I know we used to have a topic about this, but I cant find it! Soooo I thought it'd be useful to keep all we find out about the Extended Edition in one place!
Ive read several sites and articles, and as usual TORN offers the most complete synopsis :) Some of which, of course, is supposition..... (Courtesy of Datacomm and transalated by those at TORN :))
A beautiful scene, before the two hobbits, guided by Gollum, walk on… The hobbits catch sight of a huge monument and statues. Up to this scene the sky wasn't edit digitally… from now on it's getting darker and darker … a cursed environment. In this scene you see the title of the movie "The Return of the King"
- Saruman's disempowerment:
Saruman's last dialog with Gandalf, Theoden and the others will only be seen on the SEE. Saruman is going to appear on the balcony, trying to bewitch the fellowship one last time by talking to them. But Gandalf breaks Saruman's wand. After that Wormtongue and Saruman appear on the roof of the Orthanc. Saruman treats his servant like a dog and threatens him with a knife. But Wormtongue fights back, grabs the knife and throws Saruman from the Orthanc. His own weapons pierce Saruman and Legolas kills Wormtongue with one of his arrows.
- Edoras: Merry's vow of fidelity:
During the whole movie Merry serves the King, Theoden. But why? Like it was shown in the first teaser of the trilogy: the king dubs Merry knight of Rohan. Merry offers his services and Theoden accepts and hands him a sword.
Dialogue:
"I offer you my service, King Theoden" Merry is given a knighthood.
- Edoras: Dialogue between Eowyn and Eomer concerning Merry:
Like we have seen in the cinema version, Eomer can't believe that Merry is able to take part in a battle. There will be a typical brother-sister scene on the SEE, concerning this topic. The existence of such a scene is confirmed by a "making off video", because Peter Jackson mentions a "Brother and Sister" moment.
- Edoras: A "drinking game" during the celebration:
After the success in Isengard, Aragorn, Merry, Gimli, Theoden and the others go to Edoras. There will be some new elements in the scene were both hobbits dance on the table while Gandalf talks to Aragorn about Frodo... the SEE will show another funny scene (which isn't in the book) . Legolas and Gimli play a drinking game...
Dialogue:
Legolas: "So, it's a drinking game?"
Laughing and screaming of the others
Legolas: "What exactly is the point of it?"
Gimli: "Last one standing wins."
- Edoras: Extended discussion:
In Edoras Aragorn and Gandalf talk about their proceeding. There will be more dialogues than in the cinema version.
Dialogue:
Gandalf: "If the ring is destroyed, Sauron will fall and his fall will be so low that none will see his arising ever again… but if Sauron regains the ring, his victory will be swift and complete. Things are now in motion that cannot be undone. Sauron has looked into the face of young Peregrin Took and mistaken him for the Ringbearer".
Aragorn: "He has gone unchallenged long enough."
Merry says good bye to Pippin, who seems to be very sad. Merry bolsters Pippin and tells him that they will see each other in the shire. As far as I know, a new scene replaced this one. We won't see this dialogue on the SEE and we won't hear the sentence "We shall see the Shire again."
- Edoras: Extended Farewell:
After Gandalf and Pippin left, Aragorn tells Merry, that Pippin will only be save at Minas Tirith, because Saruman thinks he is the ring bearer. That's why Gandalf has to bring him away. In the cinema version, Aragorn doesn't say anything. Before Pippin leaves Edoras, Aragorn gives him back his elven leaf brooch.
The scenes between Arwen and Elrond in Rivendell will be longer. As seen on the trailer, Elrond tells his daughter that he is not able to protect her anymore. There is another scene where Arwen falls into her fathers’ arms. Is there a connection between this and the paths of dead she discovers in her book? Arwen will also say some more words in the language of the elves.
Dialogue:
Elrond to Arwen on the bridge: "You have given away your life’s grace. I cannot protect you anymore"
These two dialogues are not in the cinema version: Arwen says: "Give him the sword of the King"
Elrond: "The enemy will never let Aragorn come to the throne of Gondor."
