Early one morning in Signal, Wyoming, Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist meet while lining up for employment with local rancher Joe Aguirre. The world which Ennis and Jack have been born into is at once changing rapidly and yet scarcely evolving. Both young men seem certain of their set places in the heartland – obtaining steady work, marrying and raising a family – and yet hunger for something beyond what they can articulate. When Aguirre dispatches them to work as sheepherders up on the majestic Brokeback Mountain, they gravitate towards camaraderie and then a deeper intimacy...

Jack Twist sighed and climbed out of his car. He looked up at a largue building. Hoping desperatly they would have work for him there.. He frowned slightly and glanced over his shoulder as he heard a car coming up the drive..
-
Ennis drove slowly up to the building frowning slightly in thought. He hoped they would have a job because he would have to consider moving if they didn't and he really didn't want to move. He found a parking spot and got out nodding with a smile at a man who was standing there before making his way towards the door.
-
Jack smiled at the new-comer and nodded in return. He checked himself in his van's wing mirror and smiled ajusting his hat slightly before heading after the other man.
...Before Ennis could knock on the door it opened and a large bearded man stepped out. He smiled at the two young men "If you both lookin for work you better get in here pronto" He said as he turned on his heel and went to sit beside his desk. Leaving the door ajar for Ennis and Jack. He beckoned them inside
-
Ennis frowned slightly before making his way through the door and went to stand infront of the man taking his hat off. "Sir, " He said nodding.
-
Jack frowned as he was about to introduce himself to the other young man before the ranch-owner had intterupted. He stepped inside and stood beside Ennis. He took his own hat off and smiled.
Joe Aguirre had been given the ranch after his father, and his father after his father. He was a man in his early fifties. He scratched his beard and smiled at them "Hmmm..." He rummaged through some papers and smiled "Well all I have to offer you both is sheeperding up on BrokeBack Mountain..all through the summer you'll be up there makin sure my sheep aint killed by wolf nor bear.." He looked from Jack to Ennis and smiled "I think you boys...can handle that" He said
-
Ennis looked over at Jack for a moment considering and turned back to the man nodding. "Yes sir." He said thinking of how bad he needed the job.
-
Jack grinned and nodded "That would be fine sir.." He said in agreement with Ennis. The guy looked alright, and hard-working. He turned back to Joe Aguirre. "When do you want us to start sir?" He asked
Joe nodded happily "You can both start now.." He said with a smirk "You'll find everythin you will need in the barn opposite this buildin, already packed up and two horses tacked ready to go" He smirked "I dont care for your names...I dont care how much expeirience you got. I need men up there right now. Lambin season and all." He nodded as he ushered Ennis and Jack out of the office and closed the door behind him
Jack smiled to himself triumphantly and turned to look at Ennis, He held out his hand "Jack Twist" He announced.
-
"Ennis" He said shaking Jack's hand and smiling. Jack seemed to be a strong guy and by the look in his eye he would be a dedicated worker to. Good, it was nice to know he wouldn't be the only one actually working.
(Got this quote from the movie somewhere online....:P
Jack Twist: Jack Twist.
Ennis Del Mar: Ennis.
Jack Twist: Your folks just stop at Ennis?

-
(Heheh well that the intro sorted lol :P But aye aye me loves some of the quotes from that film!
Me guessing you will be online tonight. Well if ya wasnt to be you would of IM'ed me I guess)
Jack smiled and shook Ennis' hand. He grinned at the name. "Well I reckon if were gunna be workin' together...we should start drinkin' together" He smirked and looked over his shoulder "Hows about we go for a drink before we head up for the mountain.." He suggested
-
Ennis frowns thinking for a moment before shaking his head. "No, thanks for the offer but I can't take chances. I can't afford to lose this job" He said smiling and making his way towards the barn.
