Scene 37 ~ Lothlórien

|
|
|
The
Fellowship run swiftly across a meadow into the woods. Once in there,
they walk quitely and carefully, looking around them
|
| GIMLI: |
(beckoning) Stay close young
hobbits. (holding Frodo's arm)
They say there's a great sorceress lives in these woods. An Elf-witch of
terrible power. All who look upon her fall under her spell...
|
| GALADRIEL VOICE-OVER: |
Frodo! (Frodo looks around him
quickly) Frodo!
|
| GIMLI: |
..and are never seen again
|
| GALADRIEL VOICE-OVER: |
Your coming to us (Frodo sees a vision
of Galadriel's bright blue eyes opening) is as the footsteps of doom.
You bring great evil here! (echos) Ringbearer!
|
| SAM: |
Mr Frodo ?
|
| GIMLI: |
Well! Here's one dwarf she won't ensnare so easily! I
have the eyes of a hawk, and ears of a fox!
|
Gimli is
brought up abruptly by two arrows appearing in front of his face
|
| GIMLI: |
Oh!
|
The
Fellowship are surrounded by drawn arrows on all sides by numerous elves.
Legolas has drawn his own arrow in response. Aragorn holds his hand up
in peace
|
| HALDIR: |
(stepping forward) The dwarf
breathes so loud, we could have shot him in the dark.
|
Gimli growls.
The Fellowship, now standing high up in the trees on a leaf of the Mallorn
branch, it is evening
|
| HALDIR: |
Mae govannen, Legolas Thranduilion. (Welcome Legolas, son
of Thranduil.)
|
| LEGOLAS: |
Govannas vîn gwennen le, Haldir o Lórien. (Our Fellowship
stands in your debt, Haldir of Lórien.)
|
| HALDIR: |
A, Aragorn in Dúnedain istannen le ammen. (Oh, Aragorn of
the Dúnedain, you are known to us.)
|
| ARAGORN: |
(bows) Haldir
|
| GIMLI: |
So much for the legendary courtesy of the Elves! Speak words
we can also understand!
|
| HALDIR: |
We have not had dealings with the dwarves, since the dark
days.
|
| GIMLI: |
And do you know what this Dwarf says
to that? Ishkhaqwi ai durugnul! (I spit upon your grave!)
|
| ARAGORN: |
(slapping his hand on Gimli's
shoulder) That! was not so courteous!
|
| HALDIR: |
(turning to look at Sam and Frodo)
You bring great evil with you (he pauses) You
can go no further!
|
They turn to
look at Frodo. Aragorn talks avidly to Haldir:
|
| ARAGORN: |
Boe ammen veriad lîn. Andelu i ven! (We need your
protection. The road is fell!)
|
Haldir
replies.
|
| ARAGORN: |
Merin le telim. (I wish that we may come with you.)
(Haldir replies quietly) Henio, aníron boe
ammen i dulu lîn! (Please, understand, we need your support!)
|
| Legolas turns
around and looks at Frodo, who glances at Sam. Sam looks away sadly,
Merry and Pippin look at Frodo and turn away, and Gimli turns to look at
Aragorn and bows his head. |
|
|
| HALDIR: |
Aragorn! (he speaks quietly to him)
|
| ARAGORN: |
(pleading) Andelu i ven.
(The road is very dangerous.)
|
Frodo again looks uncomfortable and
alone.
|
| BOROMIR: |
Gandalf's death was not in vain. Nor would he have you give
up hope You carry a heavy burden Frodo. Don't carry the weight of the
dead.
|
| HALDIR: |
(walking up to Frodo) You will
follow me.