- Extended Paths of the dead:
There is supposed to be a corridor in the cave, full of skulls and bones on the floor and left and right in the walls. At one point Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas will be threatened by an avalanche of skulls. After leaving the cage there has to happen something else, because Aragorn’s sword looks bloody. Legolas is also supposed to have some more sentences.
- Legolas will kill Peter Jackson, who supposed to have a cameo appearance as a corsair captain.
In the cinema version you only see a little bit of the paths of the dead, no skulls, no altars, no bloody sword, no corsair ships. I am sure they will be shown here, because Gandalf talks about them twice.
After the paths of the dead Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn board the ships and conquer the corsairs. But which scenes do we see on these two pictures? Which scenes will be shown on the SEE? Do we see how they board the ships? Yes, but without the ghosts, because they will appear later, as a surprise, on in the Pelennor Fields.
- Minas Tirith: Longer dialogue between Faramir and Denethor:
Faramir is supposed to tell his father that he did let Frodo and Sam escape (with the ring) on purpose, breaking his father's rules.
While Pippin talks to Denethor, Faramir stands at his side. Shortly after that Denethir announces that those who break the rules have to be punished. A hint that Faramir really told him about the hobbits? A script section asserts that there will be a flashback, where Faramir tells his father about Boromirs death and hands him the broken horn. In another scene Pippin is going to get an armor from Faramir.
-
We might see a scene where an Orc is able to flee from the tower (you see this Orc in the Video Game holding Frodo’s Mithril chain mail) There are also some scenes where Orcs and Uruks fight with each other because of this alb.
- Siege of Minas Tirith: Extended battle scenes
In the cinema version they didn't show how the enemy built up its war machinery. They also don't show how the White City is conquered. The enemy tries to destroy the gates with small battering rams. These weren't shown in the movie, but they will be on the SEE DVD. Soldiers of Gondor try to prevent this with the help of their arrows. They won't show how they draw their bows, but we will see how they shoot their arrows.
- Siege of Minas Tirith: Gandalf vs. Witchking
In the movie the witchking said that he would fight the White Wizard … who suddenly doesn't have his wand anymore….
Pippin finally found Gandalf and managed to calm down the mad Denethor. The wizard carries his wand. He puts Pippin on the back of his horse - but when he reaches Denethor he doesn't have his wand anymore and looks like he has just taken part in a fight. In between those scenes it is likely that they meet the Witchking and Gandalf loses the fight, but the Witchking is distracted by something - that's why Gandalf and Pippin are able to flee… he might be distracted by the troops of Rohan (he probably hears the horns) or by something else … who knows… it is likely that he wouldn't stay on his beast during the fight and that Gandalf wouldn't fight on the back of his horse. The scene was filmed with a normal Nazgul first and later with the Witchking.
- Battle on the Pelennor Fields: extended battle scenes:
It is said that we will see more digital effects on the SEE DVD, also the sky is supposed to be darkened. There are different possibilities what we will see during these battle scenes: it's possible that we will see more of the Eastlings, a longer dialogue between Eowyn and the Witchking, a scene where Argorn wins the fight against Orc leader and Gimli hits him with his axe. Orcs are also supposed to fight on the dead Olifants and after Theoden's death Eowyn will fight some more Orcs, protecting Pippin, who will find Merry later on.
- Pelennor-Fields: Locating Eowyn and Merry
Eowyn was brave, defeated the witchking and was injured. We didn't see what happened afterwards. But somehow they must have found her, mourned and acclaimed her. On this picture we see how Eomer finds his sister on the battlefield.
- Minas Tirith: After the battle
After the battle on the fields Aragorn is the only one who can help the wounded Faramir, Eowyn and Merry and save their lives. Only the healing hands of the king can save them. Afterwards Faramir and Eowyn get closer.
- Minas Tirith: Aragorn as king
After healing Faramir, Eowyn and Merry, Aragorn is already accepted as king. After that he takes up his role as king and only during the next day they discuss the next proceedings. Gandalf at the meeting in Minas Tirith: "Either Frodo destroys the ring, or we face Sauron’s victory."