-
Jack watched Ennis and laughed. He followed the other man and grinned "Guess you right..we better get up that mountain as soon as possible..I guess.." He sighed and looked at the items they were to take with them
-
Ennis smiles and gather's one of the set's of things for himself packing up and mounting the horse getting a feel for handling the reins and the horses temperment before smiling at Jack. "Ready?"
-
Jack had packed up his own things and saddled up his horse. He mounted and grinned "Yeah.." He answered before ureing his horse forewards out of the stable
-
Ennis nods urging his horse forward following Jack and looking up at the mountain. "Ever spent time up on the mountain before?" He asked curious.
-
Jack laughed and shook his head "No, Aint been round these parts before" He told him as he rode onwards "Im not from round these parts anyways.." He continued, Jack rode onwards in silence. It seemed to take forever to get to where they were suppose to and that was made obvious by the dying embers of an hour old fire. The men who had been taking care of the sheep hadd obviously finished their shift. Jack dismounted and walked over to the fire. He poked it with a stick trying to re-kindle it. He glanced over at Ennis "Where d'you think we should put up the tent?" He asked
-
Ennis dismounted looking around and thinking for a moment before seeing a spot where the other tent must have been. "There," he said moving around and looking at everything to get an idea of the area.
-
Jack smirked and followed him "Yeah....looks like a good area to me" He noted as he began to unpack his backpack. He smiled as he cleared away any twiggs which may cause discomfort at night..
-
Ennis helped him clear twig's and rocks before going to his pack and getting out the cloth for the tent. "Here, Help me set this up..." He said moving over to start setting up the tent.
-
Jack grinned once they had managed to set up the tent. He smirked at Ennis "Well...now at least I know you can say you can put a tent up" He laughed. He moved to sit himself down with his back against the stump of a tree. He lit a cigarette and smiled.
-
Ennis nodded and finished checking to make sure everything was secure before going back to his pack to check if there was anything he forgot. "How long are we up here for? Did he say?"
-
Jack smirked "Ohhh eight weeks or so if were lucky" He grinned and moved to make himself more comfortable, "Last year...I heard the other guys who worked up here lost nearly half the sheep.." He shook his head "City boys no doubt" He laughed
-
Ennis turned to look at him with his eyebrow raised in question as he moves to a left over log to sit. "Half? Why is it city folk think what country folk do is so easy?" He asked shaking his head with a small smile.
-
Jack laughed and shook his head "Dunno" He said thoughtfully. He glanced over at Ennis and smiled "You ever been to a rodeo?" He asked him curiously,
-
Ennis shook his head shifting and sitting on the ground leaning against the log instead. "Nope..."
-
Jack grinned "Shame..you missed seeing me there..." He threw aside his stump and put his hat over his eyes "It's fun...dangerous but fun...expensive too.." He added "I need all the money from this job to pay for my entrance.." He said. "The prizes are huge though.."
-
Ennis looked at him thoughtfully for a moment before shaking his head. "What kind of prizes do you get for risking your life?" He asked partially sarcastic and honestly curious.
-
"Money of course" He smirked shaking his head. He rose to his feet ajusting his hat "A pooh! load of money...for risking your life..Enough to see a guy right for a whole year..." He smiled "Although..I never won...I dont fall off easily...just there's better people there" He said. He looked over at his surroundings and sighed "Well..I better get up there keep an eye on the sheep...and you can cook me my supper" He smirked as he mounted his horse
-
Ennis nodded agreeing that maybe a bit of money was worth riskin everythin if it was enough money to last a bit. His head jearked up to look at Jack when he was told he could cook him his supper. "What don't you have manner's where you come from?" He asked refering to the lack of please or even a question of would you...He didn't answer well to demands.
