This suggestion expresses my personal point of view concerning the structure of the forum’s boards, especially LotR and the Hobbit board. I think that there is undue usage of sticky topics. More than one page is wasted on them. So when you start a new topic it appears on the second page, which is not convenient, and it may be left unnoticed. In order to appear on the first page the topic must be sticky, and it takes to be a mod or admin to do this. It is evident that all the members can’t be those.
The problem, as I see it, may be solved in such ways.
1. There should be restricted number of sticky topics possible in the board, thus simple topics will always be visible on the 1st page.
2. There could be some special section of sticky topics in the board, separated from other topics. The reason there are so many sticky topics in the Tolkien board is a pure logistical one
Sticky topics do not get removed when we do a clearout of old topics on the forum.
So it wont matter how old the topic is, it will stay there.
I felt that, because of the discussions we have in there, to safeguard the reference material we have gained, this is the safest policy. We have lost many good discussions in the past, and for a Lord of the Rings site.. thats a real shame.
"the special section" you write of, is a feature of Invision forum boards. This forum is a SMF forum...
I will endeavour to search for new topics started and sticky them, and ask the other admin and mods to look out for them too :D

I agree, good interesting topics should remain on the board. But maybe not all of the topics are worthy to be posted as sticky? I mean maybe there should be some clearout of them, some sorting by quality.

There is still the option of merging topics isn't there EG? If they were just merged into one "READ THIS OR DIE" sort of topic, it'd keep everyone happy wouldn't it? Or two even :P