- Minas Tirith: Aragorn looks into the Palantir
After some discussions Aragorn decides to look into the Palantir, to show Sauron that Isildur's heir is found. King Elessar could bring together mankind. That's what Sauron fears and that's what should distract him from Frodo and Sam. Sauron and his army wait for Elessar at the gate….
- At the Black Gate: Sauron's Mouth
One of the most dreadful myrmidon in the book. A scene a lot of book fans hoped to see in the movie: cruel, full of emotions, and ingenious. The Mouth Saurons, Saurons negotiator. There is a slight chance that we see this horrible creature on the SEE DVD. Probably in the last fight with Aragorn. Some people say you can see Frodo’s Mithril chain mail lying on the floor in the cinema version.. another hint, that we might see such a scene…
Theory1:
The Mouth of Sauron shows this chain mail to Gandalf and Aragorn, as a proof, that Frodo is dead. After that we will see a long dialogue between Gandalf, Aragorn and Saurons Mouth.. after that the black rider disappears and the Black Gate is opened, the enemy starts to march. We will see some scenes of Frodo and Sam before we return to the Black Gate, where the enemies surround Aragron and his troops. The Mouth of Sauron reappears and starts an attack.. Aragorn fights against him and wins but loses his horse to the Eastlings. Another cut to Sam, this time he fights against Gollum and tells him to beat it. Back at the Black Gate the Eastlings are beaten. Aragorn forms up his troops and then we hear the famous sentence: "For Frodo!"
Theory2:
Nobody knows if this is correct, because you don't see the body of Saurons Mouth, Aragorn’s dead horse or the bodies of the Eastlings … besides when Aragorn and his troops approach the Black Gate, his sword is in his scabbard. As he rides back, his bloody sword is in his hand and his face is full of mud. A hint that Saurons Mouth is killed at the beginning and the fact of the missing horses is just a blooper? However the book "Lord of the rings - Weapons and Warfare" hints at Saurons Mouth death (or defeat).
However, it's pretty sure that we will see some enhancements here. Ex. in a making off video you see that Gandalf is talking to Aragorn before they ride towards the Black Gate: "We are being watched". It's possible that is a scene from the SEE DVD … or that we won't see this at all?
After Frodo’s pretended death we will see some more things. Sam is going to hold Sting, both hobbits will take off their armors….and Sam leaves behind his pans. At the end both hobbits meet an Orc army, but because they don't have the armors anymore they are not recognized.
- Minas Tirith: Marriages and the new tree
Gandalf shows Pippin the tree in Minas Tirith who starts to bloom again. And we might see the wedding between Arwen and Aragorn and Faramir and Eowyn - I don't believe it - however both scenes were filmed. We might also see how Eomer is crowned king of Rohan. Only after that scene the characters will say good bye to each other.
Galadriel is supposed to hold an epilogue at the end, in which she explains what happens to the characters, because they don't want to show all the scenes in the movie… it's possible, because she also holds an epilogue at the beginning of the first movie.
Back in the Shire:
I am sure we will see more scenes when the hobbits return to the Shire …. because New Line Cinema wanted to keep these photos secret and the scene isn't in the cinema version. Perhaps we get to know why Frodo decides to leave the Shire and sail away with the ring bearers.
check out this site (http://www.rotk-see.de.vu/) if you want EVEN more ;D ;D

Oooh excellent pictures! Are there anymore doing the rounds?
So are we gonna place bets on who will win their competition? My bet's on Gimli. The way Legolas is looking at the ale in those pictures, I imagine he might be a bit of a lightweight :P
-
awww Excellent Pics Sirith!! found any more ???
-
Im the hobbit it siad elves didnt get drunk easily, so leggy might win. The drinking game will be funny, whoever wins. ;D
-
I sure do hope that they do include TMOS! He were me favourite char in the book. Dunno why like, just liked him i guess. He was so cool, yet so evil.
-
I'm really keen to see the "Voice of Saruman" bits, even though slightly changed. I can only IMAGINE how Christopher Lee will chew up some scenery there. :)
No more new Sméagol bits then? *pout*
-
Does anybody have any idea's as to what statue we'll be getting this time?
