What about everyone else??
-
I've read all of the Lord of the Rings books and I have also watched all the Extended Editions of the films (except ROTK because I only got it today :P)
:D
-
I would be a read LOTR and watched EE....
I must say though I watched the movies before reading the books *ducks from purists*
-
I've read the LotR, Silmarillion, Hobbit nd some other Tolkien's work nd watched all 3 movies but havnt seen the EEs because dont hav money to buy them :( >(! nd my parents dont like lotr at all so they dont want to finance it either.
-
I voted read LotR and watched EEs... that's not completely true as I also read The Hobbit and half of The Silmarillion but it is the best fitting answer :D
-
iv read the trilogy books and watched all the ee's!
read a bit of the hobbit, but will finish it before the movie of it comes out, hopefully it will!
-

I wouldn't have read the books if not for the movies. So that's okay. :D
I'm completely obessessed.... ;D
-
hmmm well once my EE ROTK arrives, I will have watched that as well!
Ive read LOTR and the Hobbit several times...
and Ive read the Silmarillion, but a long long time ago... and it was such hard work, I havent managed to get round to trying it again :-\
-
Well I would be a "watched extended edition and read ..." option except for the fact that I currently have nothing to watch my nice new pristine EE edition on
*mutters and stomps off to have another attempt to get PS2 to work* >(
-
aww thats frustrating...does your pc not except DVD's?
-
Well I started reading the triology but didnt get that far, I think I finished the fellowship of the ring. I have watched the EE's of The fellowship and two towers but I havent even seen ROTK yet :[! I am not a big fan really, but I find the concepts very interesting! :police:
-
Awwww Anne! *hugs* If ANYONE chooses "What's LOTR?", I'm going to murder them. ::) Anyways, I'm going to find SOME TIME to watch the ROTK EE... have watched the parts that I wanted to watch on ROTK EE and that's it. ANYWAYS, I've read the books and seen the movies and now I have all three EE versions. :P
-
I'm the type that has read a few number more books than just LOTR and I've seen all three EE's so I dunno which one I would be-_-'
-

Unfinished Tales 5 times
the little book about the Tales (don't know the name) 2 times

started to read when about 10, now i'm 16
-
I've read all three in the trilogy and watched (countless times) all three movies, including the extended editions of them all.. Actually, only watched EE RotK once so far, but it's still early.. ::)
I've also read the Hobbit several times.. I've got some of Tolkien's other works but haven't read them yet.. I've looked at the Silmarillion, but not been brave enough to attempt it yet.. :-\
Call me a non-purist Tolkien fan, but I also didn't begin reading the books until after the movies.. I watched FotR then read it.. Watched TT then read it.. Watched RotK then read it.. Though I did read the Hobbit before the movies came out..
I've also read some of Tolkien's Father Christmas letters.. I gave that book to my mother as a gift a year or so ago.. :)
-
I have got all lord of the rings un-extended & all extended and i got this to say about them
THEY ARE AMAZING
-
Well, I've read the LOTR many times. I've read the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales a few times, the Hobbit I've read a few times too. I've read most of his other smaller writings such as The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and Farmer Giles, etc. I own all these books too, plus the entire History of Middle Earth in the 12 Separate volumes, and the 13th Index one. I own both the Theatrical and Extended versions of all 3 movies, and the collectors items that came with the EE's, I have the official mugs of all the three movies, plus maps and Atlas's of middle earth. Oh, and I own a full size replica of Narsil.
-
I've seen all the theatrical and extended editions of the films and i'm currently reading the book, i've read The Hobbit aswell. I have a mug..it came free with a Harry Potter book.. ???
-

Same here.. :D The mugs I own are actually the four glass goblets that came out at Burger King when the Fellowship was out in theaters, they have lights in the base of them.. I also own one mug that has Frodo on it..
& I, too, own Narsil.. Bought it from The Noble Collection (http://www.noblecollection.com)..
-
ah see i'm really glad that i read the books first because then i did already have the characters looks and things imprinted in my mind. In that case i'm.....really, really glad i read fotr at least before seeing the bashki cartoon because otherwise ...ahahaha.... sam is so ugly, legolas is a fairy, boromir is a viking, aragorn wears a miniskirt....its some bad sh*t guys. :8o
-
Hi people back from a short christmas absence-well im still exploring here so I guess it doesnt matter.
Anyway as for this Ive read LOTR, the silmarillion, unfinished tales and own all the EEs but havent read some of the shorter works..ohh and of course Ive read the hobbit, a long time ago now. -
Oh well. Seems like a good a place to start as any.
Read LOTR many times (usually do about every 18 months)
Read the Hobbit countless times
Own and seen the EE (FOTR many times, TT equally as many, ROTK only a couple so far)
Silmarillion.....not yet. Just need to avail myself of a copy.
-
I've read LotR and seen the EE's.
(I've also read the Hobbit and Unfinished Tales, so I'm on my way of becoming a "read all of Tolkien's works and seen the EE's")
-
Read Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers and Return of the King.
And watched the films :P
-
I've read the lotr trilogy ten times ::)
silmarillion two times :P

