I found his site (http://www.henj.nl/) recently and there are some wonderful pictures on it - particularly like the Black Foe's Residence. Looks like he exhibits too, although his current exhibition is in Holland.
-
hmmmmmm........... can't decide if I like them or not :-\
-
I like the pencil drawings and the horses just look fabulous. The watercolours are not quite there yet IMO
-
I like the pencil drawings!

I like the way he portrays elves, especially in the drawings!
HA .... did you look at the costumes? *cough* they are pretty amusing! :P
-
mmmmmmmmm yes I looked. very strange! :D
-
the elves arent tall enough.. but what got to me the most is that most of them had the same anime face :(
I hate anime faces :( such a shame, since otherwise, he;s a great artist :( :-\
(plus you shoot a drawn bow from your chin, not your nose...)
-
Yes, I know what you mean. When I returned to look the Japanese influence is definately coherent. Shame that cos the details are great!
Is he drawing that bow from the nose? Looks like the ear to me! lol

I'm impressed with the pencil and ink drawings (particular the patterns and the architectural renderings), I think they have a real spirit about them (especially this one (http://www.henj.nl/BW/images/charge2.jpg)). I agree with E.G. though, I don't like the faces of many of the characters, and I think the colour on the pictures actually spoils them and "cartoons" them to a certain extent.

That is my fabourite one as well Mith

Yes, I have to agree with you there, the colour definately spoils them and turns them into cartoons.
I like his architectural drawings too.... this one of Laketown from the Hobbit for example.
(http://homepage.ntlworld.com/beleriel/Laketown.jpg) especially when they are NOT inspired by the films.

So detailed you can just imagine yourself living there.
-
yes! that is amazing!
-
I thought some of them were quite lovely.. Here are a couple that I particularly liked..

I thought this one was incredible.. Not "cartooned" at all..

I really liked the detail on this one.. Especially the celtic like knotting on their weapons, helmets, and shields..
-
There is so much work and detail in those! They are very good :)
-
Hmmmm, I do like that rendition of the dwarves or is it dwarfs? eek a source of eternal debate! anyway I digress.................
Those dwarves are very like I imagined them when I first read the books.... all those centuries ago LOL
Still think the colour makes the pics look cartoony though.... bet that Smaug would be better without the colour... if you see what I mean.
-
I can see what you mean about some of the pics and the color, but I don't think so about the one of Smaug.. I actually really like that one..
-
I really liked the one of Smaug. What amazing detail. I like the colours too. :)
-
HA! Aeli agrees.. :D I actually think Smaug looks like one mean S.O.B. in that pic.. 8)
But I will say, looking at his body, I am having a bit of trouble with it.. :8o It doesn't look like he has much of a torso.. It looks like it goes straight from his neck to his ... tails? ??? What part of his body are the brown leather-like rolly things? :^

i think the elf's movement is not very coordinated.pay attention to the way he stands and draws the bow.But th pic of Smaug is quite wonderful.