How about a Sam carrying Frodo over his shoulder? :)
-
I think maybe Legolas will get one over on Gimli and win the drinking game, much to Gimli's suprise!
As for the statue, how about each side of The Black Gate? Or even two halves of Minas Tirith?
-
yeah ! but elves cant take their drink! theyre not even supposed to like it! (must be a rogue gene I have ;) LOL)
the only rumours Ive heard is that its something to do with Aragorn... re the statuette.... but they are only rumours, and old ones at that!
-
I can't wait to see that drinking scene and the Houses of Healing as well, coz that was vry funny in the books!!! ;D
-
I think that The Mouth of Sauron wil definately be in there as In LOTR Weapons and Warefare, he has a page, it shows his armour and weapon and helmet.
-
aww yeah! Id forgotten that!
heres a pic of it!

Pelennor-Fields: Locating Eowyn and Merry
Eowyn was brave, defeated the witchking and was injured. We didn't see what happened afterwards. But somehow they must have found her, mourned and acclaimed her. On this picture we see how Eomer finds his sister on the battlefield.D
I saw a programme on ITV (I think it was ITV) a couple of weeks ago called 'Film makers Journey', it was about an hour long and it was a behind the scenes documentary. We glimpsed a couple of extra clips that weren't in the original ROTK cinema release and one part was Eomer standing on the battlefield looking absolutely heartbroken. The clip was all of a couple of sconds long but the sheer emotion on his face was breathtaking! :o Did anyone else see this? I can't wait for the extended dvd! ;D

His emotions are overpowering. Really amazing acting.
-
Yeah! That's it! Thanks hon :)
Heartwrenching isn't it :(
-
There are a load of really fantastic scenes (including that one) in the full-length film trailer. I watched it about 50 times wen i was waiting for rotk to come out in cinemas, because it was really moving. :)
-
I was hyper off the trailer from October to December 2003 because It looked so amazing...thankfully it was :D
Didn't Gamling die or something..not in the trailer...just generally? :P No..that was just a rumor I think. I cant remember if it was in the book.
-_-;
-
Gamling died in TTT.... he got eaten by a Warg :o
-
@_@;; okaaay...
-
Well, regardless of what is in the EE, I cannot wait for it to come out. I can barely wait for Tuesday.
-
the EE isnt out until Christmas time... its just the standard theatrical one on Tuesday... not that that isnt good! Coz we'll still get the extras on the extra DVD ;D
-
In one of the documentaries on the DVD (I think it's the National Geographic one) you can see what I think is basically the whole drinking game scene with Legolas and Gimli, which is hoing to be in the EE. It's really funny!!! ;D
-
Gamling died in TTT.... he got eaten by a Warg :o
Was it Gamling? I thought it was Hama that got killed by the Warg? :-\
Isn't Gamling with the Ride of the Rohirrim at the Pelenor Fields in ROTK? :-\
Or am I completely confused? ;D
-
I think it was Hama who got killed by the warg, unless in RotK Theoden decided he was gonna start calling Hama Gamling just for the fun of it... :P ;) ;D
-
Yeah, it was Hama that got eaten. I remember, because he was younger looking than Gamling.
-
Gamling died in TTT.... he got eaten by a Warg :o
OK! Im embarrassed now :-[ having just watched ROTK again... Im completely wrong!
Gamling it looks died on the Pelennor Fields, coz we see him ride into battle, but hes not at the Battle of the Black Gate!
Sorry :(
If my memory serves me correct (hopefully it will this time!) it was Hama who was eaten by a warg...
-
Well I think its easy to get mixed up, seeing as TTT film was completely different from the book....but I won't get started on that..... ::) ;D
-
....but I won't get started on that..... ::) ;D
Omg no I could go on forever about that!!! Actually, one person I really wanted to see in RotK was Prince Imrahil, but he's not flippin there!!!!!!! >:( I would've liked to see him, coz I've always thought of him as sort of a blonde Aragorn minus the stubble. :-[ ;D
-
it was hama that got eaten. you should know that EG. remember in the poen theodon says "how did it come to this" theodon said "who am i gamling?"" remember now!
