Title: Complete works of Shakespeare
Post by: Taurendil on September 19, 2007, 10:18:42 PM
Could anyone help me in choosing a good edition of Complete works of Shakespeare? I'm rather fond of his works. Now, since I don't live in the UK or other country which provides a wide choice of such literature (well, at least I didn't find many editions in my city) I should be very pleased to hear any recommendations on this matter. I know there are Oxford Editions, Collectors Library's edition, Collins's edition and Wordsworth's one (though no doubt there are more) but what I'd want to know is what the best edition in your point of view is. ???

It's going to be hefty, whichever one you go for.  Do you want notes as well, or just the texts?

I know it's going to be hefty, but it's more convenient for me to have an all-in-one edition. As fot the texts I'd prefer them with the notes.

The RSC version  (http://www.amazon.co.uk/RSC-Shakespeare-Complete-Works/dp/0230003508) has had some good reviews.

Thanks for the link and the search! I didn't notice that book when I last visited the amazon, probably because it's new. It seems it's the best edition there is :)

Gosh I couldn't begin to tell you the edition our family has is over a hundred years old boumd in faded red leather and the stuffing is coming out but it has pride of place on Mum's vast bookshelves. BTW it's mine when she kicks the bucket along with a gorgeous colbalt blue wedgewood cheesed dish :D

If you're in the UK go into the craft/book store called The Works.... i've seen an amazing hardbacked complete works and its got pictures.. gold leaf edges pages.. its beautiful! They have a works of Jane Austen... if not then here's the one i have and used when i was in Romeo and Juliet and Midsummer Nights dream...

http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/572182/William-Shakespeare/Product.html

Its amazing, it's got info on the plays, essays and all of his Sonnets.. id definately recommend this especially for the price!!
