book called Dragon Rider ~
~ This book is about a dragon (firedrake) who sets out with sorrel the brownie (a cat like creature) to find the rim of heaven the last place where dragons can live freely. They cross paths with ben (a human) and soon he joins them. But it's not that easy they have a cunning and vicious golden dragon hoping for them to lead him to the rim of heaven which he has been searching for to kill the last of the silver dragons.
This is a good book with some interesting ideas, if not a bit predictable. 9/10 :P ~
-

Yet again its a cheap Romance book I bought.

Still Howards End *screams* oh and The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky.
I loved Howards End but then again, I'm a sucker for old British novels...and The Brothers Karamazov...you have my sympathy :8o, the characters were fascinating and the story was compelling, but there is so much unecessary blathering going on, if Dostoevsky could've stayed a little more focused, I think it would've been a wonderful book.
I've been in something of a rereading frenzy, it started of with ROTK, then I zipped through FOTR, then I moved on to Mort by Terry Pratchett, I started rereading The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul by Douglas Adams, but I got distracted by The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy. Maybe when I'm done with that I'll read something new. ::)
-

The boy says it was a suicide pact that they made, and he was going to go next, but the police think otherwise, because the two kids have grown up together, and they never shown any signs of being suicidal. -
Forsyte Saga Volume One. It was recommended to me by Idril and I have to say that although initially I had reservations about it, I've really become intrigued with the characters, they are so tragic it's almost laughable ???

Reading THE STAND by Stephen King. It´s the uncut version of the one published in 1978.
It is really gripping, I must say. I am a huge fan of King, and when I read on the blurb that it was reputed to be his best I bought it at the drop opf a hat ;D
But I do warn, that in my opinion it is not King´s best novel. The first 50 or so pages tend to drag on with no real purpose other than building the key characters, which is a little tedious at times.
But after those bits, typical Stephen King genius seeps through and I´m engrossed!
It really is original, despite the overall base of the plot being a little clichéd.
I would reccommend it to any horror or King fan. I´m on the 672nd page, out of 1142 :o ;D :P
While I´m here, has anyone read "Tommyknockers" here? :-\ I´ve been wanting to read it for quite some time but first I´d like to have overview of it ;)
-
I've read the Stand too and thought it was an excellent book ;) I've read Tommyknockers but I wasn't that knocked out by it to be honest...his best has to be Pet Semetary in my opinion :)
Just finished Forsyte Saga volume 1 and starting on 'The Bad Mother's Handbook' which my hubby got me for Mother's day
-
A light little book called "The Pirates in an adventure with Scientists" by Gideon Defoe.
Bit like George McDonald Frasers "Pyrates" thinking about it.
-
I am now reading 'to kill a mockingbird' by Harper Lee again, but this time I am taking out useful quotes and sticking them up in random places around my house to try and remember them for my english lit exam! I do like the book so it makes it easier, if I despised the book, I would probably fail the exam.
-
I am currently reading 'Black Wizards' 2nd book in the moonshae trilogy by Douglas Niles  brilliant book! :P
-
Elenwe: Umm, I was thinking about reading Pet Cemetary awhile ago, I´ll see if I can pick it up when I get to the airport tomorrow ;)

-
I started reading Chocolat too, but put it down somewhere the other day and it's been tidied :8o Not sure where to ::)
Oh, that's a good book, much better than the movie, the ending isn't nearly as tidy but tidy endings are overrated. ::)
-
Just finished 'The Bad Mother's Handbook' by Kate Long. The title doesn't do this book justice, I expected a light hearted look at motherhood and instead found a story woven with issues about teenage pregnancy, Senile dementia, abuse and adoption. It's both funny and moving...a little gem.
David Eddings, Elder Gods