-
yes! I did remember
-
Actually I didn't even think it was Hama but a random Rohirrim who was riding with Hama. Could be wrong though, they all look the same to me! ??? ::) :P
-
Comingsoon.net have just reported that the EE will be released in DECEMBER and not November like the other two!
Who's thinking theyre planning on a Christmas present surge ::)
http://www.comingsoon.net/news.php?id=5066
Im sure Ive posted this link somewhere too! but its worth a read about why the EE isnt going to be released until then :)
http://www.theonering.net/features/interviews/mattlasorsa.html
news on the content of the Special EE so far is that, there have been four commentary clips made. Like there were in the FOTR, 2 and more in TTT.... on the SEE, there will be four :)
-
D-D-December?*cries* That long? I thought November was bad!!! What day in December? Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be like at Christmas or something and I won't have to chalk up the money to buy it ;D
-
Play.com is still saying its being released in November I wish they would give us correct details I sometimes wander if they even know them selves
-
it was hama that got eaten. you should know that EG. remember in the poen theodon says "how did it come to this" theodon said "who am i gamling?"" remember now!
Actually -
"In a grave alone under the shadow of the Hornburg lay Hama, captain of the King's guard. He fell before the Gate."
-
Yeah, but that was in the book. Seeing as TTT movie was nearly completely different, I am pretty sure that Hama did die at the Warg skirmish scene.
-
....but I won't get started on that..... ::) ;D
Omg no I could go on forever about that!!! Actually, one person I really wanted to see in RotK was Prince Imrahil, but he's not flippin there!!!!!!! >:( I would've liked to see him, coz I've always thought of him as sort of a blonde Aragorn minus the stubble. :-[ ;D
(http://img36.photobucket.com/albums/v108/Lyrick/LOTREN08037.jpg)
i found a card w/him on it! :P
-
yeah!
that pic is in the New Pics topic
Its not anything like the person I imagined... and its actually one of the Gondorians in Minas Tirth :o
-
He's too young! He's supposed to be Faramir and Boromir's uncle, he looks younger than Faramir and he's a little too swarthy, despite the blond hair. Not at all what I imagined. ???
-
Yeah I thought that when I found out that was him. I always imagined him really fair and Elf-like, seeing as he was descended from them! ::) That guy is far too ugly! :-X
-
I watched RotK last night and picked him out and he could have just been another Gondorian captain or something. I don't think his name was said once and no indication was given that he wasn't from Minas Tirith! >:(
-
Latest rumours have it that the EE will be premiering at the ComicCon on 23rd July in........... San Diego!!
see typical! Americans always get all the fun ::)
*grumbles about not being fair* :(
[edit]
turned out not to be true! ;D
-
latest rumours suggest that the EE of ROTK will be in cinemas as early as October! before it is released on DVD!
-
I heard that too! God, they must be raking in tons of cash from this cinema-before-dvd scam. If it does, I'll probably see it twice before the DVD. What I'm irritated about is that the Mouth of Sauron is killed by Aragorn when they get the mithril coat etc. Not only is this a disgrace to Tolkien's book (as was Osgiliath and Frodo bit), but there is no way that the Mouth of Sauron could be killed by Aragorn! >:(
Aragorn could only just take on the witch-king, and would still lose if one-on-one with him, both armed only with swords. And the witch-king was just a numenorean king - TMOS was descended the last king of Gondor - completely pure-blood and stronger (a less-watered down version of Aragorn). Not only this, but he is armed with the four dwarf-rings that Sauron had. And in the book it said that he was going to be the leader of Sauron's armies - replacing the witch-king as the best boss. Aragorn couldn't beat him!!!
-
I cannot wait for the ROTK EE! Its going to be so good. When is it, that it comes out again? Does anyone have an exact date?
-
latest rumours have it at 14th December
but it may come out in October in the cinemas :o
-
(http://img36.photobucket.com/albums/v108/Lyrick/LOTREN08037.jpg)
That's not Imrahil! That's Irolas! (He's listed as that in the Credits anyway.) And I'm not mistaking him for Iorlas from the cards as well. His name is Irolas, not Imrahil. He was originally meant to be Beregond, and Bergil was to be in the film to, but they cut Beregond and Bergil out and replaced them with Irolas.
