A company called Monolithic Domes (http://www.gldc.ca/whatis.html) are now selling their dome homes all over the USA and Canada
(http://www.gldc.ca/images/homepage.jpg)
these concrete, steel structures are proving the ideal way for those in Earthquake and tornado zones to protect their homes. Their distinctive shape and design make them more stable during these events
Currently schools and churches are also using the design ...
Soooooo when are they coming to the UK!
check out some pics!

OK, now that purple one is just weird :-X and the middle one looks like it's about to say "Take me to your leader" but I do like the picture one. :P
-
I agree with you about all three pictures Anne. Also I think the purple one looks more like a childrens playhouse at the bottom of the garden.
Why does this look familiar (http://domedreams.bizland.com//sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/xan_10.jpg)? Perhaps it was used as a scifi film set? Well without the fountain anyway. :)

;D The purple play house one is funny, Its like something out of teletubies ::) ;D
On the other hand the top picture is good, i would live there. I wonder how much it would cost ;D
-
Way too much probably ::) ;D

Hobbit Holes!!!!!! :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
In the words of Pippin:
They come in Hobbit Holes? I'm having one!
-
Awwww, they are lovely!
If I go to live in America I am so having one! :P
Although I still can't get my head around them replicating Hobbit Holes as houses, ??? I mean I love them and everything but don't you think that they should stay in the film, or otherwise be on sale all over the world instead of just in America?
-
But everything's sold to America first, then dispenses all over the world, so they'll get here, eventually.
-
God they are really ugly!
I wouldn't want to live in one of those!
-
yeah but check out too what they look like inside.... its that that sells it to me!

WOW! I love that sunken dining table how cool is that? Now all I need to see is a sunken jacuzzi just like that and its sold to me! :)
-
Yes the interiors are definitely better than outside.
Lessa
-
The inside looks far better than it does on the outside! I would like to live in one of those, just as long as no one else could see it ::)
-
AWWWWW!!! :(
Starting to wish I hadn't quit the paper round now....
-
*goes all practical*
Yeah, but you'd do your back in trying to serve food at that table. And it would be a real pain to hoover under too. And that kitchen worktop looks totally impractical. And what's with that big bricked up entrance. I'd keep imagine a tank about to come through it or something. :-\
Do like the mezzanine shot though. Could just imagine curling up in the sun and reading a book there.
-
Looks great! How much?
-
looks like teletubies houses. lol
-
I must have peculiar taste then, cos I think the purple one is really funky. I'd love to build that in the middle of the godawful mass-produced identical barratt home vandalised and graffiti covered housing estate where I live.
-
I don't like it :/ it's a stupid idea...
-
I don't like it :/ it's a stupid idea...
Well, you can think what you want about it but people on here like the idea of building a Hobbit Hole. ::)

Agreed.

Hahaha hilarious!!

LOL you trying to sound like Andy? :P
-
i'd rather have mine ACTUALLY under the ground, and, erm, for reasons of practicality, maybe a bit smaller then the one you had internal pic's of, 'cos that looked BIG! :o
but, have always loved the idea of slightly unconventional houses underground ;D
they lookin' good is :)
-
kinda like Peter Jackson has done then!
He's had the whole of Bagend saved... and then got Alan Lee to design the rooms that were missing (bedrooms and bathrooms)... transported the lot to his home farm, and had it set in a hill, for guests!!!
ooooh I wish I was one of his guests!
-
OMG! I've been going on about wanting a hobbit hole for ages. I might ask my parents to buy me one of them for my birthday. :P
-
That's so cool! I'd love to have one of those! That's awesome :P
-
Those have to some of the coolest things EVER!!!!!! 8)
The purple one is amazing, and the inside of em aint bad either, they prolly cost a bazillion dollars but I still want one.
Things just cant get any cooler than that!

oh really? Now that would be soooo cool. In fact, I reckon that would be one hell of a money making enterprise... to own a load of Hobbit holes for people to stay in. *goes off to design it*

-
That's it!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew I'd seen it before.

those hobbit holes look like some secret base from a sci-fi movie :D :P
-
Oh, man, I so want one! That would be flippin' awesome!
-
*steals one*
there! so much easier! ::) :P
-
oh!!!!!! they are so cute! i want to live in a green one
-
*click*
-
Oh oh oh I want one! I'd have to turf the roof and have a garden though, I'd just have to! I agree Sam, they do look big, I'll just have the two bedroom cottage please :-\
It would be awful trying to hang curtains on those curved walls though eh?
-
I've been to Sedona, AZ (though it's been a while) and I never saw any houses that looked like that.. Those are super cool though! 8)
-
*sob* This guy (http://money.cnn.com/video/pf/2011/11/28/pf_uh_hobbit_house.cnnmoney/) is living my dream
-
It's beautiful for sure. He doesn't live in it, though, am I right? It's to house his enviable collection. Mind you, think of the dusting...all those figurines and books to move...
-
Maybe he has a cleaner. Actually, although Bag End was a tad messy in the film, it wasn't dusty so Bilbo must have had a hobbit cleaner in. Either than or dust can't copy with round rooms.
-
Yes but Anne, that's just Bag End in the film. In the books Bilbo was very particular and house proud if you remember. Quite different.
-
Sometimes I'm amazed at how much you all know and remember and how little I can recall from the books.. :[ :(
