I'm excited for it, too! I think it comes out August 23rd. Right before college! Yippeee!
-
OMG I can't wait for this book to come out! I loved Eragon, and I've read an excerpt or two from Eldest and I think I'm gonna love it!!

I'm not going to say much, i don't want to spoil it for anyone who is waiting to read..or who has not yet finished it..but gosh! i cant wait for book three!
ooh, and as a after thought.. apparently a film is scheduled for realease next june.. i wonder how that will be?

I made a list of all the things that are similiar between the LOTR's books and the trilogy by Paolini. It is astonishing! right down to the way elves never seem to sleep.
I will post it when i finish comparing and checking everything so i dont miss anything.
-
Yes i noticed how simular the book is to LOTR.. and it also reminds me of the Dragonriders of Pern.. in some ways.. I'd like to see your list Lady El. It'll be interesting to see the simularities..
-
it's really amazing how it's so similar to lots of stuff that already exist... Star Wars, LotR, etc. not very original but still interesting, i guess. i got "eldest" but still didnt force myself to read it... it's just so godd*mn thick!
-
I'm in the middle of reading Eragon, started on the weekend, and it is just sooo long! I've got up to the bit where the rebel leader girl is meeting the child that Eragon "blessed". I really need to find out what happens next!
-
Eldest is so good! I read it at college (for a while it was the only thing keeping my homesickness at bay :() Superb job by Christopher Paolini, and here's looking forward to the third one!
-
I have to say I skipped a few chapters, it was just sooo long! But I was so shocked by the revelation at the end- and it was a kick-ass battle scene. Eragon's growth from farm boy to Dragon Riuder is well charted and believable.
-
anyone know when the 3rd one is coming out?
-
I'm suprised that you're all suprised by the "revalation". I though it was fairly likely from book 1.
Similar to Tolkien's Elves? Elves that "marry" for as long as suits them? Tolkien's married for life/ever.
There are going to be similarities, fantasy Elves (are there any other kind?) tend to be similar - either Tolkien-esque, or "fairies".
It did feel somewhat "Pern dragon", but as I've not really read other dragon books, I don't know if that's "normal" for dragon stories the way long life is "normal" for Elves.
-
Okay...I have this issue with the book...
Everytime you turn the page, it's like..."Oop, there go the Elves, partying again."
That really got on my nerves.
-
I relay enjoyed the books although I did notace alto of similarities to LOTR...including the title of the first book...
Eragorn...Sound familiar anyone?
But considering he wrote the first book at 15, I have to give him a fair amount of credit, as it captivated me. And you could relay see how his righting developed through Eldest.
And I can't Waite for the film!
-
Yeah, the movie seems like it's gonna be pretty good. I'm looking forward to it...and I'll be home from college the day it comes out.
Sweet. 8)
-
whey well i've finally got round to reading them both!!! damn they were long, i think he could easily have halfed both of them but ah well!!
i thought they were brilliant, eldest was much better than eragon which i found sorta tedious... though i understand now that if he wrote that when he was 15... yeah it wasnt the best writing  lol but on the other hand.. yeah eldest had me captivated :) didnt guess the twist at the end, although i knew that murtagh and the twins wouldnt have died i didnt expect the rest!
the LOTR similarities were a bit annoying at times but i think in the end the author finally made it his own!
i'm too afraid to watch the film now... :( haha anyone know when the 3rd books gonna come out??
-
Ooh, I read these both at the end of last year... Eldest is definetly the better of the two....makes you wonder how good the final part will be in comparison!!
Yeah, they are similar to LOTR...and the name Eragon is very familiar.. I kept accidently calling him Aragorn...
But, there are enough differences between the books to keep me interested -I like the way Saphira doesn't actually speak, just telepathically links to people.