-
damm, damm, damm, i wanted the rotk to be out sooner then december, i cant wait till then >:(, i do hope they release it sooner rather then the date given ;)
-
Ah but it will make one hell of a christmas time ;D lol
-
But think of the crazyness of people buying it in time for christmas. I think the need to pre-order might be in order, just so i know i have one waiting! :)

I went on Amazon and it said that it comes out on 10th December-but I dont think any1 is absolutely sure the date it's going to be released. I am really gonna bug my family to get it for me for xmas. I am really looking forward to it.
-
*sigh* well someone won't be getting a bbrilliant xmas present from me - I'll by buying that instead! ;)
And we always knew there would be changes from the books; it's annoying, offensive and yada yada, but it's done, and it's not as if we can change it! (I'm sympathising but ohh-welling here....)

-
The release date will be officially announced in 2/3 weeks by Newline :)
-
hooray, been wondering who kills gothmog the pink orc/pig combo with attitude....and now we know

so how does the mouth of sauron get killed in the book?
-
he most probably doesnt die!
-
did anyone think that the *mouth* part of mouth of sauron was more....erm........metaphorical
-
hooray, been wondering who kills gothmog the pink orc/pig combo with attitude....and now we know
Yeah, i thought that he got crushed from the charging Rohirrim, but at least we know what really happens to him now. ;)
-
Does the orc with a skull on his head have a name? And how do Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn get their horses back if they fled from the Paths of the Dead?
-
In the book they blindfold the horses and walk them through so that they can move fast once through the mountain.
Lessa
-
did anyone think that the *mouth* part of mouth of sauron was more....erm........metaphorical
Yes, I did, I really didn't think it meant that he necessarily he had a set of nasty, sharp, very large teeth. ::)
-
Does the orc with a skull on his head have a name? And how do Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn get their horses back if they fled from the Paths of the Dead?
in the film, how do you know they did ??? did they get the same horses back ???
-
Don't know. I just want to know what old skull orc is called before Aragorn makes mince meat of him.
-
according to this site (http://www.moviemistakes.com/film2746/trivia)
he's called ... wait for it.... Skully ! ::)
While Gothmog is the only Orc identified in the film, here are the names of those un-named ones who appeared in it: a) Skully: he is Gothmog's lieutenant (the one wearing a skull on his headpiece); b) Gorbag: the large Orc in Cirith Ungol that holds Frodo's mithril shirt; c) Shagrat: the shorter Orc in Cirith Ungol that fought against Gorbag for the mithril shirt; d) Snaga: the Orc from Cirith Ungol who tried to kill Frodo.
I actually dont think he had a name... I listened to a talk by Gina of Weta Workshop at the Fellowship Festival and they did talk about him and why his head gear was different... something PJ wanted was for him to wear skulls on his head! PJ is a big fan of the old movies.... Gothmog was deliberately modelled on the elephant man! but they never mentioned that he had a name, whereas they did mention other orcs who had names :-\
-
Thank you!
-
rollon december / november wnenever it is eventually gonna be. makes more sense with the added scenes and i NEED to see them. wow 3 lotr xmas's then .... nothing! i think im gonna cry :(
-

Dragon*Con 2004: TORn Staff Previews ROTK Extended Edition
Xoanon @ 5:25 pm EST
Celebriel reports that one must-attend session for Ringers at Dragon*Con 2004 was The Road Goes Ever Onward, a preview of The Return of the King Extended Edition presented by staffers Balin, Jincey, and Mr. Cere on Saturday and Monday.
SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers related to the content in the 50 minutes of footage added to the theatrical version. If you want to be surprised when you insert that first disc into your DVD player, READ NO FURTHER!
Additional scenes expected to appear in the Extended Edition are:
1. The long-awaited confrontation with Saruman at Orthanc which was cut from the theatrical edition. At the end of this confrontation, Saruman is killed by Gryma, who pushes him, causing him to fall and impale himself on a spiky wheel. (An image of Saruman impaled has been floating around for a few years). This scene is an homage to Christopher Lee, who has appeared in numerous Dracula and other horror films in his long career, dating back to 1948.