I love the Vampire Chronicles - have you reas all the others, too?
It is just such a pity that they end on such a strange note (Blood Canticle).
-
I've only got as far as The Vampire Armand...no money to buy the other ones... But I would be forever in your debt if you'd tell me what happens next, what becomes of the characters and stuff. Where does Lestat end up?...If this is not the place for such extensive reviews, maybe you could IM me to discuss some more on this.
Thanks.
-
I've just finished reading 'Ring' by Koji Suzuki - and that was really good. If you have seen 'Ringu' (Japanese version of The Ring) you will know what it's about. At the moment I am reading 'The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants' by Ann Brashares for the third time this year. Man, I love that book...it's about four girls who believe that this pair of jeans is magic...it's really funny! :D
-
I noticed by your name you'd either seen or read "Ring". ;)
I watched it a couple of weeks ago, and it is definitely better than the remake ::)
I saw the book in Waterstones quite some time ago, is it good? I mean, I know I like the movie but sometimes the books are just so more complex and gripping. ;D :D
-
Yeah, the book is very good. It's a little different from the film - I'm not gonna say what makes it different as that would be telling! LOL. If you enjoyed the film I would definetley recommend the book - I suppose it is more gripping - it explains more clearly about the whole Sadako-well-tape fiasco. I would try and get it to it and see what you think :)
-

-
We'll be studying it in english son, but I haven't read it yet.

-
Princess in Pink by Meg Cabot. Very funny books.
-
The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkein
-
The Tower On The Rift by Ian Irvine
(Volume 2 of The View From The Mirror)
Well ... it's a 4 book ... trilogy ... not sure what the correct term is, but that gets the message across.
Anyway, it's sort of a fantasy adventure with loads of characters to remember, and intertwined storylines, where on 1 of the 3 worlds around "The Void" war is raging, and some characters are fleeing for their lives, others have been taken capture and ... you know what? I don't actually know how to explain it without giving the storyline away without going on forever, so I'll stop here.
-
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, so far, I love it to bits.. ;D
-
Revenge of the Sith! ;D
-
Umm, I'll see if I can get Ring by book form next weekend ;D Fingers crossed and all that jazz!
I'm glad it explains more; not that I'm slow or thick :-\ but I do think the whole case of the tape and the reason Sadako does what she does etc etc is left a little bland for my taste ???
Can't wait to read it!
-

Erm, yes, the book is excellent. The only bad thing about it is that it's only 800 pages long. ::) It's one of those books that I dread finishing because I don't want it to end, but I can't put down. Evil authors...
-
Just FINISHED Revenge of the Sith!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm reading Dreamcatcher by Stephen King, the novel that inspired the film. I'm only on page 78 at the moment, but it is very good so far. The basic plot is these four guys met this retard as kids and he gave them powers, now they have to use those powers to stop this big alien. People who are infected have this red mark, which one of the characters mistakes for frostbite. My favourite character so far is Beaver, because he comes out with all these weird remarks and they get stuck in my head and I end up using them at school

iv just started reading The Bitterbynde Book 2, 'The Lady of the Sorrows' by Cecilia Dart-Thornton. Its really good. Its a fantasy, similar to lotr. It was reviewed as 'not since tolkiens trilogy fell into my hands have i been so impressed by a beautifully spun fantasy' and 'hobbits fancers will find much to delight them'.
anyone else read any of this trilogy?
-
I'm reading The Redemption of Althalus by David Eddings. I've read about the first 100 pages and it's really great so far. I son't think it's as good as his Belgariad/Mallorean series, but then I shouldn't really judge it til I've finished it. Excellent book though! :D

I'm reading Beauty by Robin McKinley. My friend gave it to me to read, and she's reading one of mine that I loved (I'm always trying to get my friends into my obsessions, and they always end up roping me into theirs instead). My friend made me read another book by Robin McKinley a while ago called the Hero and the Crown. I didn't really enjoy it, so I'm not sure about this one either. It's kind of like Beauty and the Beast with a twist. But so far it's okay :)