lol, I've read almost all of Tolkien's works, and watched the EE's of all three movies - plus read a few books about Tolkien :)
-
whoopsie I ticked read and watched lotr because I didn't know what EE's meant ... but now I do and I've ticked the wrong one ... how dumb am i!!
My actual answer would have been read lotr and watched all EE's lotr... i prefer the extended's really ... because it gives you more film!! ;D
-
I have watched all the movies. They were just brilliant. And now I am reading the books. I find the books more interesting, but the movies are just a bit better. They let you see al most evrey thing that has been written in the book.
-
what is 'EE's
-
Extended Editions. :)

-
WOW
Glad to hear ytou are all going, and am pleased to see that everyone knows what Lotr is!!!!
YAY
-
It would be slightly worrying if someone on this board didn't know what LOTR was.
I voted something else as i've watched the EEs, read the LOTR trilogy, and the Hobbit, and have just started The Silmarillion (excuse the spelling if it's wrong)
-
Read all of Tolkeins workd and watched the EE's of LOTR < Thats me! On LoTR Related...I already know what I am to do with Phantom of the Opera! An OBSESSIVE PHANTOM PHAN!
-
Read and Watched LOTR
I technically watched the first one and it got me hooked so I read the books and watched the other two movies.
-
Read Lotr, Bilbo, half of Silmarillion (I'm working on it!) And watched all the EE films.
-
Wat are EEs? and I've read all the books and watched the movies.

-
I have watched the EE'S of lotr. I'm gonna start readin the books soon...
-
I belong to that largest group of having read and watched the EEs of LOTR. I really must get into reading some of the other Tolkien works though.
-
I haven't been a fan of moive before Lord of the Rings sequence . It was these three moives that made me a huge fan of they. I thougt these moives can touch my soul . 2 years past from Return of the King , however ,each time it appeared in my head , very impressive! It's a beautiful dream and never fade .
-
I have read lotr and watched the EE of all the movies. I also goes to a lot of lotr conventions.
-
I've read TLotR, the Silm, The Hobbit, some parts of the Unfinished Tales. I've watched all the Extended Editions countless times and still watch them ;)
-
I've read LOTR and watched EE's of LOTR.
Well I've kinda read LOTR but I'm 13 and finding the use of language kinda hard to read so I'm going to do what Christopher Lee does and read them once every year .... it MUST get easier to read them that way.
Plus I'm a bit mental about the EE's of LOTR my friend Izzy is a bit sick of me... but she likes it when I talk about the dwarves 'cos shes a big fan of them.... ::)
-
hi i'm new i read 6 times the Lord of The Rings and i also watch the movies 10 times lol :n:
-
I've seen the movies and they were very good. Except for Aragorn and his inability to remain on accent. He was all over the place. Especially whenever he was called upon to say "mordor".
I find the books to be somewhat close to toilet paper. All that singing and what on earth is Tom Bombadil about , if it wasn't an obvious thing that he's only included because Tolkien was too lazy to think of ways around certain situations then I don't know what is.
Haven't bothered much with the extended versions, since they apparently include some of the stuff like the singing which I thought was brilliant they cut out in the first place.
Now if it had Galadriel and Liv Tyler , whatever her char's name is in some sort of mud wrestling scene with aragorn/ then I'll be more interested. Two women and a guy is definitely the magic combo.
-
i think that tolkien was one of the best writers around.. he was able to convice the idea of a new world from the myths of this world.. creating a fantastic world of music and mtyh... which is not very easy... he is def in my top list and i have all the dvd extended versions of the movies.. really enjoyed them too!

actually, there are 2 extra songs.. both short :-\
hmmm... youre a casual fan then ;)
-
casual fan indeed. what can I say , I have loads of other interests and he's just NOT that great a writer. His style is older and plodding and he can't stand up to say , HP lovecraft for example.
-
well might be.. but this place seems to be fulkl of tolkien loving fans
-
That's fine , but if there is a lot of rosey eyed sheep mentality about tolkien that just doens't wash up when you actually read his writing. he had good ideas granted.. but his presentation of them was somewhat weak at points.
-
fortunately that is just your opinion :)
and the style of writing in his books, is hardly surprising, since they are now 50 years old. and his writing style is characteristic of that era :)
-
well i have read a lot of books and i can fiarly say that tolkien's style was actually very good... never boring and daring too... no author ever dared to get bits and pieces of scenes, and make the story still fit together! but alias thats yuor opinion!
-
As I said in my previous example, HP Lovecrafts is even older and it's still manages to grip. The world is built on opinion.
All I'm saying is that his books are not really good especially compared to modern writers.
It's like saying Windows 3.1 is the best software because it was the precurser to XP .