2. Gryma’s death. Legolas shoots Gryma at Orthanc.
3. Merry swearing allegiance to King Theoden. Merry’s role is expanded in several scenes in the Extended Edition.
4. A scene between Aragorn and Eowyn, in her bedroom at Edoras. Many people seeing this image on the Internet believed it was set in the Houses of Healing
5. A drinking game at Edoras involving Legolas and Gimli.
6. A conversation between Eomer and Eowyn that gives us insight into their relationship.
7. Aragorn explains Pippin’s flight.
8. A cbonversation etween Elrond and Arwen , again giving us insight into their relationship.
9. Footage of Aragorn with the palantir.
10. Much more footage from the journey through the Paths of the Dead. In one spectacular scene, skulls rain down on Aragorn. Aragorn leaves the Kingdom of the Dead without an answer to his question, “What say you?”
11. Legolas consoles Aragorn after they leave the Paths of the Dead, placing his hand on Aragorn’s shoulder. (This image has also been floating around for a few years, and has been the subject of caption contests.)
12. There is much more background on the black ships of the Corsairs. The Army of the Dead arrive and conquer the Corsairs. Look closely and you will see a lot of cast and WETA production crew members in these fight scenes. (Remember that Peter Jackson’s cameo in the theatrical version was as a Corsair.)
13. Expanded conversation between Gandalf and Pippin in Minas Tirith, including Gandalf’s explanation of significance of The White Tree.
14. A conversation between Pippin and Faramir.
15. Expanded treatment of the Siege of Gondor (could this get any bigger?) including more battering rams, more Orcish machinery, and more about the defense and taking of the White City. More decapitated heads are launched from catapults. Oliphants charge into the walls of Minas Tirith.
16. The long-awaited encounter between Gandalf and the Witch King. The Witch King’s sword bursts into flame. Gandalf’s staff is broken. Gandalf is shown rescuing Faramir.
17. Eomer finds Theoden dead on the battlefield, then finds the wounded Eowyn. He is overcome with grief.
18. Pippin finds Merry on the battlefield at night, after a day-long search. A much longer scene than in the theatrical edition.
19. Gorbag is shown taking Frodo’s possessions from him.
20. In the Houses of Healing, Eomer and Aragorn talk.
21. Aragorn is shown walking in the throne room in Minas Tirith.
22. More footage of Frodo and Sam in Mordor, including their marching with orcs and Sam discarding his pots and pans.
23. The long-waited Mouth of Sauron comes out of the Gates of Mordor to confront Aragorn and his forces, displaying the items taken from Frodo. The Mouth character is blind, just a mouth. (This presence of this scene helps explain Aragorn’s battle cry, “For Frodo!”)
24. Merry and Pippin despair on the battlefield after seeing Frodo’s clothes and mithril vest.
Overall, as TORn staffers pointed out, the additional scenes bring the film even closer to the book. Many deal with character development, or help explain or set up actions taken by characters, although both the Siege of Gondor and the battle with the Corsairs get more action scenes.
Other rumors:
TORn staffers also reported that the ROTK Extended Edition may, repeat MAY, play theatrically during or close to Thanksgiving weekend. Also, that there is a possibility of another set of DVDs with additional footage in 2006 or 2007, but the films themselves will not be recut. The possibilities are endless, given that about 12 MILLION feet of documentary footage was shot.

ooh ooh ooh! looky looky looky Aragorn looking into the Palantir.
I really cant WAIT for this to come out, I wonder if we get to see him wrest the Palantir from Sauron then! :o
I hope so.
Thanks EG, keep em coming wont you? ;)
-
It looks like the Royal Chamber in the House of Kings, either there or the ground floor of the Tower of Ecthelion. It definitely doesn't look like a Rohirrim location, or an area in Helm's Deep (where Aragorn uses it in the book). I've seen an image of Aragorn holding the Palantir in it's bundle of cloth, so we can assume that this is the stone of Orthanc, but we still haven't seen the Palantir Denethor uses.
