Title: Ted Nasmith
Post by: Dora Baggins on June 21, 2004, 06:04:36 PM
I love this guy's art. Especially hsi interpretation of the Grey Havens, but this might only be because that was how I thought of it. I haven't met many others who are fans though.

I love his landscapes, I love the color and the lines.  Alan Lee's colors are so muted and John Howe seems to really like the color blue, but Nasmith is not afraid of color and his pictures are so vibrant.   However, his faces can sometimes be so grim and harsh.  Some of his pictures of the hobbits make them look like such unpleasant little things.  I definately prefer his pictures that don't feature faces.

Well then, perhaps I should say "Hello (http://www.lotruk.com/forum/index.php?board=49;action=display;threadid=23885;start=msg853352#msg853352)!" :)

ahh yes, more nasmith fans......i absolutely love his work.  I'll agree about the faces though, especially hobbits, but all his horses/dragons/eagles are beautiful (although i dont much like the balrog).  The landscapes are just......breathtaking.  He really captures the way tolkien described the surroundings...somehow worked upon them so that they seem to not be from this world

heh.  Ted Nasmith's work is really stunning.  I especially love seeing his depictions of 'the hobbit'.

I love Ted Nasmith's work... and admire it...
His work has definitely inspired my art and his techniques are visible in my work too...

I had the once in a life time chance of working for him in December and seeing his new collection inspired by the Silm first hand...

They are soo beautiful they look so real...

I constantly amazed by his pieces and talent and he is one of my favourite Tolkien -inspired artists. His image of what some of Tolkienn's scenes would look like are mostly just like my own...

Wow, you worked for him! The closest I've got is e-mailing him....yup, his art on the Silmarillion is definitely the best in my opinion.

Wow lady elentari, you're extremely lucky, you must've learnt lots of things from him!

I think his artwork is impressive! Specially the landscapes and beasties, I'm not too keen on how he does human figures...

Hello everyone.

I used to be a member here but my old account expired probably because I didn't come in here for donkeys years. Anyway, I'm back, partly because I know Spikie who helped to talk me into coming back but also because the new site looked like it was doing quite well.

Anyway, back to the topic.

I also worked for Ted at his gallery in Toronto in December last year. It was the gathering of the fellowship and I had my artwork in the fan art competition and won best painting too which was great. I also got to meet a bunch on online friends and it was my first time abroad, ever, lol.

I actually made friends with Ted and we have remained friends since. I bought his calendar whilst over there and got him to sign it for me and when he came over to the UK in the spring, he visited me for a couple of days. We stay in touch via email on a regular basis too. This time last year, I never thought I'd be friends with Ted, lol.
I send him wips of my works and he gives comments and crits and he sends me wips of his work too when he remembers to photograph it that is, lol. He isn't in the habit because he never used to do it before.

We also send each other photos of things most people find mundane like cloud formations and stuff. All comes in handy for landscape work and we both appreciate skies and cloud formations and other such things as artists anyway.

I have already seen much of his new sil work and saw it in progress too, lol.

I'm not sure what the current thing is with attaching images here now. I know you used to have a host before because you couldn't upload straight from your comp. Is it still like that? I have a couple of photos of Ted and I that I could post thats all.

Ok, I went and checked about the piccies and sorted it so here they are.
The first one is of Ted and I when he came to visit and my sister and me took him for a walk with our dogs down our local fields. He enjoys walking and the countryside. We have quite a large nice view from our top fields. Forgive the bad fashion though, it kept raining, lol. My coat kept me dry but those two got soaked, lol. You can just see our Jess behind Ted's legs.
The second one is when I was in Toronto in Ted's gallery. I'd only just met him when I got somebody to take a photo of us, haha. I look really strange in that picture though, don't really like me in it.
I'll post some more later of Ted with my two dogs but I need to upload those to smartgroups first.

Yes, I remember you. Actually, I have a photo of four of us and you are in it. I'll go dig it out and post it.

I don't think I'll be at the next one though, that one was expensive enough, LOL. Some of us have to fly all the way over the big pond to get there, lol. I did enjoy it though and I'm glad I went.
