Right Beleriel reminded me that it was ages since we asked this question.
I would like to live in the Shire which to most of you would come as no surprise. Basically I think the simple life away from all the stresses and trials of the world.

I'd have to go for The Shire aswell, and that's not just because I'm a Hobbit. It just seems so relaxing and care free, and all the meals to satisfy you. It's just in it's own part of Middle Earth mostly away from the bustle of the other parts such as in Minas Tirith for example.
It looks so peaceful, walking amongst the trees. :t: :t: :s: :t: :t:

Well, obviously, i have to say Rivendell. That first shot, in the films, of Rivendell, with all of the cascading waterfalls is just so stunningly dazzlingly gorgeous - as my dad would say - could could eat your dinner off it! It seems a place where there's time to relax, and time to be yourself, with no pretention etc. But you could never be bored there - if you want to read books, you can read books, if you want to learn lore, you can learn lore, if you want to meet new people, i dare say they have a few travellers there.
But also, i'd have to say ithilin (before or after the evilness obviously). It just seems like a generally nice good place - streams, rivers, trees etc. Although very little time was spent there in the books and films, I can imagine it being a calm place where you could while away the summer days in the woods etc.
And i have to say i kinda like the shire.... ;)
-
Well there is no contest for me. It would be The Shire every time, probably in Hobbiton with my little cafe and gift shop. ;)
-
Another Shire resident here. Although I would like to travel. I'd love to visit the White City, and Edoras and look round Moria (once they'd cleaned it up a bit). Rivendell and Lothlorien looked a bit draughty though - need to wrap up warm
-
Well I love the Shire obviously...but I love Rivendell because I love woodland...and then again, I love the Rohirrim because I love horses...I think I have duel personalities :-\
-
I would have to say the wilderness. As a Ranger I detest cities of all shapes and sizes and the horrors that lie within...namely the dreaded bath *shudders*. So I'll have to say the wilderness for me, just give me some basic survival gear and ill be happy :)
-
Well,I want to live in Lothlorien,because I am probably elf and I love the forests :) :t: :t: :t:
-
well...I'd like to live in Rivendell cuz I absolutely love elves, but I love the peace and sorta....well, I love nature and with all the waterfalls and bridges...it's just such a beautiful place.
I also like The Shire cuz it's all like peaceful but adventurous and you could have some great fun there hehe
-
I'd love to live in the Shire, I'd adore being surrounded by beautiful countryside, and there way of life seems fun and relaxing. And six meals a day! Who wouldn't want that?! :P
-
rivendell or lorien. I think they are just so much more, relaxing, than anywere else, but also more interesting. Plus, like you said, the pictures in the films are just amazing.
-
I'd live in Rivendell for sure. It's my kinda place, being an elf and all. I 'd have my holiday in Minas Tirith though, and maybe go for the odd weekend in the Shire :P
-
Id live in Rivendell too
The peace, the contact with nature, the placid way of life, calm and unstressed.
Id love to live there
-
Awww but EG.... wouldnt you miss all us Hobbits if you lived there eh? :P
Hobbiton is the best place to live ;) if not Buckland.
-
I'd actually love to live in Lothlorien because it is BEAUTIFUL there and amazing. Plus the trees are really tall and pretty. :)
-
yes I agree B anywhere there is a good pub in the shire would do though.
Lessa
-
Lothlorien...do i really have to explain why!!?? ::) :D
-
errr yes! :P
After all you must have a legitimate reason to want to live there. ;)
-
...well Haldir lives there.
and its pretty...but NOT ONLY because haldir lives there :D
-
I would love to live in Edoras because it's such a beautiful place and has great history. (And I've been there. :P)
-
I would like to live in Gondor, because my sister lives there with Faramir.
-
I would like to live in Gondor, because my sister lives there with Faramir.
Well, she's got that right ::) Hehe, I've got her well trained ;)
-
I would like to live in Gondor, because my sister lives there with Faramir.
So, if you lived there close to your sister, who would you shack up with then? ::)