-
yes I agree it does look like Aragorn is in The Royal Chamber in Gondor...
but where is Gandalf ??? I cant work that out... :-\

hmm... not sure where this pic is taken :-\
Oh my god....it's quite scary how much this picture reminds me of a scene from Men In Black.
You know the bit where the evil bug-alien lands, and the conversation goes something like this:
Alien: Give me your gun
Farmer: Over my dead body
Alien: Your proposal is acceptable
well.....then the alien kills the farmer and nicks his body. Well....when the alien is kinda getting used to the skin and turning his head right the way round and stuff.....this picture reminds me of it....
.....just thought that i'd share that with you
-
hey you're right!!! me too!!

If what they say about the extended versions being released in cinema before DVD i think it might be cool, it would make you watch this new film in it's entirety and not as we all would do,just look at index and skip to new scenes,be cool not knowing exactly where the new scenes are
-
I have watched the whole new EE version of each film before I've skipped anything ;D

No way, don't you think that would spoil the film? I would just watch it from the beginning and relish every second. ;D
-
Shouldn't it say 10th December in this thread's title now? :)
-
maybe ... probably ...
its on sale on the 10th in the UK, but the widely available date in the world is the 14th, when the rest of the world gets it :-\
-
The Mouth of Sauron was that weird airoplane guy in Mad Max 2 I just read! He's well cool!
-
Preordered! ;D
Getting it from Woolworths on Dec 10th, no minas tiriths or canny extras like that cos I'm too poor :(

Yes I had mine last Saturday !!!
And I'm not going to spoil anything but it's great!!!
Was there any doubt that it would be?
-
Hello,
I am descending down the stairs from my tree top home to say that I don't think that I've ever posted here because I just usually read but I had to reply. I finally received my SEE and watched it yesterday! Here is my opinion on two of the scenes mentioned:
1) the drinking game is reallllly funny. :D In fact, Gimili is funny
2) the mouth of Sauron looks nothing like the pictures posted here. It is the creepiest thing I have ever seen :o
In all, the SEE is very good. I think that on New Years Eve, I will have a LOTR fest and view all three extended versions. That should take at least 24 hours
-
 :-\ Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone here.
I'm going to view the extended ROTK for third time tonight. I wanted to see more of the house of healing, beautiful scenes. Denothor is incredible, I love these movies beyond measure. Appendices are really very moving, cried up into the wee hours.
LadyR

Happy Christmas to everyone.
I was getting the ROTK EE for christmas but got it early when it came out! Wont spoil anything but of course is brilliant!!
By the way has anyone watched the 'home of the horse lords' documentary, its really sweet :)
-
Well I got it as a xmas present . . . was very lucky as it was the last one in the shop. I sat down and watched the majority of it, ie all the new scenes and all the scenese I like and it's awesome. Really good, although it is easier to see why they left some of the scenes out, where as in previous SEE i felt they shouldn't have left any of them out.
Anyway, was I being stupid and managed to skip past this scene, but is the part that we've seen in the trailers, where Arwen and Elrond are talking on the bridge, and there's the line "You gave away your life's grace ....etc etc" Or did they just not put it in? I was looking forward to that bit.
Arwen
~x~
-
I too got it as yesterday. I watched the first disc and so far the whole thing hangs together so much better.
Lessa
-
I got it yesterday and just watched up until the end of the scene I was looking forward to, The Voice of Saruman. It was brilliant.
-
My brother and I just finished watching it...Wow. It was amazing. The end (even without extended stuff) made me cry again.
And the part with the Mouth of Sauron. Wow. He was nasty, and Aragorn took care of him just like he deserved. Awesome.
I don't think I can find any more good words to describe it. Awesome movie.
To add a bit of irrelevence, Merry and Pippin were just as hot as ever.
-
I haven't watched all the Appendices yet but I have looked at Cameras in ME and laughed out loud at the filming of Sam's wedding. Couldn't stop giggling at Viggo's mock crying/celebration when he caught the flowers... :D