-
Jack glanced down at Ennis "Oh...Didn't I tell you" He smiled slightly and dismounted spreading his hands in defense "We take it in turns. You stay here and keep the camp livable today and I go up to watch the sheep. Tonight I come back we eat food you go up...I'll cook your breakfast tomorrow" He sighed hoping the other man would understand. Although he found Ennis' comment funny for some reason he held back a laugh at the sight of Ennis' face. The man was far too serious "You didn't think we both went up there leaving the camp empty did you?" He asked folding his arms
-
Ennis shook his head sighing and looking away. "No I didn't think that's how it went, but I would have liked to know the plan a little earlier than right now. Oh and ya may reconsider the tone you use, demanding isn't going to get you very far." He said standing and making his way towards his pack to see what there was for food.
-
Jack watched Ennis walk away and laughed shaking his head "Sorry..." He said as he re-mounted his horse "Im a Texan...cheeky...rude...demanding...whatever you hear about us is probably true" he urged his horse forwards towards Ennis and he kicked him lightly on the shoulder "....violent..." He added to his little list.
-
Ennis turned quickly grabbing Jack's anckle and jearking him almost as if to make him fall from the horse. "I don't take well to violence, If you want a fight we'll fight but don't mess with me." He said his expression serious. "I don't get into fight's cause I enjoy them, but I'll knock you from that horse if you kick me again." He said before letting go and once again bending down to get into his pack. "Well either that or spit in your food." He said with a small smirk trying to lighten up.
-
Jack had grabbed hold of the saddle thinking Ennis was about to pull him off "Now that's just disgusting" He said in mock horror. he smirked wanting to know how far he could push the man. He straightened himself in the saddle and made as to ride off but turning around again and urging the horse faster. He rode passed Ennis pulling off his hat. He smirked and stopped his horse..
-
Ennis stood quickly reaching and missing his hat as Jack stole it. He glared at the other man. "Give that back or I'll knock you off that horse!" He said feeling anger seep into him. That was his hat and no one messed with the hat!
-
(LOL THE HAT!!!)
Jack dismounted. He walked over to Ennis and smiled as he put the hat behind his back "Hmmm.." He said aloud thinking for a moment "To return the hat..or not to return the hat.." He said slowly. He looked at Ennis and grinned before dashing passed him...
-
Ennis reaches out scraping his fingers along Jack's arm, but missing his hat and takes off after the man determined to get it back. "Jack! Give me my hat!" He said getting closer ready to tackle him if necessairy.
-
Jack whistled innocently and shook his head "I have a rather large hat collection and I would really like to keep this one.." He said. He stepped back away from Ennis "Your not getting it back..it's mine now..."
-
Ennis shakes his head stepping forward into Jack's personal space and smirking. "I don't think so, that's my hat and you can't keep it!" He said and reached around Jack holding one of his arms as he reached for the hat so Jack couldn't take off again.
-
Jack released the hat and stepped away. He frowned slightly and shook his head "Fine...I can steal it when your asleep then.." He muttered. He re-mounted his horse and sighed "See you later.." He whispered as he rode away from the camp. He sighed as he headed upwards, A long day of watching sheep lay ahead of him..
..The day dragged on for Jack. He paced bac kand forth kicking at stones as they got in his way. Finally as it began t oget dark he mounted his horse and headed back towards the camp. He sighed and dismounted yawning and stretching. He looked at Ennis "You got a real exiting night ahead of you..." He said darkly "Baaah...here and a Baaaah there and more baaaing..." He shook his head "It aint right he makes us do this you know...really aint right...not fair...he gave us the most boring job..."
-
Ennis looked up from the stew he was stirring and chuckled shaking his head. "Boring work that pay's is better than no work and no money." He said standing and going over to unpack the rest of the things from his horse that he wouldn't need. "Stew's what I made...Enjoy." He said mounting and turning towards where the sheep were.
-
Jack looked at Ennis "Why dont you stay for supper?" He called "I mean sheep aint going nowhere...and you need to eat it is cold up there I am telling you" He shouted
-
Ennis turned around and shook his head smirking a little. "Oh I ate already...I'm fine." He said before turning around once again and heading up to watch over the sheep.