-
I just finished reading The Tower On The Rift by Ian Irvine, and am going to start on Dark Is The Moon which is the next one in the series.
For the one that I just read, twas good. I thought that the ending let it down a bit, but it carries on from one book to another, so I shouldn't really expect a proper outcoming at this stage, what with another two books to read. However, it has kept me entertained, and now I'm curious to find out what happens, especially seeing as though it has built up an air of mystery surrounding one character in particular, but won't tell me what at this stage
-
Talking in Whispers by James Watson.
I've only just started reading it, and I don't quite know what it's all about, but what I've read so faris about this called Andres whose dad has been taken away by the Chile police and he is off to find him or something like that. He walks along this road in the night and a van drives past with Beto and Isa inside. They're twins and they run this "business" where they put on puppet shows for the public and stuff. Beto and Isa take Andres to wherever it is and thats all I've read...though it's really good.

-
The Beach - Alex Garland
I haven't seen the film, so all I know is what I've read, and what blurb said. Tis about a backpacker being given a map, by Daffy Duck, to a secret beach where life is supposedly perfect and kept away from all of the outside world. Most people I suppose will already know about it, but I haven't got that far into it yet.

Now I'm reading a book called dragonspell. So far I think it's pretty good. It's about a girl who has the ability to find dragon eggs and is very hard without that power. So far that's all I know, and now she's going to try and help these other to people in stopping an evil wizard, whose name I can't remember. There are seven high races and she was a slve set partially free.

Almost finished "Spies" By Michael Frayn for college now. It's okay, but it wasn't interesting enough for my liking. It is based around this boy (Stephan) and his friend (Keith) during WWII who discover that Keiths mother is a German Spy, and its basically about them spying on her.
I'm also reading Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, so far it's pretty good. I want to finish it in time to watch the new film version but that looks unlikely as i'm going to see it Saturday. :P

-
The series of unfortunate events no.6 - lemony snicket
Oh oh oh....are they any good?
I keep thinking I might read them (or buy them for my little sister and thennnn read them). But the energy required to order them each individually from the library, or buy them all is enormous! So I want to know whether it's worth it.

True ;)
I think then I'm gonna start trying to do what Christopher Lee does and ... attempt to read them once a year... it must get easier that way!
-
I first read lotr in 1980 and have read it every year since. Each time I read it I see something else or interpret something in a different way as I have more experience of life. The book is always fresh unlike some things which you can on;y ever read once.

Is that the one from the film Labyrinth with David Bowie?

Yupyup, it's pretty good, so far, I'm only on the second chapter.

-
he self harmed?!....guess it goes well with the character...

I'm reading Thorn Birds at the moment, one of my mum's really old books. I couldn't be bothered going down to the library, especially when they're running drastically low on good books that I haven't read (and when I say good books, they also have to have pretty covers).

