Aubrey stood at the helm, solenmy watching the waters ahead, hands behind his back. He let out a sigh, and walked down the steps to his cabin, a hand rubbing his throbbing forehead. It had been almost two weeks since land-fall, and tempers were running high.
He sat at his desk and pulled out the report from the Quater-master. Water was running low and, according to the Carpenter, as were other needed supplies..
"Man Overboard!" came the call from on deck.

Aubrey left his desk and appeared on deck quickly, settling his hat on his head, and shrugging into his jacket. He walked to the side of the ship and looked over. "Good Lord" he murmured, looking at the wreckage of the ship. He swallowed, and turned to the men "Mr Larson, Launch the long boats. Search for any survivors" He instructed. "I will join you. Mr. Allen and Mr Mowett will take the other."
-
Lyra groaned and called out at the ship, trying to get someones attention, anyones attention. She didn't care who.
-
Charles nods and sets about his task. Some of the other boys jump in and help him heave the boats over the side. He climbs in and waits for Aubrey.

Kalina pulls herself up on the wreckage. She clings to a board and closes her eyes.

-
Aubrey climbed down and settled himself at the head of the long boat. He took out his telescope and glanced at the water ahead of him. It was littered with wreckage and unmoving bodies, but no sign of survivors.
-
Charles steers the boat through the wreckage. He comes right up beside someone clinging to a board. "Captain! This one is alive!" He helps to pull her up into the boat.
-
Lyra shivered clinging onto the form that pulled her onto the boat. "There is another..." she whispered, bairly loud enough to hear. "There..." she whispered, and coughed.
-
"Where?" He looked out at the wreckage looking for someone else. None were moving. Except....As he watched the limp form slipped off of the board. He dived into the water and pulled her up to the surface. He grabbed hold of the side of the longboat.
-
Aubrey lent over the side of the longboat, pulling the girl into his arms, allowing Charles to climb in himself. He glanced at the girl, rubbing her arms to warm her as he shrugged off his coat, wrapping it around her shoulders. "Back to the Surprise" He ordered, trying to warm the woman.
-
Lyra sneezed. "Thank you..." she whispered, closing her tired eyes, wrapping her arms around herself. She shivered and looked around slowly.
-
She fell over into Aubrey's arms unconcsious and barely breathing. Charles shivers and resumes his post. He brings the boat up alongside the Surprise. He grabs a rope and ties it to the boat. He grabs another to hold the boat steady.
-
Aubrey held the girl close then stood to hand her to the Doctor waiting, who wrapped a blanket around her and whisked her off to the Infirmary. Aubrey leant down, extending his hand to the second girl in the Long boat.
-
Lyra looked up and slowly extended her hand up and took it greatfully, pulling hersef to her feet. "Thank you," she whispered, bairly audioble.
-
Charles shivers and pulls himself up on deck. He stands, rubbing his arms, waiting for further instuctions.

-
Aubrey grabbed the blankets ready at hand, wrapping one around the girls shoulders, and the other around Charles. "Good Job Lieutenant" He said. "You are relieved of duty this evening, and an extra portion of rum." He clapped him on the shoulder.
"Come with me Lady," He said looking at the other survivor, leading her to the infirmary.
-
Lyra pulled the blanket around her shoulders and nodded following what seemed to be the captain.
-
Charles pulled the blanket tight around his shoulders and went below to get dry clothes. He changed as quickly as he could. He left the blanket on his hammock and went to the Infirmary to check on the girl.
-
Aubrey settled Lyra down in a chair. "Welcome on board the H.M.S Surprise. I am Captain Jack Aubrey, and your name is?"
-
"Lyra...Lyra Balqua," she said softly and looked at the floor as it was one of the most interseting thing. She wrapped the blanket over her shoulders tightly.
-
"Sir I'm sorry to interupt but how is the other girl? Is she all right?"
-
The Captain smiled at Charles and nodded "She has come around but she is sleeping." He said, before turning to the other girl. Taking a seat opposite he observed her. "You were a maid on the ship?" He asked.
-
Lyra nodded, her gaze never rising from the floor. "Yes sir, I was an assistant to the cook," she said, slowly looking up at the captain, terified.
-
"Have you family to notify?" He asked politely. He would send word to England of the whaler's destruction, when he had a few moments.