every one has the right for their opinion so i agree....
but pls try to refrain to say that his work is good for the toilet thats not nice ;)

-
can we just stick to the topic thanks :)
-
sure.. im sorry to have got a little bit out of topic...
well i have the extneded versions ofthe dvd s.. they are truly an investment... the uncut scenes are amazing and the off screen scenes are really breath taking... showing the hard work involved in such a work...
-
can we just stick to the topic thanks :)
I was massively on topic. I was discussing tolkien and LOTR.
-
I have seen all of the LOTR films at the movies, my parents have got the normal LOTR set on DVD and i have got the extended version of the whole trilogy on DVD
Sad to say i have yet not read any of the books :'(
Bhaal >:(
-
i really recommand that you read the books, there are awesome...
-
My dad has read the books, he has had his copy for ages, befor we moved in with him and he sayd that they are really good.
Its the whole trilogy in one book, so once i have finished the book i'm reading at the moment, it'll either be the LOTR or angels and demons :)
Bhaal >:(
-
angels and deamons is much awesome then the da vinci code i think... but the lotr trilolgy is sure the number one ;)
-
I'll take your advise and go for the trilogy ;)
Bhaal >:(
-
~blushes~ I guess I'm just a casual fan. I've seen the movies and read the books once but they were a bit long for me. I don't know @half@ the things you lords and ladies seem to know. I might be a little out of my league ~bites lip~
-
dont be silly ;)
i dont know some things but talking to the members/moderators have changed that, also joining in on coversations on different boards also helps and soon youll find that you know more than you thought. :)
Bhaal >:(
-
plus your thoughts can give us all a different perspective on something and so spark off a whole new thread of discussion. Please feel free to throw your two penneth into the mix

~cheers~
well I was kinda of wondering about .. can't believe I've forget her name!.. Arwen? Liv Tylor ~shakes head~ oh dear. Anyway I don't remember that character being very combaty in the books but in the first movie she's rather gung ho.
-
well actually Arwen in the first film took the place of another elf called Glorfindel. the reason stated for this departure formt he books was that they wanted to give Arwen a more prominent role throughout the series seeing as she would become the heroes wife. Also to have a character (Glorfindel) who only appeared briefly would confuse Non-Tolkien watchers.
-
~cocks head~ sounds silly to me. There were plenty of characters that were barely in it. Directors are weird !
-
I know. I also think they felt they had to have a female main character so as to attract female watchers who were not already Tokien fans.
-
I have seen the trilogy. I read The Hobbit and had all good intentions of then reading LOTR, however it is still sitting upon my bookshelf untouched...one of these days...
I quite enjoyed The Hobbit :)
-
honey just read a chaoter a day say in you lunch hour or on the bus/train to or from work :D
-
Good ideas Lessa.
I considered taking it to the gym with me to read while on the treadmill, but I will have to see how that goes, it may be a bit too bulky...
Only takes me 10 minutes to drive to work and only have half an hour for lunch, in which time I go home! Hmmm small towns... ::)
-
My experience with LOTR the book is that once you start it, you'll FIND time to read it!
-
My experience with LOTR the book is that once you start it, you'll FIND time to read it!
I can definitely agree with that! :D
I first saw the films at the movies, then bought the EEs and am now reading the books. I'm completely hooked on the books now.
-
welcome to the club :D
-
I know. I also think they felt they had to have a female main character so as to attract female watchers who were not already Tokien fans.
Hmmm....somehow I don't think it was the FEMALE fans they wanted to attract! LOL, after all there's plenty of eye candy for us ladies. ;)
welcome to the club :D
*Claps hands with glee* Yippee! There's a Club! Excellent! Do we get badges? :D
-
badges? :8o
Hey Anne, EG did either of you make badges?
-
Probably in the lost property box ::)
Possibly beefing up (hum - wrong term there but I can't think of a better one right now) Arwyn's character was meant to pander to feminists? Although Eowyn is strong enough by herself to satisfy those who want a PC count. It was one of the slight dampers of the book when I first read it that this great love interest sat in the background sewing flags for three books and only turned up when everything was sorted out. But then I'd get caught up in the story and write myself into it somewhere so that Aragorn never had to worry about her anymore any way :P
-
Hello! I completely clicked the wrong thing but hey!.. I have watched the Extended editions of the films, read the LOTR, the hobbit and the silmarillion. Read The Hobbit and Silmarillion before i saw the movies and read LOTR after them.