Road To Nab End_William Woodruff
From his birth in 1916 (in the carding-room of a cotton mill) until he ran away to London, William Woodruff lived in extreme poverty in the heart of Blackburn’s weaving community. The Road to Nab End is the wonderful telling of these childhood years: of his granmother who lectured on the importance of ‘laming’, his father, who had ‘t’ stuffing knocked out of him’ by the war, and a host of remarkable characters from a truly sadistic nun to the rector who had an unfortunate meeting with a lion at Skegness Fair. It is an autobiography brimming with anecdote, and, above all, a story of human triumph against the odds.
found this book in a charity shop and it caught my imagination. :) :) :)
-
Currently Readin DragonKnight and The Witch's Boy
DragonKNight:Third book in the series; quite excellent. Mostly about a guy named barton who is a halfbreed and needs to help these people on a quest, which he's finding very annoying. Hasn't said anything at all about the main character, Kale, from the last two yet ???.....
The Witch's Boy:About a mishapen child that a witch finds and raises....havn't gotten to far into it yet.
-
undead and unappreciated by mary janice davidson - chick lit meets horror, very funny
normally would be reading anne rice, stephen king or dean koontz
-
Highgate Rise by Anne Perry
-
Nora Roberts - Morrigans Cross
I haven't read any of Nora's before, but this one is about vampires, which I have an interest in, a work colleague told me about it and subsequently lent it to me...not too far into it yet, but it's going ok...
-
Reading Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding. I really like it! Very funny... :P
-
Ok I have finished Morrigans Crossing, finished the second one, Dance of the Gods and have just started the third one Valley of Silence (it's a trilogy). They are so good! Recommended :D
-
The Virgin Suicides By Jeffery Eugenides.
Quite depressing, but also 'darkly' funny in places.
-
Currently almost done with Stephen King's Lisey's Story.
I was a little amazed by it, it wasn't what I expected. It gracefully tells the story of how a marriage grows and lives between two people while still being Stephen King and having that 'twist' to it, something extra that only he can give.
I didn't think I would like it because on the surface it seems tamer than I would usually read but that is not truly the story line.
-
Currently reading Pet Sematary by our beloved Stephen King :D and loving every second of it!
-
First King of Shannara by Terry Brooks
-
The Ascent of Everest by John Hunt. Recently I've also read Is it Just Me or is Everything Shít?, The Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson and The Dangerous Book for Boys.
I'm going to make it my mission in 2007 to read more "classics".
-
I'm currently re-reading Pride & Prejudice <3
-
Last book I read was the Day of the Triffids, by john Wyndham, Just as brilliant as i remembered it.
Now I am currently attempting to read Prowlers by Christopher golden. Its kind of weird, and I think its gonna take me some time to get into it. :-\
-
Anvil of Stars- by Greg Bear.
Its the sequel to Forge of God... very trippy, a little creepy- but not bad- I'm just afraid of aliens, so it scared me. (don't laugh!)
-
The Blair Years, Extracts from the Alistair Campbell Diaries.
-
Queen of the Damned - Anne Rice
-

-
The Hobbit or There and back again
-
Just read Harry Potter and the half blood prince in a day and a half ready for the new one this weekend :D

I got my Potter yesterday and I've been TRYING to sit and read it as much as I could! Its frustrating to have to run errands and cook dinner and all that garbage- I just want to hole up and read!
-
It's October so I'm reading Poe and Lovecraft. >:(
-
I'm re-reading Elizabeth Moon's Serrano series and I'm then going to work my way back throug her Vatta series. Just finished scampering through Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan series and I'm missing the little guy :-\
-
So would you recommend it then Anne?
I have just finished reading the The Farseer Trilogy and I must say it drove me mad! The main character was so frustrating, but you know what its like you have to follow it all through dont you?
So I really didnt enjoy those books and will not again read anything by Robin Hobb.
-
Military scifi rather than fantasy, but, yes, I'd recommend them. Lois McMaster Bujold in particular writes very intelligently and has a good range.
Not tried Robin Hobb myself, although I think middle son has one. The fact that middle son only has one is a good indication that they are not worth persuing. Middle son has far more time than I do at present (only having GCSEs to worry about) so most of our scifi/fantasy books are currently lurking in his room somewhere and he is more than happy to offer recommendations.
-
Just finished Tess of the D'Ubervilles, was brilliant but very tragic
-
I tried Rachel Neumeir's Lord of the Changing Winds whilst on holiday and got hooked. It's the first part of a trilogy so I'm looking forward to buying the next two now.
-
I'm re-reading some Andre Norton - this particular book I bought in a secondhand shop many years ago and was obviously printed in the '60s - VERY loud cover
-
Middle son bought me a Raymond Feist book for Christmas - quite enjoyed it but he does seem to like jumping four years in a paragraph from time to time which confused me. Mind you, I'm easily confused ...
-
I have an addiction to Lesley Pearse books at the moment.
I've just finished reading 'Secrets' and 'Rosie' and about to start 'Remember Me'
I can also recommend 'Belle' 'The Promise' and 'Survivor' (a trilogy) 'Gypsy' and 'Stolen' love them all!
-
I've just started reading "Capital Crimes: Seven Centuries of London Life and Murder" by Max Décharné .
I'm fascinated by history and England's history of capital punishment.
-
I'm reading a series by Jonathan Stroud, just finished the Golemeye, now moving onto the next one!!
