Title: Dr Who
Post by: Anne on April 01, 2007, 08:32:23 PM
Anyone else watch this last night?  I do like Tennet as the Doctor - he just fits the role so well.  You get the impression he's loving every minute of it.   Thought the new girl looked like a Billie Piper clone - only with a more interesting family.

I actually missed it last night 'cause my boyfriend took me out to dinner to celebrate our 7 months but we taped it and got to see it finally today! I loved it, Tennant is just pure class as the Doctor, perfectly cast and he's always a pleasure to watch! I love Martha too, Rose was excellent and I doubt anyone can replace her but Martha was much better than I expected her to be. Very good story for the first episode! Can't wait till next week!  :D

I liked it and I Tennant is perfect as the doctor. I know he is having a ball from interviews I;ve seen over the last week or so.

I do wish they would go to a different planet though, it's always Earth. :(

Something like 10 episodes out of the 13 are set on Earth I believe. 11 if you count new earth. Quite frankly it's rediculous. The TARDIS can travel through time and space and yet the Doctor chooses to spend all his time on a little backwater planet in the spiral arm of an insignificant galaxy? I don't buy it. I know the doctor likes humans but if he visited Earth say, 3 times a series that would be plenty. Like I said with the sheer size of the galaxy the fact he visits Earth 3 times a series would clearly show his fondness for it. And then he always has a human companion (Well he does now anyway) so wherever he goes we have the human perspective. Gah the new doctor who episodes frustrate me so much. Thank goodness Russell T Davies is only writing 3 or so episodes this series although that's too much. I could rant on but I'd only bore you.

Basically... :bd: to Russell T Davies.

I found that last episode really disappointing and pointless.

They had better be intending to bring the master back (with that whole ring thing) or I will personally kick Russell T. Davis' arse -_-

I thought it was good.

We all sat up at the same time and said "What!" when Captain Jack dropped his little bomb though   New world record for syncronised exclamations there.  Resolved a couple of questions and set up a whole lot more  :D

I've heard a lot of bad reviews about the last episode, but I thought it was a good ending. Not what I expected, but good nonetheless. Looking forward to season four.

Yeah Anne, me and my boyfriend were both like  :o when Jack said he was the Face of Boe, teehee! Would have been nice to see The Master regenerate and see more in the next series from John Simm but what can you do?
I read on the BBC that Katherine Tate is the new companion, and Freema is returning halfway through series 4.. ??? The Christmas special looks good, Kylie Minogue is supposed to be in it.

wow well dr who this season has deinitely redeemed it itself!! :D
starting off from that crying angels episode it got better and better!!
and the master will definitely return, though perhaps not in john simm's body :(
my friend had an awesome theory about that, apparently the master regenerated into his wife, who then shot the body, and that was the master in the form of his wife who picked up the ring at the end... which means he will be able to return... (or something like that, i'll need to get him to explain it again :P)

i was so shocked too that jack was the face of boe!!! though my brother is so dim... he was like huh? whats the significance of that?  tt
but my question is, why didnt the face of boe reveal himself as captain Jack when they'd met?? perhaps he was embaressed cos he wasn't handsome anymore :P

and yeah catherine tate is the new assisstant.... *evils*
and martha is due to appear in 3 episodes of Torchwood, as well as making an appearance in dr who

Yeah I reckon the Master is still alive..I watched it again with my bf this evening..the ring...dun dun dun! Argh I actually can't wait for the new series..except for Donna..I think that's her name.  I hope she's toned down a bit.. lol.

I think Freema was much classier than Billie.  They're not in the same league.  (Did anyone else stick their fingers down their throats at her poor attempt at playing Fanny in Mansfield Park?)   Martha is feisty and more than a match for the Doctor.  All hail DT!!!!

I'm really looking forward to the Christmas special....at least we'll know there's something worth watching on Christmas Day!

I have to agree with you about Freema and Billie. I too preferred Freema, she was very feisty but in a gentile way rather than up front and in your face.

Roll on Christmas Day!  Now there's something I never thought I'd hear myself say before December ::)

It will be interesting to see Freema in Torchwood when the next series starts.  I've heard she pitches up half way through the series.

I sometimes think that RTD didn't expect Freema to be so good and that was why they planned for Catherine Tate to reprise her role of Donna....  However, looks like the next series might be put on hold because DT is playing Hamlet for the RSC.  Now I would love to see that!

Hamlet with a sonic screwdriver eh?

*goes off to Google hawks and handsaws to see if they have anything to do with Dr Who*

And totally agree with you about Billie Piper in Mansfield Park - you can take the girl out of the estuary but you can never take the estuary out of the girl.

Completely off topic, so please excuse me.  I think, Anne, that no one does costume drama better than the BEEB.  Although I'm not too sure I like the liberties they took with Jane Eyre last year....

I'm going doolally - could've sworn there was a whole thread about Jane Eyre on here somewhere but can I find it?  Anyway, quick summary was liked him, liked her, didn't like the fact that they'd cut out half the good lines, was most upset not to see Tobias cross dressing.

I think the next one they have lined up to play the doctor is Stephen Tompkinson.

It's that massive forehead of his, I thought they were morphing the doctor into tompkinson, I just hope it's not van der beek.  That would be horrible.

I don't think we have seent he last of David. I think that second out of phase will be very important