-
Jack ate his meal and washed the things. He sighed and headed towards the tent. He climbed inside and lay down. He was soon asleep. He slept for many hours. Waking up mid-morning. He gasped and sat up realizing he had over slept and Ennis would need breakfast sometime soon. He scrambled out of the tent and towards the fire. It had been raining and it would be hard to get it going again he cursed softly to himself..
-
Ennis sighed rubbing his eyes tiredly as he watched the sun rise. He turned checking the sheep again before making his way down towards camp and seeing Jack trying to light the fire. "If your thinking to make food only make some for yourself." He said dismounting and yawning. "I'm getting some sleep..." He said moving slowly towards the tent.
-
Jack frowned as he watched Ennis walk towards the tent "No your having some brekfast even if I have to force feed you" He said. He finally got the fire going and piled it up slowly. Soon enough having a decent sized fire "You'll sleep better on a full stomach..I promise.." He looked at Ennis waiting for him to move to sit beside him..
-
Ennis stops and considers it for a moment before shaking his head. "No, I think I'll sleep just fine..." He said moving once again towards the tent wanting nothing more than to sleep.
-
Jack frowned at the other man's stubborn behaviour. But there was nothing he could do. He made himself some bacon and eggs hoping the smell would be enough to coax the other man into getting up and having some. He had made sure there were enough for two.
-
Ennis sighed taking his boot's off and grabbing his blanket laying down on his back with his hat over his face. He could smell the food and just sighed deciding to wait since he wasn't terribly hungry as he drifted to sleep.
-
Jack ate his food and frowned as Ennis had not decided to join him. He sighed and cleared up his things. The sheep could wait. The fire was nice and warm by now and he was comfortable where he was. He lay himself down on the ground and zipped up his coat right up. He fell asleep..forgetting he was meant to go up to the sheep next..
-
Ennis woke a little later not one to sleep the day away. He sighed and lay there for a moment before getting up pulling on his boots and exiting the tent seeing Jack sitting there and freezing in place. Had he only just layed down? He thought before realizing it was later in the day for sure, the morning sun no longer shining but the afternoon one. "JACK!" He said moving forward and shaking the man's shoulder.
-
Jack awoke with a start and jamp to his feet. He nearly tripped over. He straighened his hat and looked at Ennis "What?!" He snapped hating being awoken so rudley "You got no right wakin a man up when he's havin 40 winks.." He said shaking his head. He fell silent and looked around "Oh god...Oh no..no no" He kicked at the ground
-
Ennis crosses his arms glaring at Jack. "I have every right when the person I'm waking is supposed to be doing his job not sleeping!!!"
-
Jack looked at Ennis and then down "Sorry.." He whispered. Knowing all to well his little nap would probably result in the loss of a few sheep. He put his hat on and yawned stretching once more "I'll take this shirt and the night one..." He said slowly hoping that to bargain with Ennis would mean the other man would not tell their boss of this little mistake.
-
Ennis sighed running a hand over his face and nodding. He sat down thinking for a moment before looking for the pot of stew he had made, there should be some left. "Where's the left over stew?"
-
Jack smiled as he walked over to the fireplace and handed Ennis the pot. He grinned "I did leave enough for you see I aint all greedy" He whispered. He sat himself down for a moment and rubbed sleep from his eyes "Im sure we lost a fair amount of sheep last night" He said regretfully
-
Ennis frowned feeling a little angered at his words. "I was with the sheep last night, and none got away from me. You were supposed to be there this morning till this afternoon and you weren't.." He said poking the fire and getting it to burn once again to warm the stew.
-
Jack bit hisl ip and nodded. Rephrasing the question "Alright well I hope none got killed this morning then.." He said slowly. He looked over at Ennis and sighed "Hate sheep" He whispered shaking his head
-
Ennis turned to Jack shaking his head with a sigh. "Then why take a job where you are surrounded by them?" he asked. He knew it was hard to find a job you liked so job's less likeable were available, but why take one with something you hated? When you knew you would be dealing with it day after day?
