Title: Would I need to buy rights?
Post by: ::Paper-Clip:: on July 30, 2007, 07:55:12 PM
Hi there folks!

I have a little question for anyone who knows about this type of thing.
Okay; I'm recording an album that will have a limited run of 50 CDs/MP3 copies, and on this CD I want to cover the Jefferson Airplane song WhiteRabbit
The problem is will I need to purchase rights for this song or just obtain permission or what? I have no idea in regards to these kind of things so I would really appreciate if someone could enlighten me!

Thanks in advance!

IIRC
If you want to cover a song then you need to speak to the record label of the original writer, or the writer themselves then normally you would agree for them to make some royalties out of it