As a matter of fact if I ever were given a chance of choosing where to live in Middle Earth I would live anywhere, except perhaps the land of Mordor and the lands to the south of it. In my opinion living in Middle Earth as such is much more interesting and vivid than in place where I live.
However, every corner and realm in Middle Earth has its advantages. When I re-watch the Fellowship of the Ring and Bilbo describes life in the Shire I often think of living in place akin to it. The woods, the fields, little rivers, quiet life, in other words, away from the troubles of living in big cities in our world.
Then living in the woods, just like the elves in Doriath, Mirkwood and Lórien. I like the forests and the trees and beasts, you know.
In fair valley of Imladris I would also like to live. I am much influenced by the views in the films, I suppose. As already mentioned, the falling waters, birds, songs, nature and the inhabitants of it of course.
Moria with ‘roaring fires, malt beer, ripe meet of the bone’ seems fabulous to live in.
Isengard is very impressive too, before it was felled by Saruman. Imagine great views from a tall pinnacle of Orthanc in the ring of stone with the trees growing within it where you can walk in piece and thought.
-
I agree with you Taurendil, every part of middle earth has a beauty of its own (except mordor for me) but if I had to choose, and I suppose that by middle earth you mean the middle earth of the third age not counting beleriand, I'd choose Lothlorien. I love woods, the peace and silence in them, at first sight they look as if they where inhabbited but theres so much life in them... I've always loved treehouses, but lothlorien is a whole city above the floor on enormous and beautiful trees. The architecture, the light... living in perfect harmony with nature, its just great. :t:
-
my is a rethorical reply:
my favourite city is Edoras :s: :h: :h: ...if i have to choose other place i say Imladris or Moria, when her power was still great.
Theoden ^*
-
For me, it's actually The Hidden City of Gondolin. A place of magnificent strength and majesty. Also, a place of great beauty if it is anything like the painting by Ted Nasmith.
-
as many of you have already said i think i would be to hard to pick oneplace to stay in middle as they all seem so intriguing but since i have elven blood in me i would have to choose rivendell!
-
What makes ME so attractive to live in? Is it only inhabitants of Middle Earth, elves, dwarves and so on?
-
I also think it is because ME is unspoilt for the most part by industry.
Lessa
-
But if it's only(or for the most part) it's unspoilt nature that makes us want to live there, then I suppose its possible to re-create ME here and now? At least on some area and to some considerable degree. That's like something Sauron offered to the elves: not to yearn for the Aman, but to make paradise in ME, to make ME as good as Aman. Of course this led to making of the Rings of Power and well-known consequences, but that's because Sauron wanted them to happen.
-
That is true but more than anything it is all of it. The races, the unspoilt natural surroundings and the much simpler way of life. Everyone knows their place in the order of the world and the simple choice to be good or bad. There is no grey area.
Sometimes I think we have made life far too complicated
Lessa
-
The pictire you portraying reminds me of 16-17th centuries a little(at least that's how I imagine them). The problems are the progress and development that cause complexity and spoiling of nature. Of course there can be compromise between development and nature, but it would be a 'grey area' then.
Maybe sometime in the future it would be possible to organise realm akin to ME, but that seems so vague :'(
-
I would like to live in the shire. I like that cute holes, they look very confortable. The landscape is great, the people are friendly, and you don't have to worry about the rest of the world.... that's perfect for me! :P
-
In middle-earth?perhaps i prefer the aqualonde in Aman.
Well,if i have to choose one......MIRKWOOD
legolas'home,it is not bad except the king is a little mean :PP
-
If I have only one choice , I will choose Hobbiton as many people do . However, given more choices , I'd like to live in Shire ,with the bed and the garden of Rivendell ,mornings of Lothlorien , evening of Mirkwood . Every morning when I wake up , I feel the soft of the bed and the warm of sunshine . In the chair of Hobbiton , I finished my breakfast . Then I go to the forest and take a deep breath , collecting some flower for my room. and start my work of the day . Afternoon , I am able to sleep for a while under a tree in my garden . When the night falls , friends of mine was all around a bright fire ,telling stories , watching stars : and I am listening carefully .
A little greedy ?^_^ All in all , the world of the good peoples are beautiful and holy . The true beauty of these places lie in their people and their beautiful mind . I love all these places !
-
If I could live anywhere, I would live in either Ithilien, or Lake Town and the Iron hills, in the halls of Thorin Oakenshield.
-
All good choices :D
-
hmmm... reckon Lake Town would be too cut off... with the lake.. and then the threat of whatever is living in the caves over the lake or might be!
-
with me being a hobbit my natural choice would be the shire.at least my head says it should be. :D
but my heart says different. ;) ;) ;)
-
wow, this brings back memories...isn't this the topic that went completely wild last time?
Oh, and either the Shire, for a nice peaceful life, or (if something could be done about Arwen) anywhere near Aragron :)
-
Oi Kimi Aragorn is mine, he visits me regularly in the Shire :^ :D
-
I think I would have to choose Bree. After all, its where all roads cross, isn't it? From there, who could guess where my feet would take me? The Shire on one side, Rivendell on the other, to the south Moria, Gondor and Rohan and if I wished to go North then who knows what adventure I might find?
Mind you, I wouldn't mind living at Brandy Hall either!
-
I'd choose Rivendell or Lothlorien, because i'd be an elf through and through .. i'm always told i look like an elf which I used to find flattering until nearly ever new person i met kept saying it :( .. Rivendell because i love the way everything fits around the trees, and in this current global situation we're in living in a natural place like that seems right, plus i love the architecture. I also really love Lothlorien but having Galadriel around all the time being all mystical and freaky might get tiresome! I wouldn't mind living in any of the Elven communities really!
-
You know, I used to like the idea of Rivendell, but ever since I saw all those dead leaves drifting around the place in the films, it put me right off. I guess that would rule out Lothlorien, Mirkwood and Fangorn too. :t: :t: :t:
-
look you nutcase there are trees all over Middle-earth well except for Mordor!
Is that where you want to live :-\
-
*considers the plus sides*
Hot and hot running lava
Development potential
High security walls
*considers the downsides*
High workforce costs with a lot of training needed
Health and safety high risk area
Recent building collapses suggesting unstable foundations and/or landslips
Erm ... can I come back to you on that one?
-

-
Barad-dur for sure! :P
As Anne said:
Hot and hot running lava
Development potential
High security walls
And Cirith Ungol and Minas Morgul would be close by! What else could one wish for? :P
Joking aside, Rivendell would be perfect. But I would take a lot of holidays, and explore the whole of ME. Even though I don't like traveling in real life, GOndor, The Shire, Orthanc, Rohan, Bree, The Havens would all be on my traveling list.
DO you guys know of any travelling agent I could contact? :P
-
no but that could be a niche in the morket you could expliot
-
I totally admit that I have only glanced at the first page of replies and nothing more.. ::) :P
But I think I'd probably live in Gondor.. I'm a city-gal through and through.. Probably specifically Osgiliath.. Or maybe even Minas Tirith..