-
Jack smiled at him and shook his head "...because like I indicated..I need the cash from this job for my entrance fee for the rodeo" He said making it sound all so simple. He bit his lip "...besides nothing else around so had to take this one.." He continued. He glanced at Ennis and smirked
-
Ennis sighed nodding and checking to see if the stew was warming up and sitting on the log to wait. "Well then you'll get your money...just have to deal with what you don't like..."
-
Jack nodded with looked over at the stew Ennis was warming up. He smiled "How much you got in that pot?" He asked curious as to know if Ennis would offer him some. He was growning hungry
-
Ennis glanced at the pot then back to Jack shrugging slightly. "Enough for two if your hungry.." He said.
-
Jack smiled at the other man and nodded "Please..then I swear I will go up afterwards" He rubbed his hands together to get them warmed up. and moved to sit beside Ennis taking hold of two large metal bowls. He held them out to him and grinned.
-
Ennis took the bowls filling them with stew and handing one to Jack. "Well they've been alone up there for a bit...Couple more minutes can't hurt..." He said before beginning to eat his stew.
-
Jack nodded in agreement. Although he still felt guilty. He had fallen asleep when he was meant to be working. He ate the stew in silence. Occasionally glancing over at Ennis. Once he had finished he put the bowl aside and stood stretching. He yawned and rubbed his eyes. "Well...I'll see you later round late afternoon..then I will go back up there tonight.."
-
Ennis nodded finishing his own stew and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. "Alright, keep track of 'em..." He said standing and taking the bowls and pot to wash in the stream.
-
Jack smiled slightly as he mounted his horse. The horse jerked slightly but he was quick to settle it down. He sighed and urged the horse onwards out of the camp "Dont forget to pick up our week's supplies from the traders." He called over to Ennis
-
Ennis nodded watching him leave and sighing going and washing the things before coming back to camp.
-
Jack headed up high into the mountain where the sheep were al together, He looked at them and frowned. There were so many no point to try and count them all..
-
~*~ Time skippy ~*~
Ennis sighed having done alot of nothing that day as he starts making some dinner for when Jack came down.
-
Jack dismounted from his horse. He streched and yawned. He smiled at Ennis and sat himself down heavily "That was the most boring morning ever I tell you" He said. He glanced at the other man and pulled a bottle of rum from his pocket. He smirked and took a swig before offering the bottle to Ennis..
-
Ennis eyes the bottle for a moment before taking it and sniffing it before taking a drink. He handed it back nodding. "It has been boring...I'll go back up next instead of making you go twice in a row."
-
Jack shook his head "No...It aint fair I will go" He insisted as he took the bottle back from Ennis. He took a long swig from it and smiled "I insit my problem.."
-
Ennis frowned at him shaking his head slightly. "You've been up there all day without any rest...if you want to rest up for a bit you can come up later and I'll trade you.." He said knowing that even easy tasks were tiresome.
-
Jack looked at him and smiled "I'll come up with you...nothing to do around here.." He glanced around the camp and grinned at Ennis "Dunno why the boss insisted one stays up here it's pointless"
-
Ennis shrugged thinking that at least he would have someone to talk to to help pass the time. "Alright It'll be better to have someone to talk to..."
-
Jack grinned and walked over to his horse. He checked the tack was all on properly before mountain the horse. "Come on" He called as he urged the horse onwars. He looked over his shoulder at Ennis and smiled before ajusting his hat slightly
-
Ennis nodded standing and finishes the sandwiches before handing one to Jack and after checking the horse he mounts. "Let's go.." he say's taking a bite of his sandwich and heading up to watch the sheep.
-
Once they reached the area, Jack dismounted from his horse. He sat himself looking over at the sheep "Im not going to count them all" He laughed "I doubt the boss will miss one or two sheep"
